Chapter 107

Chapter 107
My hand splayed out on my stomach. Caspian put a hand over it, lacing our fingers.

We stood there in silence for a few minutes before my stomach grumbled under our hands. Reminding us that we hadn’t had any breakfast yet even though we had a thorough workout. Caspian smiled knowingly at me.

“Unsatiable aren’t you?” He playfully shook his head. “Always hungry for something.”

“Says the incubus!” I shrugged out of his arms to go to my room. After slipping on my bigfoot house shoes, I was ready to go downstairs. At the top of the staircase, he pulled me back so he could proceed me down. Rolling my eyes, I followed him.

On the main floor, we strolled arm in arm to the kitchen. “I hope Kerrigan lets go of this whole pregnancy thing.”

Caspian scoffed at me. “That imp hasn’t ever let go of anything.”

I shook my head. “That must be frustrating.”

We came to a surprised halt as we turned into the kitchen. The island was covered in food. Mini omelets, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, and a platter with sliced up avocado, berries and bananas. Smoothies were poured in tall glasses beside smaller glasses of orange juice. No coffee. In fact, the coffee maker was missing.

I looked at Caspian in horror. “Is our imp broken?”

He gave a barely noticeable shake of his head. Sighing, he looked at the spread on the island. “Kerrigan!”

A black swirling tornado blew in from the hall behind us. It was replaced with Kerrigan. They had switched out the lime green chef smock for what I assumed was a nanny uniform. It was a parks green knee length short sleeve dress with double white buttons running down the middle. The sleeves and lapel were white. White stiletto leather boots popped against their inky black legs. The fake newborn was now in a wine colored baby bjorn strapped to their front.

“Yo! Yo! Yo!” They greeted us.

“Where’s the coffee maker?” I growled out. I need my morning caffeine.

“Caffeine is bad for the baby. According to the book!” They produced a pregnancy book out of their pocket. “I’ve made the perfect breakfast suggested in the book.”

The way their kept saying the book was like it was their bible or something. Smiling they handed me one of the smoothies. “Try it! It’s made from almond milk, spinach and bananas. Good for the baby.”

“Uh, no.” I turned to the fridge. Scoffing I threw open the aqua French doors on the huge refrigerator. Desperately I dug around all the ingredients that filled the shelves. Frowning I realized it was full of health food.  “Where is the soda?”

I turned when the imp didn’t answer me. They were wiping the spotless counter with a white rag while not looking at me. “Kerrigan? Where is the soda?”

“It’s bad for the baby!” They brandished the book at me again. On the verge of freak out, I looked to my demon, the lover not the caffeine denier.

“Kerrigan! Please get us some coffee.” His voice was firm. Booked no argument. So hot. They stared defiantly at him for a moment. Then muttering, popped out.  “Go sit down, Gazelle.”

Nodding, I went outside while he started to make our plates. Chubbers was already out there, licking a plate on the patio table. “You’re going to get fat.”

She didn’t even look up at me as I flopped down beside her. A moment later, Caspian brought out a plate loaded with omelets and fruit. He plunked a glass of orange juice in front of me. I lightly kissed him as a thank you. Before we could take the first bite, Kerrigan popped back in. They placed a coffee drink from my favorite chain in front of us.

The fake baby was swaddled to their chest in a black blanket. But they had switched out the uniform for an old fashioned one. Now they were in a poofy black dress that covered them neck to ankle. Long ruffled sleeves covered their arms. A pristine white apron covered the front of the dress.

“Thank you, Kerrigan.” Happily, I took a long drink of the banana split flavored one. Then frowned and looked at it. Squinting my eyes at the imp, I took another drink. It tasted like betrayal. “This is decaf.”

“Kerrigan.” Caspian said warningly. The imp put their hands on their hips and glared at us. Their snakes sneered at us. Even Glen.

“Do you know what caffeine can do to a baby?” They challenged us. I rubbed my round belly.

“This is a taco baby, not a demon baby.” I assured them. “The test said so.”

“It’s just too soon for the test to pick up.” They stormed off to the door to the house. “And you made that demon baby with your taco!”
