Chapter 34 Understanding has to be an understatement

Chapter 34 Understanding has to be an understatement
Kai's POV

I expected today to be good especially after sleeping all night with Zara. But as always, things don't always go the way we want it to. I woke up quite pissed because my device kept going on and off.

Why was Dr. Voss looking for me?  I had to quickly slip out of my room to go and see her.

"Took you long enough to appear when I called." She said.

""Sorry ma'am." I responded.

"I don't suppose that you were sleeping." She said.

I wasn't going to let out what I was actually doing to her. Not even anyone else.

"I couldn't sleep." I lied swiftly.

"Stop with the bullshit!" She yelled angrily.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

"How is Zara? I've not heard any updates about her." She said.

"She's fine last I checked." I responded.

She turned her seat to face the glass wall opposite her table.i couldn't see her face neither did I have any idea about what was going on in her head.

Then the electricity zapped through me from the device. It itched badly whilst still shocking me. I didn't know how to respond to that. My legs buckled beneath and I fell to the ground.

"What did I tell you about lying to me Kai." Dr. Voss sneered.

My face constricted in pain. The electricity currents had somehow found a way to restrict my airflow for a while as my chest tightened, sweat beads began forming on the creases of my forehead.

"Now I'll ask again." She said.

"And I'll find out my answer the way I want to."

My mind blanked out. She was suddenly standing in front of me. Anyone who could enter her office would see me kneeling in front of her like an obedient puppet. I was no longer in control of my body.

All I could do was just stare like a loyal puppy.
She held my forehead like she would cradle an egg.

My wolf tried to fight her out of our minds but it was impossible. Dr. Voss had somehow grown powerful and it was getting hard to fight her off.

"Sex!" She exclaimed.

"You're sleeping with Zara Night?"

I didn't respond to that question.

"I brought you here to report to me and you go about sleeping with potential candidates."

I was mute. This angered her. She slapped me across the face, her ring piercing into my skin.

I laughed wickedly as I felt blood drip from my face. My body shook violently as it hated being maltreated.

"She's a sweet thing." I reduced Zara to nothing to avoid putting her on a hidden blacklist.

"Get out!" She ordered.

I nodded before leaving her sight. I returned to my room with my mind all over the place. I had to take a bath twice that night before I could return to bed. Zara stirred in her sleep a couple of times but I couldn't risk disturbing her sleep as she seemed so peaceful.

The following morning, I made a decision to push her away. I gave her the cold shoulders until she got pissed and left my room.

\~~~~~~~

"Rex is me from another dimension." I said to no one in particular.

Suddenly, things seemed to be adding up.

That's why he and Luna looked like Zara and I when we first saw them.

That's why they kept trying to push us to our full potential.
Why they were so interested in being of help to us.

Mira stood in a corner, scrutinizing as always. But this time, a sense of recognition was suddenly beginning to dawn on her.

"You remember the silver cities burning you kept seeing." Rex suddenly said.

"Yes..." Zara and I responded simultaneously.

"Those weren't dreams. Never have been." He responded.

"It was what actually happened and may even happen now if we don't stop it." Luna and Rex said together.

"How do we do that?" I finally said.

"First is by outsmarting Dr. Voss." Rex responded.

"Oh... Like that's so easy." Mira churned.

"I never said it was easy." Rex replied.

Mira scoffed disbelievingly.

"Can we all just take a chill pill. All this information are a lot." Zara whispered under her breath.

I was quick to catch it though. I cleared my throat as I ruffled my hair with my hand.

"It's just too much information to take in.' I said.

"Let's meet up later and actually have real conversations." I said.

"Enough with the jokes." I added, even though something kept telling me that this was no joke.

"You think this is a joke?" Luna questioned as she threw errant braids backwards.

"Well.... How can you prove all these things?' I asked, quite tired of the back and forth.

Before I knew it, Rex had me in a chokehold. His hand was on my heart which had started beating rapidly all of a sudden. I had a rush of memories fall into my head. It was too much.

Burning silver cities, Dr. Voss but not Dr. Voss, blood, silver, metallic blood.

My wolf got hold of my mind.

"Block him out!" my wolf said angrily.

I pushed him out immediately. Somehow my wolf knew that I was going to do that and sought to gain control.

"Push him out. You're bleeding!" It roared within me.

I was still being stubborn. I needed to see everything.

This would kill me one day. My wolf got the best of me and took over my senses.

Rex was pushed back a few meters away from me but was still able to hold his composure.

"Do you now believe me?' He asked getting quite pissed off.

I became mute. Those memories felt too real. It was like I was l was the one experiencing those things.

Fuck!

It was so real... My mind became fuzzy, I was blanking in and out of consciousness.

I couldn't feel anything again. I felt numb.

"Kaiiiiii...." I heard someone call before my head hit the ground.

Then the noise stopped.
