Chapter 259 Not True
Dakota's P.O.V.
"Are you saying that Galdino hired someone to kill his dad?" I ask Aubrey. Her eyes widen, and she shakes her head.
"There is no way Galdino would do that. Santino was his hero. They may have had a falling out about Santino's connection to you and your mom, but I have no doubt that Galdino loved him. There has to be another explanation. I just never connected the dots until now." I have to talk to Ari, and then we need to talk to Galdino. Is it possible he has a brother or sister out there that he doesn't know about?
"I'll check on you later. Let me know if you need anything. Gabe, can you stay with Aubrey, please? More people may be coming for her, and I don't want her left alone." Gabe's face turns bright red as he glances at Aubrey.
"I'll stay with her," he replies. I glance at Aubrey, and she smiles. They may be complete opposites, but I think they're good for each other, even if they're nothing more than friends. I leave the room and go to the dining room, where I left Ari. He's still sitting at the table with Sam, Addy, and Enzo.
"Can Addy go to my room with me so we can play?" Enzo asks Sam. She smiles at them and nods.
"Of course. Addy, I'll be in our room working on my book if you need anything," she says.
"Okay, Mommy." Enzo and Addy run upstairs, and I can't help but smile as I watch them. I remember being that young and playing with Tyler, Noah, and Sarah. I miss those times.
"Do you need anything that we may have forgotten?" I ask Sam before she leaves.
"No, I think we have everything. Everyone has been so kind and made us feel like family. It's always just been Addy and me, except for my dad's yearly visits. It feels nice being around so many genuine people. This is not exactly the way I pictured a mafia family, but it's so much better. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help out around the house." I hug her and smile.
"The only thing I want you to focus on is walking again. I will get a physical therapist to come here to work with you. I think it will be safer than having you go somewhere." When I pull away from Sam, she has tears in her eyes.
"Thank you, Dakota." She heads to her room, and I sigh. Why are there so many lonely people in the world just trying to survive? None of the people I have brought into our family wants to be rich and powerful. They just want to live their lives, and I hope I'm helping them do that.
"Are you okay?" Ari asks, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"We need to talk. Let's go outside." I take his hand, and we walk out the back door and sit on the porch steps.
"Has your dad ever said anything about having a brother or sister?" I ask him.
"No. Grandpa always said Dad was his only child, and I was his only grandchild until he met you. After he found out about you, he thought of you as his granddaughter. Why do you ask?" I quickly tell him what Aubrey had overheard around the time Grandpa Sandy died, and he closes his eyes.
"If Grandpa had another child, there is no way he knew about him or her. Let's talk to my dad." Ari stands and pulls me to my feet. We go to Galdino and Valentina's room, and I knock on the door. Galdino opens it and studies our faces.
"What's wrong?" he asks. I look into his eyes and know in my heart that this man I have come to love like a second father wouldn't have had Grandpa Sandy killed.
