Chapter 36 Jennifer's Anger Towards Gerald
Gerald walked down the hospital corridor after speaking with Doctor Moore, thinking about their conversation until he finally reached the door to his son Alex's hospital room.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed open the door and put on a smile.
"Are you ready? If so, we can leave now," he said, looking at Jennifer and Alex, who were also smiling.
"Yes. Shall we go?" Jennifer and Alex exclaimed almost simultaneously.
Quickly, Gerald suddenly picked up Alex and carried him. Both Alex and Jennifer were a little surprised, but then Jennifer's smile widened.
"Dad! What are you doing? Isn't this a little embarrassing? Come on... I'm 5 years old, Dad! If my friends find out or they see me... I'll be so embarrassed! Please put me down! I can walk by myself, Dad!" said Alex, her face slightly red as she looked at her father's face, which was very close to hers at that moment.
Jennifer could only smile.
"Why are you smiling? Is something wrong?" Gerald looked at Jennifer with a slightly confused expression.
Jennifer whispered to Gerald, "He's a little too old to be treated like that! Sometimes he feels like a grown man, so he doesn't want to be treated like a child. You'd better put him down! Let him walk by himself."
Gerald shook his head, "No way! Listen, young man! You're still weak and just recovered! I'm just thinking practically. What if you suddenly get tired and collapse again? I don't want to take the same risk as yesterday! I almost didn't make it in time to save you! Do you hear me? So, if you don't like it, just hide your face, look down! Done, right? Besides, to me, you're still Daddy's little boy, so it's okay if I carry you! At least let me do what I've never done before! I just don't want to lose you again; it's been hard enough these past six years! So just be quiet and accept it, okay? Do you understand?"
Gerald glared sharply at Alex, his authoritarian nature and fatherly demeanour resurfacing.
Alex could only swallow hard and bow his head.
“Alright, Dad!” Alex could only hide his face against his father’s broad chest.
Meanwhile, Jennifer stared at Gerald with an odd expression.
‘What’s wrong with him? Why does he look… overly worried?’ What actually happened in Dr. Moore's office earlier?' Jennifer looked lost in thought and spoke to herself.
"Jenny? Hello...? Are you okay?" Gerald waved his hand in front of Jennifer's face.
"Ah, yes... Why? What did you ask?" Jennifer replied nervously, having just snapped out of her reverie.
Gerald took a deep breath, his patience wearing thin due to his wife and daughter's behaviour. 'I mustn't get emotional or angry. Doctor Moore said I have to be more patient and make Jenny feel safe, while reminding her of our past, as well as the therapy, of course! Even though I don't know how to get her to agree to the therapy, at least I have to try! That way, hopefully Jenny will slowly remember the events of the past!"
Gerald tried to smile gently at Jennifer, "I asked why you were silent? Do you want to stand there all day? So, shall we go now?"
"Ah, that... Hehehe... of course not! I wasn't daydreaming! I was just thinking about which hospital or doctor I should find to have Alex re-examined!" Jennifer replied, lying a little.
"Oh... you don't need to worry about that, I've already arranged it! Now let's go!" Gerald said quickly, pulling his wife's hand closer to him and holding it tightly.
Jennifer, who was not prepared, bumped into Gerald's left chest. Jennifer's face turned red with embarrassment, especially when Gerald wrapped his free arm around Jennifer's waist.
"Gerald! What are you doing? Let me go! Don't do this, Alex is still here and this is a public place... everyone will see us!" Jennifer tried to break free from Gerald's embrace.
Gerald chuckled a little, "Weren't you the one who fell into my chest first? I was just trying to catch you so you wouldn't fall! Besides, why should you feel embarrassed? We've already..."
Jennifer quickly covered Gerald's mouth and glared at him! "Don't you dare mention that incident again! Shut up, Gerald! Besides, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been pushed into you! Now let me go! I can walk by myself!"
Jennifer roughly pushed Gerald's large body and tried to free herself from his embrace. But it didn't work. Jennifer became angry again and glared at him, growling slightly, "Let go of me, Gerald!"
Jennifer continued to struggle while hitting Gerald's chest, but Gerald suddenly let her go.
Jennifer, who was using all her strength, was pushed backwards because she wasn't ready.
"Careful!" Gerald warned, but it was too late. Jennifer had already fallen, and her bottom hit the floor.
"Owww! That hurts!" Jennifer screamed.
Gerald held back his laughter at his wife's slightly stubborn but funny behaviour.
"I told you to be careful! Why are you so stubborn?" Gerald said again.
"And whose fault is that, huh?" Jennifer growled slightly in annoyance as she tried to clean her clothes.
"Mummy, what happened? Why are you sitting on the floor, Mummy? Don't sit there, the floor is too cold! You'll get sick!" Alex, who was in his father's arms, looked down at his mummy.
"Hehehe, it's okay, Mummy is just a little... Bored! So I'm sitting here."
Gerald giggled, and Alex looked at him in confusion. 'What's wrong with them?'
Jennifer looked back at Gerald angrily and glared at him.
"Come on, don't be angry, I was just joking. Here, let me help you up!" Gerald held out his hand.
"No need, I can do it myself!" Jennifer stood up and angrily left her son's room.
Jennifer looked back, "What are you waiting for? Let's go!"
"Ah, yes, let's go..." said Gerald again.
Gerald tried to hold Jennifer's hand again, but she pushed it away. Gerald could only sigh heavily, trying to be patient with his wife's behaviour.
Gerald ordered his men to follow them to the lift to go down.
"Let's take the lift! You'll be too tired if you have to use the stairs! As for you, please go down the stairs or take the next lift!" Gerald said to Jennifer and her bodyguards when they were in front of the lift.
Jennifer, still upset, only nodded slowly.
Throughout the journey to the ground floor, no one spoke.
Ding!
When the lift doors opened, Jennifer stared in shock and refle
xively grabbed Gerald's upper arm with a frightened expression.
"What... what's going on?!"
