Chapter 69 I’m Sorry, Mother.
Lily’s pov.
“Lily!” I hear Raya yell, “slow down! How are you even running that fast!”
Ignoring her I keep my focus on the figure weaving their way through the crowds of people.
Feeling Sapphire push her strength and power into me I ran faster than possible, almost instantly catching up to them despite my pregnancy.
“Stop!” I yell as I grab the hooded figure by the shoulder, spinning them towards me.
I hear familiar laughter before they remove the hood revealing my mothers face.
I gasp and take a few steps back, trying to put space between us.
“What do you want?” I ask, not taking my eyes off of him. Because even if it looks like my mother, I know it isn’t. It’s my father trapped inside of her body.
“What do I want?” He says, giving me the chills from hearing my mothers voice sound so venomous, “I want a lot of things, daughter. Firstly, I want revenge. After I kill you and everyone you care about I will take over the BlackRainforest tribe… secondly… I want power. Do you think I like being in this weak body?” He scoffs, fueling my anger towards him, “I would much rather be in my powerful dragon shifter body, do you even know how much I miss my dragon? Third, I want to keep your first born for myself… to raise properly, to take over when I die.”
I growl loudly at him, not caring about my surroundings, “over my dead body!” I say through gritted teeth, feeling my powers slipping through my control.
“Lily!” I hear Raya gasp, running towards us quickly, positioning herself behind my father.
“There’s nowhere to go,” I say calmly, not taking my eyes off of him.
He smirks at me and looks back at Raya, “two pregnant girls… what could you possibly do to me?” He says cockily, “after I kill you I’ll pull those things from you and raise them as my own… Creed will be too weak to fight back, making it easier to take over his tribe.”
Laughing like a maniac I take that moment to step closer, “no matter what Creed would never let you kill him, his tribe means more to him than you’ll ever be able to comprehend,” I spit venomously.
“Are you sure about that?” He says with a smile, “because when his fated mate and children are ripped away from him he’ll be weaker than any other shifter. You underestimate the mate bond, child. Without you he’s only half of himself.”
I make eye contact with Raya as Danny rambles on, she takes slow, cautious steps towards him until she’s right behind him.
Slipping her claws out she puts one under his neck, “make one move and you’re dead,” she whispers darkly into his ear.
Danny’s face morphs into anger but he doesn’t say anything. Looking around I notice that we’re drawing attention towards us, “into the bathroom over there,” I say, pointing behind us.
We get him into the bathroom and lock the door behind us, “do you really think you could come here and threaten us?” I say angrily.
He chuckles darkly, liking the fact I’m getting so angry.
“I can’t let you leave here…” I whisper, a tear slipping from my eye, because even if this is my evil father, he still has the face of my mother.
Walking closer towards him I give Raya a knowing look and she grabs his hands, twisting them behind his back.
“The things you have put me through… put my mother through… makes me want to kill you slowly, torture you until your last breath so you really know what pain feels like. But you don’t deserve to live another day, you deserve to die, and that’s why I am going to kill you,” I say softly, bracing myself for what I’m about to do.
“You don’t have the guts!” He spits at me, “go on! Try-“ he begins to say, but is cut off by my hand entering his chest and squeezing his heart.
“I’m sorry, mother,” I sob, looking at the face of my mother, wishing she was really here, alive, “I have to do this… he left me no choice!”
Sobbing, I turn away from the haunting look in my mothers eyes, summoning my flames in my hands.
My flames lick at my skin, happy to be involved. I let them envelope around my mothers body, burning her into nothing but ashes.
Raya places her hand on my shoulder, knowing how hard this is for me, “you did the right thing,” she whispers softly isn’t my ear.
“I know,” I say quietly, walking towards the pile of ashes that used to be my mothers body.
Grabbing some in my hand I walk over to the sink and start pouring it down the drain, “farewell, the fallen shall be free,” I say, hoping the goddess takes her.
“Farewell, let the fallen be free,” Raya whispers behind me, the ashes glow lightly before it disappears along with the rest of the ashes on the ground.
A sad smile takes over my face as I realize something, “the goddess has her.”
“She does, and there’s no place I’d rather her be… her soul is at peace now, her body isn’t taken over anymore,” Raya says, squeezing my shoulder slightly.
“Yeah,” I mutter, more to myself than anything, because as happy as I am that my mother is free, I will never stop missing her.
All of a sudden banging on the door scares us out of our situation.
“What the hell are you two doing! I’ve got both your mates asking me where the hell you are!” I hear the warrior that was sent with us yelling, sounding genuinely worried.
“Are you scared that my big, bad beta is going to get you?” Raya teases as we open the door.
He rolls his eyes at her, “obviously! They will have my fucking head if something happens to you guys,” he says through clenched teeth.
“Whatever, let’s just go home. I’ve still got shopping to do,” I say, walking past him.
“Not that you asked but I placed all of your guys' bags into the cars, when I couldn’t find you guys I quickly did that so they didn’t get stolen,” he says, sounding annoyed.
“Thank you,” I say with a smile, “that was very thoughtful of you.”
As we make it outside Raya and I get back into Creed's SUV.
She starts the engine up and we pull away from the human town, making our way back into our tribe territory.
“Are you okay?” Raya asks, “I know that must’ve been one of the hardest things you’ve had to do.”
“Yeah,” I whisper, “it was.”
