Chapter 37 The Hitman
Gavin's P.O.V.
I feel uncomfortable about Anushka being moved to a non-secure unit. There are too many people able to get around. I can't tell who's a doctor, nurse, or housekeeper because they all wear scrubs. Jordan walks out to talk to me while the doctor checks Anushka.
"You don't like this any more than I do, do you?" He asks, leaning against the wall next to me.
"No. There's too much going on here. Someone can sneak in, and we won't know who they are. Especially with half the people wearing face masks. They can pretend to be one of the staff, and we would never know." I answer him. Gregory was already able to get to the nurse who Bobby likes. At least she turned out to be a good person, but what if he gets to someone else? Even if we check all their badges, one of the staff members could be corrupt.
"I'm going to talk to the doctor. We need a better plan. Give me a minute." I nod and look around, noticing people looking at me with curiosity. Too many eyes are on this room. It's not good, but I swear I will give my life to save Anushka, Dakota, and Jordan. I have a soft spot for little Dakota. That girl is wicked smart, and I'll admit she's making me want to have kids of my own. Maybe one day. Not today, but maybe one day.

I look at my phone every five minutes, hoping to receive confirmation that Anushka is dead. So far, I haven't received anything. This has to happen soon. I'm using every bit of my saved money, but it will be worth it to get back what's mine. As long as the deadline doesn't run out, everything will be fine. He'd better not mess this up like the last one did. I know she's in the hospital, but that should make it easier.
I tap my fingers on my desk impatiently. What is taking so long? I pay for results, not to sit around and wait. If anyone discovers who Anushka is, I'm dead, and all hell will break loose. Her stupid mother thought I didn't know the truth. Well, the joke was on her because I knew, and that's why I made the bitch suffer up until her final days. When my phone dings with a notification, I look at it and smile.
Moving in now. Give me a few minutes, and it will be done.
Good, now I can relax a little. This will all be over soon, and everything can return to normal. Let me get my best suit ready for the funeral. That will be the day I show up with fake tears to take my company back. Anushka will be dead, and the secrets will be buried with her.

I'm having so much fun with Courtney, Tyler, and Sarah that I almost forget what I'm supposed to be doing until I get a text from Gavin. There's been a change of plans, and we need to move fast.
"Hey guys, I'm sorry, but it looks like we can't stay here." I look at Courtney, and she looks frightened.
"Is everything okay?" she asks. I take her hand and pull her toward the kitchen, away from the kids.
"They moved Anushka from the ICU to a regular unit. After what Gregory did to get to you, they don't feel safe having her in an unsecured room. They're worried about us too, so they've changed plans. We're going to go to a new location. I promise you that I will keep you and the kids safe." I wrap my arms around Courtney, and she hugs me back.
"I trust you. Bobby, are you sure you want to start something with me? I have a ready-made family, and I don't want you to feel like you're getting roped into something you're not ready for." Before she can finish speaking, my mouth is on hers. I have wanted to kiss her since she said she was ready for more, but I didn't want to push her. When she wraps her arms around my neck and puts her hands in my hair, I know she wants it, too. I stroke her tongue with mine, and she lets out the softest moan. I pull back before I make a mistake and go further.
"I want you, Courtney. You and the kids. I know it's fast, not to mention we met in the middle of chaos, but maybe this all happened for a reason to bring us together. Tonight, once we're settled and the kids are in bed, let's talk. Okay?" She rubs my cheek with her hand.
"Okay, we'll talk tonight. I want you too, Bobby. You make me feel whole, like I can breathe again." I smile and hug her tight, lifting her feet off the ground. I'm going to marry her one day.
We quickly grab the bags that we hadn't unpacked and head downstairs, where the SUV is waiting. Hopefully, we can stay at the next place for more than five minutes. No matter what happens, I will ensure Courtney, Tyler, and Sarah are safe.

I put the scrubs and face mask back on when it's dark out, but not too late. I head straight upstairs to the floor where they took Anushka earlier. When I get to her unit, I look toward the room and see that Gavin isn't there. He must have gone to the restroom. This is even better. I can get in and get out. I walk down the hallway, looking at room numbers as though I'm trying to find the right one. I get to her room and look around. No one is paying attention to me, so I put my hand on the doorknob and open it quietly.
The room has dim lighting, and it's dark outside, making it even easier for me to sneak around. Someone is sleeping on the reclining chair. I assume it's Jordan, but I can't see his face. Anushka's sleeping, too. I guess I won't get the chance to tell her who she is. I pull out my gun with the silencer and hold it near her blonde head. It's time to say goodbye.
