Chapter 39 Anushka's Father
Raymond's P.O.V.
I'm getting more and more frustrated trying to figure out who hired the man to kidnap Anushka. It usually doesn't take long, but this guy knew how to cover his tracks. I finally discovered the kidnapper’s name was Cain, but there was little else. When I'm about ready to declare who hired him a ghost, I find a small trail of electronic breadcrumbs. I carefully follow them, making sure they don't lead me down another rabbit hole.
When I decipher the code for the last piece, it opens a hidden file. I read what's in it three times to ensure I'm seeing it correctly. First, there's a list of people that Cain tortured and what methods he used. He was extremely brutal to the women. I'm not even going to get into what that signifies. When I scroll to the next page, it has a list of the people who hired him to kill the men and women on the other list. I look at the name at the bottom and feel sick. It's Stewart Wilkins, Anushka's father. I can't believe her own dad would hire someone to kill her.
Before I call Jordan, I want to dig a little deeper to see if I can find out why Stewart is going after Anushka. Luckily, he's not as security-conscious with his files as Cain was. I open the one titled Anushka and begin reading through the contents. Most of it is about her taking over his company. I found the contract where he hired Cain. When I scroll further, I freeze. This changes everything. I can't tell Jordan and Anushka over the phone. I need to see them in person.

The physical therapist I hired is working with Anushka, and I'm watching him like a hawk. I'm paying him to stay in the hotel across the street with one of our security men. I've tripled security after everything that has happened. We have Bobby and Gavin inside, who will live with us around the clock. There are two men outside the door. Two more are downstairs in the lobby of the building. Another two are outside the building. I have one with the physical therapist and another one with Dr. Martinez. We have made arrangements with Dr. Martinez to pick up the IV fluids from the pharmacy every day before he comes; that way, Courtney has what she needs to take care of Anushka without anyone leaving the penthouse. No one is getting near my family again.
"You're doing very well. I can't believe you just woke up a couple of days ago and came home yesterday. You shouldn't be this mobile." Lee, the physical therapist, says. I know Anushka thinks I'm hovering too much, but I refuse to let any man be with her alone. Not only because I don't trust them with everything going on but also because I don't trust them with my beautiful fiancé.
"I have my family here to thank. They haven't left my side since this happened." Anushka looks at me and smiles as Lee helps her into the wheelchair. Courtney reconnects her IV and makes sure Anushka is comfortable. Bobby has the kids in Dakota's room, watching Bill work. After being a bachelor for so long and living here by myself for years, I love having a house full of people.
"Keep up the good work, and you won't need me much longer. I gave Courtney a list of exercises you can do when I'm not here. Do you have any questions before I go?" Lee looks from Anushka to me.
"No, thank you. We'll see you tomorrow." I tell him. He smiles and walks out with Paul, who's assigned to stay with him.
"You really don't like him, do you?" Anushka asks as I walk over and kiss her.
"I don't like any man touching you. I don't care who it is. How's your pain?" I know she tries to cover up how much she hurts sometimes, no matter how many times we all tell her not to.
"Courtney gave me some pain medication before Lee got here, so I'm okay. Just tired and hungry." She replies.
"Do you want me to make you some soup? When Dr. Martinez comes later, we can see if you can move up to solid foods," Courtney asks her. I'm happy that things worked out the way they did. She has been wonderful, and her kids are amazing.
"Can you make me some tomato soup?" Anushka asks.
"Of course. Would you like anything, Jordan?" Courtney asks me.
"No, thank you. You don't have to cook for us too." I tell her. Courtney chuckles as she walks toward the kitchen.
"It's the least I can do. Besides, I love to cook, and you have an incredible kitchen." I expect her to pull out a can of tomato soup, but she's getting fresh tomatoes. I ordered groceries yesterday when we were on the way home. I think I ordered everything the store had because I wanted to reduce the number of people coming to our door. Thank goodness Courtney knows how to cook because I don't even know what half the stuff I bought is. I look at my phone when I receive a text. It's from one of the men downstairs.
There's a Raymond here to see you. He says it's urgent that he speak with you and Anushka.
Send him up. I text back. I hope he's found something out about who wanted Anushka kidnapped.
"Raymond's on his way up. He said he needs to talk to both of us." I tell Anushka.
"Okay." I look at Gavin, and he opens the door. Raymond is there, looking around nervously.
"I'm glad you guys have all this security. You're going to need it." He says as he makes his way over to us.
"Did you find something?" I walk behind Anushka and put my hands on her shoulders.
"Yes. More than I anticipated. The man who attempted to kidnap you was named Cain. It took some digging, but I was able to find the person who had hired him. Anushka, it was Stewart Wilkins." I squeeze her shoulders slightly when she gasps.
"I knew my dad hated me, but I never thought he would do something this extreme," she says softly. I can hear the hurt in her voice, but my eyes are on Raymond. He has more to say.
"That's not all. Have you ever heard of the Kondrati family?" He asks.
"No." Anushka and I both reply.
"Are you talking about the Russian mob boss Christov Kondrati?" Gavin asks, walking over to us.
"Yes," Raymond answers. "The reason Stewart treats you the way he does is that you're not his daughter. I found records saved on Stewart's computer that prove he's not your father. Apparently, your mother was already pregnant when they met, but she told him that you were his."
"Who is my father, and why is Stewart doing this now?" She asks.
"Your father is Christov Kondrati. You are his only daughter. There is no indication that Christov knows about you, but he has inheritances set up for his sons. He also has one set up in case he ever has a daughter. It states that if he has a biological daughter, she will own 25% of his empire when her first child celebrates their fifth birthday. Dakota is turning five soon; at that time, you will own a quarter of the Kondrati empire. If anyone finds out about this and who you are, your troubles are just beginning."
