Chapter 33 Hot Temper

Chapter 33 Hot Temper
ZARA’S POV

Cold air licked at my skin the moment the guards pushed me into the dungeon. The heavy door slammed shut behind me, sealing away any warmth I had left from the outside. Darkness pressed against me like a living thing. The only light came from a dim lantern hanging above, its glow barely reaching the corners of the room.

I wished I had let Mira try to bring me out of this situation now.

I sat, not because I wanted to but because my knees buckled the moment the chains locked around my wrists. The cuffs hummed with electricity, sending a sharp sting up my arms. It was a warning. The dungeons was no safe place for any wolves. It made them feral creatures.
I breathed in slowly.

Wolfsbane hit my nose.
Thick. Metallic. Poisonous.

Except it did nothing. Not even a pinch of discomfort. The irony made my lips twitch.

Why did Dr. Voss keep forgetting that wolfsbane didn't work on me.

The first zap tore through my body a moment later. My spine arched. My teeth slammed together. A sharp gasp escaped before I could swallow it.

Another zap.

Three full days of this torturous angles. Could I keep up till the final day?
And another.
The guards watched from the bars like children admiring their favorite toy.

“Look at her,” one of them snickered.
“She is not even flinching anymore.”
The other laughed.

“She must be used to punishment.
“Probably lets Kai toss her around in bed.”
I did not growl.
My wolves did.

It was one thing to insult me but apparently when it came to someone I really cared about, my wolves would react for me.

The sound vibrated through my bones, deep and ancient, so loud that the guards took a step back.

My heart thudded, not from pain but from something darker waking up inside me. Something that stretched. Something that lifted its head.

Another zap came, harder this time. My breath froze in my throat as electricity tore through every nerve.

My head fell forward. Sweat dripped down my jaw.

“You think Kai actually wants her for anything other than sex?” a prisoner mocked from another cell.

“She probably begged him like a little mutt.”
Where did they get that piece of information from. Surely, Kai had only told Dr. Voss and not spread me out to the whole academy. Shame crept into my heart.

Laughter echoed across the dungeon.
My fingers twitched. My vision blurred.
Another voice joined in.

“She is all body and no brain. Kai must be tired of her already.”

"A filthy Omega would always remain an Omega."

My wolves pressed closer to the surface.
A low rumbling started in my chest.
They insulted me. Fine.
They insulted Kai. My Kai.

A spark snapped inside me that had nothing to do with electricity.
I lifted my head slowly. The chains holding my wrists glowed as if sensing the danger pulsing through me.

The guard leaned closer to my cell.
“She is quiet now. Maybe the shocks fried her brain.”

I raised my eyes to his and smiled.

Not my smile.

My wolves’ smile.

They took my voice with a softness that frightened even me.

"Move aside Zara. Let us breathe."

The next zap came.

The chains shattered.

Metal snapped like thin branches. The guards screamed. I stood, the fragments of the cuffs falling to the floor with a dull clink.
“Call for backup!” someone yelled.

They tried. But they were too late.
The bars of my cell twisted with one pull of my hands. I stepped out, bare feet touching the stone floor with a soft sound. The prisoners who mocked me earlier scrambled back, their fear thick in the air.

“Oh gods.” One of them whispered.

"How did she do that?" Another asked.
I just gave a very wicked smile.
Another dared to spit.

“You are a freak.”

My wolves surged fully.

Everything went red.

Bones cracked, a transformation took place.

I moved without thinking. Without effort. Without mercy.

One prisoner’s body hit the wall. Another slammed against the floor, the crack of bone echoing down the hall. A guard rushed forward with his blade, trembling hands gripping the handle, but I snatched it from him before he could even swing.

The blade sliced through the air once. He fell.

The last laughing prisoner tried to crawl away. My fingers wrapped around his ankle and dragged him back. He screamed. I lifted him effortlessly and slammed him against the bars of an empty cell.

Silence swallowed the dungeon.

Warm blood spread across the floor.

I did not pant. I did not shake. I only straightened my spine.

A voice buzzed through the intercom.

“Zara Night, stand down immediately.”

Dr. Voss.

Her voice shook. She tried to hide it, but I heard it.

Fear.

“Release her,” she ordered sharply to the remaining guards.

“Now. Do not argue. Get her out before she kills the rest of you.”

Doors burst open immediately. The remaining guards rushed to unlock everything between me and freedom.

The moment the final door opened, my wolves stepped back willingly, sliding into the shadows of my mind like smoke retreating under a door. I returned back to my human form.

My knees almost buckled.

Almost.

I walked out of the dungeons with steady feet and a calm face, leaving blood and terror behind me.

The moment I reached my room, I froze.

They were all inside.

Kai stood by the wall, jaw clenched so tightly a muscle ticked near his ear. He looked like he wanted to rip the world apart. Mira lingered near the window, eyes wide, nerves all over her face. Rex sat calmly beside Luna who leaned against my bedpost as if she owned the room.

I walked past all of them. I headed straight for the bathroom, showered quickly, and changed into fresh clothes. I tied my hair into a loose bun. When I returned, I sat on my bed with a soft sigh.

As if nothing happened.
I was pissed with Kai. We would have to talk about that later but for now I needed to know why they were all in my room.

Luna shook her head slowly and stepped forward.

“It is time Zara.” Her voice was soft, almost pitying.

“You deserve the truth.”

Rex stood behind her, silent support.

Kai’s eyes snapped to Luna.

“Are you sure?”

Luna nodded.

She looked directly at me.
“We are not from this world.”

The room stilled.

“We are you and Kai,” Luna continued.

“From another dimension. Another timeline. Another version of this very life.”

My breath caught.

"I guess that's why you looked like me." I said, not really facing anyone.

“What we told you before were fragments,” Rex added.

“We are here because your power is waking up. And once it fully awakens…” He let the words hang.

I leaned forward slightly.

My wolves hummed beneath my skin.

“Stop me from what exactly?” I asked them, voice calm and dangerous.

“From destroying this world.” Luna whispered.

"Like I destroyed yours." I said.

I don't know where that response came from.

I smiled slowly.

A real smile this time.

“How do you plan on stopping me?”
