Chapter 33 Am I Falling in Love with Gerald?
Gerald looked at Jennifer with obvious curiosity and strangeness. Dr Moore was one of the most renowned doctors in the country and was recognised for his success in treating various diseases.
It was not easy for Dr Moore to treat just one patient. Gerald had requested access to Dr. Moore to treat Alex because, in addition to being one of the largest shareholders in the hospital, Gerald had also funded Dr. Moore's research on his illness three years ago, when he recovered from his depression after his pack and troops were attacked by his enemies.
Gerald had to persevere at that time because he wanted to continue searching for his missing wife. Although Dr Moore's medicine could only reduce and slightly suppress his illness, it could not completely cure him, but that did not matter to Gerald as long as he could survive.
Gerald knew that his illness could only be cured with the help of the missing black stone and his union with his mate. And Jennifer possessed all of that, but unfortunately, Jennifer had lost her memory, so the process was further delayed.
Gerald couldn't understand why Jennifer wanted to replace Dr. Moore with someone else. It was clear that Doctor Moore was the best doctor in the country.
"So, what's the reason? Don't you know that Doctor Moore is the best doctor in this country? It's not easy to ask him to treat just one patient! He even charges by the hour! Do you know that?" Gerald explained to Jennifer.
Jennifer was surprised, "Is Doctor Moore really that good? But he..."
Jennifer signalled to Gerald to come closer. Being quite far away, Gerald had to bend down a little and move closer to Jennifer.
Slowly, Jennifer put her hand over her mouth and whispered.
"I don't care how good he is! But I think Dr. Moore is a little... hmm... crazy!" said Jennifer, shifting from side to side, worried that someone would come in and hear their conversation.
"What? Crazy? Where did you get that idea?" Gerald furrowed his brow even more, unable to comprehend Jennifer's thinking.
Jennifer stood up straight again and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Do you think he's not crazy? What doctor would conclude that my son is a werewolf and so are you? What else could it be but crazy? He's like he lives in a fantasy world, about werewolf fairy tales, or something! Strange, isn't it? There are no werewolves in this world! Don't you agree?" Jennifer looked at Gerald with a funny expression on her face.
Gerald just stared blankly and then two minutes later laughed, unable to resist Jennifer's thoughts.
"Hahaha... so that's your reason for replacing Doctor Moore with another doctor?" Gerald could only shake his head and laugh.
"Oh my God... where did that come from? Doesn't she realise she's a werewolf too? And we live alongside other humans? It turns out her amnesia is really... really... severe!'
Jennifer looked at Gerald angrily, "Why are you laughing? What's so funny?"
Gerald tried to hold back his laughter but failed. Gerald laughed even harder until he saw Jennifer's face turn red.
"Listen, Gerald! If you laugh at me one more time, then... I'll wake Alex up and take him far away!" Jennifer said, now starting to get angry.
Gerald immediately stopped laughing and stared sharply at Jennifer, who was threatening him. Gerald approached her slowly. His aura was frightening and made Jennifer back away from him. Until Jennifer could no longer back away because her body touched the wall!
"W-what are you going to do? Back off, Gerald! I'm not playing around!" Jennifer said, feeling cornered.
Gerald instead caressed Jennifer's hand from her shoulder to her wrist, his gaze soft and a little sad.
"Gerald? What's wrong with you?" Jennifer felt that Gerald was acting strangely at that moment.
"Please don't do that! I can't lose you again, Jenny! Please understand! As long as you don't leave my side again, I'll try to do everything you want! Including replacing Doctor Moore if that's what you want!" Gerald stared at her with an unusual expression. There was fear in his eyes.
Jennifer was shocked; she hadn't expected Gerald to say that. 'Gerald begged her? And what was that look? Like he was afraid of losing her? Really? Why? And one thing Jennifer was sure of was that Gerald would never do that to anyone! His arrogant nature would never allow him to bow down before anyone else!'
"You're right! I never beg or bow down before anyone! Except in front of you. Because..." Gerald seemed to be able to read Jennifer's mind. Gerald tried to hold back from saying the truth, only able to continue in his heart, 'I love you, my Luna! My wife! I can't lose you again! Six years is not a short time, and it's not easy for me! And since Jennifer was still suffering from amnesia, Gerald would have to give in a little, find another way, but he would still be able to discuss it with Doctor Moore over the phone! It was really exhausting! Seriously, when will you wake up and remember everything, Jenny!’
“Why?” Jennifer looked at Gerald strangely.
Gerald came back to his senses and tapped his wife’s forehead impatiently.
“Of course, because you’re the mother of my child! What were you thinking?” Gerald stepped back and turned away, sighing heavily without Jennifer noticing.
“Oh… because of that…” Jennifer was a little disappointed. ‘Hey! Why does my heart hurt? What answer was I expecting? Our relationship is only that! Nothing more! Besides, they had only just met! It was impossible that Gerald would say he loved her just because of their one-night stand yesterday, right? Ah, Jennifer, wake up! You're too naive!'
Gerald turned back to look at Jennifer after hearing the tone of her voice.
"Are you disappointed?"
"Disappointed? Ah! Of course not! Are you joking? Apart from being boss and employee, we only have a connection because you are Alex's biological father! Nothing more!" said Jennifer firmly, denying it even though her heart was uncertain.
Gerald felt a pain in his chest, but he held it back and said a little coldly, "I'm glad you realise that!"
Gerald turned to look at his son's bedroom window, gazing at the bright sky.
'Oh God... Moon Goddess, how long can I endure the reality that the person I love has forgotten our memories? Why does it hurt so much!!'
Meanwhile, Gerald was lost in his disappointment and thoughts. Jennifer was just as disappointed, but unfortunately, Gerald didn't see it.
‘I thought last night’s incident meant so much to you… Gerald! Turns out it didn't! I'm no more than your child's mother! Oh God... Jennifer, wake up! How could he possibly be interested in you! The difference between you two is so vast! He's handsome, wealthy, and a respected businessman in this city, and even in this country, while you? Just a lowly maid!
