Chapter 205 Getting Away
Enzo's P.O.V.
I can't believe those mean men got me. Dakota told me she needed me to keep everyone safe. After I got the others to the treehouse, I wanted to check on her and Ari because she said I had to keep everyone safe, and that meant them, too. I hear my mom scream as the man who's holding me throws me in the car. I can't cry. I have to stay calm.
"You're going to help us get Dakota," the man in the back of the car with me says. He looks almost just like the other man. These must be the twins Dakota was talking about. She said they were bad. What would Dakota want me to do?
"How are you going to get her?" I ask. The man looks at me with his ugly eyes squinted.
"Aren't you scared? We just took you from your mommy. Shouldn't you be crying or screaming right now?" he asks.
"I'm not scared of you. Dakota and Ari will come and get me." I look out the window and think of how I can get away. Dakota is strong. I need to be strong like her.
"How are they going to find you? They don't know where you are," the man in the front seat says.
"How do you know they don't know where I am?" I ask, still looking out the window.
"We're smarter than they are. If we weren't, we wouldn't have been able to get you. We knew she would try to save as many people as possible from the explosion Myra had set up, so we were waiting behind the house. Why were you going back to the house instead of staying with the others?" The man sitting in the back with me asks. Maybe if I talk to them, then I can get away. I don't want to make them mad.
"I wanted to check on Dakota and Ari," I tell him. When the car slows down, I think about opening the door and jumping out, but there's no one around. I need to wait until I see more people. Dakota told me that if I ever needed help, I should yell as loud as possible so someone could hear me.
"How is a kid like you going to help them? You're too little. You can't do anything," the man next to me says while he and the other man laugh. I ignore them. Dakota and Ari tell me I can do anything I put my mind to. I love my mommy, and I love having a daddy now, but Dakota and Ari treat me like I'm big.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask them.
"To our house. Don't worry, you won't be there long. We want to trade you for Dakota," the man driving says. I can't let them get Dakota.
"Why do you want her?" I ask them. I want to get out of the car before we get to their house. I lean against the door and cough so I can unlock it without the men hearing. After my new daddy saved me, he told me things I could do to get away if it happened again. He told me if I had to do something that was going to make a noise, I should cough so the people wouldn't hear. I lean forward a little and put my hand on the door handle. As soon as we stop, I'm going to jump out and run.
"We just want to talk to her," the man in the front says. I see a stoplight ahead. It turns red when we're almost there. As soon as we come to a stop, I pull the door handle and jump out of the car. The man in the back grabs my shirt, but I twist away, causing it to tear.
"HELP! HELP! THESE MEN TOOK ME FROM MY MOMMY AND DADDY!" I yell as I run away from the car. The back door closes, and the car takes off as I reach the people on the sidewalk. When I turn around, the car is gone.
