Chapter 104: She’s a Hero

Creed’s pov.

I kept the fact that Virginia said she was going to poison Lily to myself.

I don’t know why but I felt like I should.

I look over as I hear a grunting noise and see Lily struggling in her sleep.

I rush over to her, laying beside her in bed and holding her close.

Watching her body relax at my touch.

I sigh in relief, laying back as I stare at the ceiling.

“Wake up, Lily,” I whisper to no one other than myself.

As I’m staring at the ceiling, Maddox starts to make small whines.

I get out of bed, walking towards him.

I stare down at the four lives we created, smiling softly to myself.

Wishing so badly that Lily would wake up and be here, in this moment with us.

I pick Maddox up gently and bounce him up and down.

Singing softly to him.

“Sleepy baby, sleepy baby, close your eyes and sleep. Sleepy baby, sleepy baby, shhh, shh,” I whisper softly, watching his eyes close again.

I let out a sigh of relief, already feeling exhausted.

I place him back down slowly, careful not to wake him again.

I crawl back into bed beside Lily, closing my eyes and trying to get some sleep.

When I opened my eyes again I was jumping out of bed to the sounds of all four quads screaming.

‘Alex!’ I shout down our link, ‘get here as fast as you can! All of the quads woke up and I need your help!’

‘I’ll be there soon,’ she grumbled down the link, shutting it off.

I groan to myself as I get out of bed, walking towards the quads quickly.

I put my hands on them, trying to calm them down.

It does nothing to quiet their screams down, if anything, it makes it worse.

I swear under my breath before running towards the bottles, stirring their milk together before rushing back over to them.

I pick up Maddox first, helping him gulp down his bottle.

As soon as he’s finished I set him back down and pick up Juniper, placing her bottle into her mouth.

Mazikeen and Athena lay there screaming their heads off in hunger.

Alex finally comes into the room.

“Goddess, why are they screaming so loudly?” She asks while rubbing the sides of her head.

“They are hungry and I only have two hands!” I snap, tossing a bottle in her direction.

She stumbles to catch it, giving me a sheepish smile before picking Mazikeen up and feeding her.

Juniper finally finished hers, giving me the chance to place her down and pick up Athena.

She whimpers as she greedily drinks her bottle, her little eyes fluttering with tears.

“I’m so sorry, my little one. Dad only has two hands and there’s four of you…” I whisper as I watch her drink her milk.

“I didn’t realize how hard this would be for you, Creed. I never thought that Lily wouldn’t be here to help you,” Alex says as she lays Mazikeen down, changing her diaper.

“I never thought it would be this hard either,” I sigh, laying Athena down to change her too, “babies are a lot of work… I didn’t realize how much they ate and pooped.”

Alex laughs at me, as if this is funny to her.

I glare at her before grabbing Maddox to change.

“Can you just change Juniper's diaper and go get Glenda?” I ask while running a hand down my face, “I need to go check on Ryan.”

“Yes,” she says as her laughter dies down, “I’ll do that now.”

When we were done changing and getting all of the quads back to sleep Alex left in search of Glenda.

Within minutes the two of them come walking through a portal.

“Well, go on now, go check on Ryan,” Glenda ushered me away, walking straight towards the babies with a huge grin on her face.

I chuckle slightly while shaking my head, walking out the door towards Ryan’s room.

I knock a few times when I get there, waiting for his reply.

“Come in,”I hear him call out.

I push the door open and see Ryan laying on his bed with Wren while Raya’s walking around the room with Aspin.

I look towards Ryan and he has a small smile on his face.

“What’s up, Creed. I can tell something is bothering you,” Ryan says instantly, reading me like a book.

“To be honest with you, I’m exhausted,” I sigh, sitting down on the bed beside him, “I never realized how hard this would be, how often they eat, how often they need changed, how often they need to sleep!”

I ramble on, running my hands through my hair roughly.

“Hey,” Ryan says, making me look towards him, "nobody said this would be easy. And nobody thought Lily wouldn’t be here to help you… but you got this, you’re already doing so well. I’m proud of you, and I’ll always be here to help however I can.”

“Thanks, buddy,” I smile, “I’m glad you’re okay.  Had me scared for a bit there.”

We chuckle while shaking our heads.

“Trust me. I know, I was even scared myself…” he replies, looking towards Raya, “I don’t know what I would’ve done without her.”

I look towards Raya myself, smiling sadly as I think about Lily and all the ways she saved my life.

“We’re lucky to have them,” I whisper, looking at Wren sleeping soundly beside him.

“We sure are,” he replies with a mixture of love and lust in his eyes.

“I want your honest opinion Ryan… do you think Lily will wake up?” I ask, wanting nothing more than the truth from him.

He looks at me sadly, causing me to turn my head away as a pain shoots through my heart.

“I really hope she does, Creed,” Ryan says while placing his hand on my back, “she saved me. She saved all of us. She’s a hero.”

“I know. I love that woman so much, I just want her to wake up,” I whisper more to myself than Ryan.
