Chapter 38 Family
The Hitman's P.O.V.
Just as I'm about to pull the trigger, the door opens behind me, and I quickly slide the gun into my waistband. I turn to see a nurse staring at me in confusion.
"I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with you. Are you one of the specialists coming to see Melinda?" He asks. I look at the woman in the bed and realize I was about to kill the wrong person. Fuck.
"I think I walked into the wrong room," I say as I push past him. I know this is the room Anushka was in. Where did she go? I walk over to the nurse's station.
"Hello, I'm Doctor Silverman. Can you tell me what room Anushka Wilkins is in, please?" I try to control the anger in my voice. If that woman or her husband had woken up and seen me with the gun, it would have ruined everything. The woman behind the desk looks at her computer.
"I'm sorry, they must not have told you. She left AMA about an hour ago." I walk away before I do something I'll regret, like kill everyone on this fucking floor. How could she slip through my fingers? There is no way she should have been able to leave so quickly. I should have stayed to watch the hospital, but I didn't, so now she's gotten away, and I have no idea where she is. What the fuck am I going to do now?

Anushka's P.O.V.
When Jordan said we were leaving the hospital immediately, I thought he was crazy. I knew it was way too soon, but once again, I forgot that Jordan knows how to move mountains. After a few calls, he had a hospital bed, oxygen, and wheelchair at home set up and ready for me. He also had Courtney, her kids, and Bobby meet us there. The penthouse has plenty of room for all of us.
Jordan spoke with Dr. Martinez, and he agreed to come over every day to check on me for a small price, of course. The last thing he did was make arrangements with a physical therapist to come to our home. Dr. Martinez placed orders for my IV fluids and meds so Courtney would have everything she needed. They had to remove my IV when I left the hospital, but Courtney started a new one once I was settled. It actually all went pretty smoothly, and now I'm at home.
"Do you need anything for pain?" Courtney asks. The hospital bed is set up in our bedroom. I smile and shake my head.
"No, they gave me some before I left. Thank you for agreeing to be my private nurse. We didn't trust anyone else." I tell her. She checks my bandages and smiles.
"It's the least I can do. Besides, I think Dakota will be good for Tyler and Sarah. They're not around other kids much, and they're both extremely shy." She sits in the chair next to my bed. Jordan and Bobby are checking out the work Bill has done in Dakota's room, so Courtney and I have a few minutes to ourselves.
"Is there something going on with you and Bobby?" I smile when her face turns red. I had seen the way they looked at each other when we arrived. They were already here when we came. Dakota immediately took Tyler and Sarah under her wing as though she were their mama hen.
"Maybe. I guess you could say we're trying to figure things out. I've been alone since my husband died, and I didn't expect to fall for someone who I had just met. Is it weird to let things move so fast?" I shake my head.
"I felt the same way. Jordan and I only met a little over a week ago while we were on vacation. Yet we're living together, and my daughter calls him Daddy. Society may say that as single mothers, we should be more careful and take our time, but I say fuck them. What does society know? If you feel something is right, then go for it. If nothing else, I've learned that life is too short to worry about what everyone else thinks or what is proper. If you want to run off and marry Bobby tomorrow, do it." She smiles at me as she laughs lightly.
"Thank you. I don't have anyone to talk to besides my co-workers and my kids." Courtney and I may have very different backgrounds, but we have more in common than she thinks.
"Talk to me anytime. I don't really have any friends, either. I run a business and have employees, but I have no real friends. I think we're going to be around each other for a while, so at least we get along." We look toward the door when we hear running. Dakota runs into the room, followed by Tyler and Sarah, who are running much slower.
"Mommy, you have to see my room! It looks really neat!" She says excitedly. I rub my hand over her head. Courtney and I have this in common: we're single mothers who will do anything and everything for our kids. Jordan and Bobby stand in the doorway, looking at us. The men who have come into our lives and made our families complete are an added bonus. I think we're all going to be one big family after all this is over. We just have to stay alive.
