Chapter 103 Moments Before Moments
Chapter 103 Moments Before Moments
Raya’s pov.
I open my eyes, feeling more exhausted than I did before I fell asleep.
“Where’s Creed!?” I ask instantly, scanning the room and only seeing Glenda and Alex.
“He went to check on Lily, although I thought he would’ve been back by now,” Glenda says, sounding slightly concerned.
“Someone go look for him,” I say while getting out of bed, “I can take over from here.”
“Okay, I’ll go find him,” Alex replied with a smile, placing Mazikeen down before leaving the room.
I sigh as I sit down in the rocking chair, feeling my head pounding.
“Are you doing okay?” Glenda asks me while putting Maddox down.
“Yeah,” I mutter, rubbing my head with my hands, “I have a never ending headache. Like someone is squeezing my head between their hands.”
“It’s from Ryan drinking your blood. He’s lucky, without you and the amount of blood he consumed he would’ve died,” she reveals, looking me in the eyes, “you should start to feel better soon. Ryan should wake within a few days depending on his dragon.”
“Okay… thank you for telling me,” I say before looking away, towards Ryan’s sleeping body.
His cut off arm glaring at me like it’s my fault it’s gone.
I gulp the lump in my throat down before changing the subject.
“How were the fledgies?” I ask, hoping she goes along with the subject change.
“They were all angels!” She gushes, “each and every one of them holds a special place in my heart. You girls did a wonderful job, I’m proud of you.”
My chest tightens at her motherly affection, something I didn’t usually get growing up.
Glenda smiles sadly at me before pulling me into a huge hug.
My tears fall onto her shoulder as I cry softly.
“Let it out,” she whispers softly, “it’s okay.”
I laugh slightly while choking on bitter sobs.
Letting the emotions I’ve been so desperate to hold in out.
I hold onto Lily's grandmother like she’s my own, finally feeling like I have a family member who genuinely cares about me.
“Thank you,” I sniffled, “I needed that.”
“I guess I just know what to say today,” she smiles, rubbing her hands up and down my arms a few times before sitting back, letting me collect myself.
I let out a shaky breath before standing up, walking towards my babies.
I look down at Wren’s tiny face, unable to keep the smile off of my face.
“Oh, sweet child of mine…” I whisper as I pick him up into my arms, “how lucky am I to have you.”
I sit back down in the rocking chair, going back and forth as I hold Wren close to me.
Quiet tears fall from my eyes from the joy I feel at being here at this moment.
I silently vow to myself never to overlook the little things, enjoying everything we go through.
They’ll only be so small once.
We’ll never be able to relive these moments.
“Would you like me to put Aspin on your chest as well?” Glenda speaks up, breaking me out of the haze I was in.
“Of course I do, bring him here,” I reply with a bigger smile, wanting nothing more than both of my boys together.
She places Aspin down onto me gently, grinning at the smile on my face.
“You’re glowing as a mom, Raya,” she says to me, watching me with almost a look of pride on her face.
I smile to myself.
Smiling so much today that my cheeks start to hurt.
The door opens, making a soft sound as it closes.
I turn my head in the direction, seeing a pissed off Creed coming towards us and Alex behind him.
“What made you so angry?” Glenda beats me to asking him.
“Virginia,” he groans, “she just doesn’t get it! I told her if she doesn’t leave the tribe willingly I’ll have to exile her, forcefully.”
I wince while Alex shakes her head.
Glenda the only one with a small smile on her face.
“And that’s why you’re the king. You do what’s right, Creed. I’m proud of you,” she says while placing a hand on his shoulder and squeezing it.
“Thanks, Glenda,” he smiles slightly back, placing his hand on top of hers.
“What even happened?” I ask, my curiosity getting the best of me.
“She was literally in my room, standing over Lily like a weirdo. She basically jumped me, saying ‘we can finally be together’ even when she knows I don’t want anything to do with her,” he answers angrily, his veins bulging on his arms.
”That’s messed up,” I mutter, feeling disgusted, “who even does that!”
“Somebody with mental illness,” he mutters, rolling his eyes as he walks towards us, “it doesn’t matter now. She’ll be gone by tomorrow, I won’t allow her to be anywhere near Lily or the fledglings.”
“Yeah, I don’t blame you,” I say, shaking my head at the thought.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Alex asks Creed with a questionable look in her eyes.
“As good as I can be. I just want Lily to wake up, to be here with us,” he sighs, looking down at his babies, “I want her to be able to enjoy this.”
“She’ll wake up soon. I can feel it,” Glenda speaks up, always the light in the darkness.
“I hope you’re right… I need her,” he says quietly.
I look down at my sons again; so grateful for everyone who helped save us all, so I could be here in this moment with my family.
“I don’t think I had the chance to thank you yet, Creed,” I say while I turn my head towards him.
“Thank me for what?” He asks with a small chuckle.
“For everything,” I breathed out, “for saving me the day Lily's mother was missing, for letting me stay here, for winning the war and helping me be able to be here, in this moment.”
“Don’t mention it,” he replies, shrugging his shoulders, “any good king would save his people. And you have Lily to thank for winning the war. If it wasn’t for her we all would’ve been dead.”
