Chapter 37 Chaos at the Hospital!
Jennifer clung tighter to Gerald's arm as confusion and fear washed over her when the lift doors opened. In front of them was a large crowd of journalists from various media outlets, their camera flashes flashing.
Gerald took a deep breath and let it out. He didn't know why his presence at the hospital seemed to have been known to the media crew. Clearly, this information had been leaked, even though Gerald had informed the hospital beforehand to keep his presence a secret.
As a public figure with extraordinary wealth at a young age, Gerald knew this was normal for him, but not for Jennifer and their son Alex.
"Come closer to me, don't worry, I'll protect you! Lower your head and hide your face! Don't worry, everything will be fine!" Gerald said softly.
Jennifer looked at Gerald and could only nod and hide her face in Gerald's chest.
Gerald smiled and said to Alex, whom he was carrying high in one arm, "Alex, don't be afraid, Daddy will protect you! Lower your head, you trust Daddy, right?"
"I'm not afraid, Daddy, as long as Daddy is here!" Alex said firmly, looking at his father.
"Good boy!" Gerald smiled warmly at Alex. After Alex lowered his head, Gerald put on a stern face towards the reporters.
Seeing Gerald, the reporters approached him and asked several questions.
"Mr. William, is this your new girlfriend?" asked one of the reporters who managed to get Gerald's glare.
"Mr Williams, who are you carrying? Is it true that she is your secret child from an affair?" another journalist asked.
Gerald, who was about to walk away, saw the journalist's badge, which was hidden. But then Gerald walked back.
"Are they your family, Mr William?" another journalist asked.
Gerald ignored him and continued walking among the crowd of reporters.
"Miss, can you tell us who you really are? This is the first time we've seen Mr Williams openly with a woman! Are you Mr Williams' fiancée, whom he has been hiding all this time? Can you give us a little information?" a female reporter asked again.
Jennifer, who had lowered her head, was a little surprised. 'Gerald has a fiancée? Then why did he approach me? Is he playing with me?'
"Move aside, all of you! There is no fiancée or mistress!" Gerald looked annoyed.
"Then who are they, Mr Williams? Why do you seem to be protecting them so much?" the reporters asked again.
Gerald looked angry and was about to answer, but then John appeared, running, and behind him their bodyguards began to arrive, pushing the reporters towards the front door of the hospital.
"Excuse me! Move aside, everyone! Make way for us! Sir, this way!" John made a little space for Gerald to get out of the crowd.
Several reporters who recognised Gerald's right-hand man, who turned out to be none other than John, asked again.
"Mr Martin, can you give us a little information about who Mr Williams actually brought? Are they... could it be his wife and children? But isn't Mr Williams still single?" the reporters pressed again with questions.
John smiled warmly as the bodyguards made way for Gerald.
"I'm sorry I can't comment at this time, but it's definitely not what you're reporting. Please respect Mr Williams. We will issue an official statement in due course. Thank you!" John gave a diplomatic closing remark as he followed Gerald.
Gerald had almost reached the hospital exit when he heard a question that made him turn his head.
“One question, Mr Williams. Is it true that a few days ago you entered someone’s apartment without permission and that you and your men vandalised private property and forcibly took his girlfriend and her child? Is that what happened? What was your motive? Haven’t you had a fiancée all this time?” he asked again, his face covered by his hat.
Gerald was about to answer, but John shook his head, "Don't get provoked, sir!"
Gerald finally exhaled, holding back his emotions, and started walking again, but Jennifer held his hand.
Gerald looked at her, "Are you hurt?"
Jennifer shook her head, but then turned around.
"You're wrong! Gerald didn't force me! And I'm not anyone's girlfriend, especially not the man you're referring to! Gerald helped me, and we are his family! You're wrong to accuse Gerald! He's a very good man, you shouldn't treat him with such vicious accusations!" Jennifer said firmly, looking annoyed but answering calmly.
Gerald stood silently, watching Jennifer defend him without being asked.
"Come on! What are you waiting for? Let's get out of here! They make me sick!" Jennifer exclaimed, shaking Gerald out of his trance.
Gerald smiled, "Let's go!"
John waved his hand. It turned out that John had run away when the other men arrived to protect Gerald and his family.
"Over here, sir! Quickly!" John waved his hand, having parked his car not far from the hospital entrance.
Gerald turned to hold Jennifer's hand and looked at her. "Get ready, this will be a little tiring because you'll need to run, okay?"
Jennifer just nodded, and soon they were running hand in hand.
The car door opened automatically, and Gerald and Jennifer got in, and the door closed.
John was already beside the driver.
"John, drive fast!" Gerald shouted from inside.
"Yes, sir! Where to, Mr. Williams?" John asked again.
"To my private penthouse for now. We can't go to Beverly Hills because they'll definitely be there! So the only option is my penthouse, which they don't know about!" Gerald said again.
Jennifer was stunned.
"Beverly Hills? Penthouse? Where?" Jennifer asked nervously.
Gerald just smiled, "You'll find out later, but it's not as big as Beverly Hills, is that okay?" Gerald replied warmly.
"It's fine, but... aren't we going to the hospital? Ah, is the hospital close to your penthouse?" Jennifer asked, seeming to draw her own conclusions.
Gerald chose not to answer but instead glanced at Alex, who seemed to be getting sleepy. "Go to sleep! It's a bit of a long journey! Everything will be fine this time! Daddy will take care of you!"
"Ooommm! Thank you, Daddy!" Alex yawned as he closed his eyes.
Gerald smiled again as he stroked Alex's head, who seemed exhausted and was starting to fall asleep. Before going home, Alex had apparently been given medicine that made him fall asleep quickly. Added to that was his exhaustion from the earlier incident.
“Gerald! You haven't answered my question! Are we going to the hospital, not far from the Penthouse? Then where is it? I need to know, I'll find the hospital and contact the doctor there!” Jennifer pressed again with her question while taking out her mobile phone.
“We're not going to the hospital! We're going back to my house!” Gerald said again.
“WHAT??”
