Chapter 101

Chapter 101

A black swirling tornado blew into the small room.  It morphed into the familiar sight of Kerrigan. One day I’d find out why a demon had a daffodil tattoo on their neck.

“Yo Yo Yo!” Their voice was higher than normal. Black coal-like eyes flicked to me than back to the incubus. “You need something boss?”

“Where have you been, imp?” His voice was like steel. Oh, someone was big mad.

“Just taking care of business Boss!” They produced a duster from their lime green chef smock to wipe off the bookshelf that lined the wall. How had it fit in their pocket? “Office is coming along nicely boss!”

“Kerrigan. Last chance.” He looked all menacing and hot. My girlie bits were still recovering from what we had just done and I wanted more.  Surprised, he shot me a not now woman look. The tingle shot through me again. Clearing my throat, I reigned in my libido. I’d unleash it later.

Kerrigan’s hair snakes wilted. Except the one I assumed was Glen. He just looked at me haughtily. “We were just taking care of you, Boss.”

“Explain. In detail.” Caspian menaced out between gritted teeth. Seriously, how hot was this man when angry? Was it wrong to want to be spanked right now? Oh, big side eye. Yeah, I was jumping him later.

“We just messed with the human bit.” They went on to cleaning the windows. Where had the window cleaner been? Regardless, they were now washing the window.

“That’s not in detail!” I bit my lip. Trying desperately to stay out of this. It felt like I was watching a parent scold a naughty child. He stepped in front of them, making them look up at him. “Kerrigan?”

The cleaning products vanished without a trace. They sighed and shrugged. “We moved stuff, ya know? Let him see us in various forms. Maybe pop in while he was sleeping so he woke up to standing over him.”

Keeping my voice soft, I asked. “Why did you terrorize my ex?”

They shifted uncomfortably, not making eye contact. So did the fire hair snakes. Even Glen looked down.

“Kerrigan?” Caspian’s voice was more cajoling than angry now. He put a comforting hand on their lime green clad shoulder. “Tell me. We will deal with it together.”

Their eyes slid to me and then locked back on his before sliding to the floor. Whatever their reasons were, obviously they didn’t want me involved. I trusted Caspian to tell me what I needed to know. I nodded. “Shall I take my leave?”

“No. Whatever I learn, I’m just going to tell you anyways. You might as well hear it straight from the source. Then you can ask any questions you may have.” He smiled sweetly at me. So, this was a healthy relationship. Trusting each other, not keeping secrets. No wonder I craved him.

Kerrigan nodded. Then produced a dusting cloth on an a extender to run along the crown molding. As they dusted, they spoke. “For the bond to fully take, there can’t be any doubts.”

Caspian and I looked at each other, puzzled. I decided I’d be the one to ask what they meant. From their research in the demon realm, if there was any piece of either of us in love with another, the bond couldn’t form. Kerrigan and Kingston had been concerned that I still had feelings for Rich. That if he kept showing up being all draper (their word not mine), then I might fall back under his spell.

If Caspian had bonded to me and that happened, it would cause him to be obliterated. Just gone from all realms. Shattered. To ensure the safety of their boss, they had with the help of their friend, decided to drive Rich crazy so I wouldn’t want anything to do with him.

Pursing my lips in confusion, I scratched the back of my head. “So, your plan was to make him look like a crazy person, so I’d stay with the demon?”

They had the grace to look ashamed as they stared at the floor. Narrowing my eyes, I looked from the demon to the imp. Caspian was looking at is imp with compassion filled eyes. I needed conformation on a thought. “Kerrigan?”

They raised their black eyes to me. I couldn’t read any emotion in them, but that was pretty much normal. “What happens to you if Caspian goes blewy?”

The imp sucked in their breath. Yeah. That’s what I thought. “You both shatter, right?”

Caspian pulled his imp into his arms. Holding them close yet keeping his head away from the fire snakes. I wondered if they would burn him too. I saw them chew their lip then shake their head. “I would be untethered.”

They sniffed. Red lava looking tears escaped their eyes. Caspian swore impressively. “I’d be gone and you would be left behind. Alone. Unprotected.”

The imp nodded against his chest. “Unclaimed.”
