"Ethan? What are you doing with her?" Alex cried, his voice filled with confusion and terror. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Ethan, the love of his life, standing beside Sara, looking like a completely different person.
Ethan just stared at him, his eyes cold and empty. "I'm with the winning team, Alex," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. "You should have joined us."
Sara laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Alex's spine. "He's finally seen the light, Alex," she said. "He knows that we're meant to be together."
Alex shook his head, tears streaming down his face. "No, Ethan," he pleaded. "This isn't you. What has she done to you?"
Ethan didn't respond. He just stood there, silent and unmoving.
Sara stepped forward, her eyes gleaming with a sinister light. "It's time to say goodbye, Alex," she said. "Your story ends here."
Suddenly, sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder with each passing second. Sara's eyes widened with panic.
"We have to go," she said, grabbing Ethan's arm. "Now!"
Ethan hesitated for a moment, then turned and followed Sara, disappearing into the darkness. Alex watched them go, his heart shattering into a million pieces.
He was alone, again.
He didn't know how long he stood there, lost in his grief. Finally, he pulled himself together. He had to get out of here. He had to find help.
He stumbled through the woods, his mind racing. He didn't know who to trust, where to turn. The police were looking for him, Sara was trying to kill him, and Ethan… Ethan was gone.
Then, he had an idea. There was one person he could always count on, no matter what. His mom.
He knew she was angry, disappointed, hurt. But she loved him, he knew she did. And maybe, just maybe, she could help him.
He made his way to the nearest road and started walking, his legs heavy with exhaustion. He walked for miles, his body aching, his spirit broken.
Finally, he reached his house. It looked the same as always, warm and inviting. But he knew that everything had changed.
He hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and walked up to the front door. He rang the doorbell, his heart pounding.
The door opened, and his mom stood there, her eyes wide with shock. "Alex?" she said, her voice trembling. "Is that really you?"
He nodded, tears welling up in his eyes. "Mom," he said, his voice hoarse. "I need your help."
His mom didn't say anything. She just opened her arms and pulled him into a tight hug. He buried his face in her shoulder and sobbed, the tears flowing freely.
She led him inside and sat him down at the kitchen table. She made him a cup of tea and sat beside him, her hand stroking his hair.
"What happened, Alex?" she asked softly. "Where have you been?"
He told her everything. About Ethan, about Sara, about the car crash, about everything. His mom listened in silence, her eyes filled with pain.
When he was finished, she started to cry. "I don't understand, Alex," she said, her voice breaking. "I just don't understand."
"I know, Mom," he said. "I know it's hard."
"Why, Alex?" she asked. "Why did you have to choose this life? Why couldn't you just be normal?"
"I am normal, Mom," he said. "This is who I am. I can't change it."
"But Ethan…" she said, her voice trailing off. "He's not right for you, Alex. He's going to ruin your life."
"No, Mom," Alex said firmly. "He's not. He's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love him, and he loves me."
His mom shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I just want you to be happy, Alex," she said. "I just want what's best for you."
"I am happy, Mom," he said. "When I'm with Ethan, I'm happy."
His mom looked at him, her eyes filled with sadness. "I don't understand," she said again. "But I love you, Alex. I'll always love you."
He reached out and took her hand, squeezing it tight. "I love you too, Mom," he said. "More than anything."
They sat in silence for a while, just holding each other. Then, Alex stood up.
"I have to go, Mom," he said. "I have to find Ethan."
His mom looked at him, her eyes filled with fear. "Where are you going?" she asked. "It's not safe out there."
"I don't care, Mom," he said. "I have to find him. I can't let Sara win."
His mom nodded, tears streaming down her face. "Be careful, Alex," she said. "Please be careful."
He hugged her tight, then turned and walked out the door, into the darkness. He didn't know where he was going, but he knew he had to find Ethan. He had to save him.
As he walked down the street, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. He glanced around, but the street was empty.
Then, he saw it. A shadow moving in the darkness. He froze, his heart pounding.
A figure emerged from the shadows, walking slowly toward him. It was Ethan. But he looked different. His clothes were torn, his face was bruised, and his eyes were filled with a strange, unsettling light.
"Ethan?" Alex said, his voice trembling. "Is that really you?"
Ethan stopped in front of him, his eyes fixed on his face. "Hello, Alex," he said, his voice chillingly calm. "I have a proposition for you."
Alex stared at Ethan, his mind reeling. What was going on? What had happened to him? "What do you want, Ethan?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Ethan smiled, a cold, cruel smile that Alex had never seen before.
"Join me, Alex," he said. "Join me, and together, we can rule the world." He held out his hand, waiting for Alex to take it. In the distance, Alex could hear the faint sound of police sirens, growing closer with each passing second.
He looked at Ethan, his heart torn. Should he trust him? Should he join him? Or should he run?
