Chapter 49 Her Difficult Circumstances

Chapter 49 Her Difficult Circumstances

Michael really hated being threatened. His eyes filled with frost, and the aura around him grew increasingly sharp.

Having spent seven years with him day and night, Seraphina understood this well.

But right now, she had to take this gamble.

"Everyone says you're not only young and accomplished, but also a devoted son. I'm sure you wouldn't want to ruin your entire image over a small bottle of medicine, would you?"

Seraphina straightened her back and spoke calmly and confidently.

Michael snorted coldly, "You really know how to bargain with me!"

Seraphina smiled faintly and said nothing.

Using the medicine as leverage was indeed not very honorable.

But who told Michael to play dirty first!

When he had Wendy arrested, did he consider Seraphina's feelings?

Since he didn't, then naturally she didn't need to show him any courtesy either!

Actually, this was fine. She also wanted to see whether Michael would choose his mother or continue to defend Susan.

But as their eyes met, Seraphina noticed a deep sense of disappointment floating in Michael's eyes.

She almost laughed out loud.

She really didn't know how Michael had the nerve to show such an expression!

Clearly all of this was caused by him, yet he could always precisely shift the blame onto others.

Wasn't that a skill in itself?

"I agree."

After a long moment, Michael looked away, his voice cold as ice.

"Bring me the medicine, and I'll release Wendy."

"Okay!"

The next day, The Faraday Center.

This was an old research institute located in the suburbs of Silverpeak City. Due to aging equipment and staff changes, the huge facility was now empty.

From the outside, the walls were mottled, and even some letters on the sign were missing. It looked no different from an abandoned building!

But near the entrance, one laboratory was still operating!

Seraphina stood at the institute's entrance, took a deep breath, lifted her foot to walk in, and slowly entered the laboratory.

After all these years, this lab couldn't compare to the newer, more advanced ones built later. The equipment also looked quite simple and dated.

An elderly man with gray hair stood at the workstation, seemingly doing something, his expression focused and serious.

Though old and worn, the entire laboratory was exceptionally clean and tidy.

Seraphina stood to the side, quietly watching him conduct his experiment.

Finally, the experiment was finished.

She stepped forward: "Mr. Turner, I'd like to..."

"You don't need to want anything. Whatever you're after, I don't have it here. Please leave and stop wandering around!"

Clayton Turner before her was about seventy years old, wearing work clothes, full of energy.

He used to be a member of the research institute. Later, when the staff relocated, he didn't leave and stayed at this facility.

This was both his home and his everything.

Yet this old man, forgotten and abandoned by everyone in this dilapidated old facility, was actually a highly accomplished medical doctor.

In his era, the value of a medical doctorate was beyond imagination!

Before she got married, Seraphina had heard that Bianca suffered from stomach pain. To win Bianca's favor, she searched everywhere for famous doctors.

Finally, by chance, she learned that there was an expert here.

So with a try-it-and-see attitude, Seraphina came.

But on the first day, she couldn't even get through the institute's gate.

Even though Clayton walked right past her, he acted as if he didn't see her.

But Seraphina was always persistent and determined, coming again and again.

Finally, after a month, she stepped into the laboratory.

But just as she explained what she wanted to do, she was rejected without hesitation!

Clayton said he hadn't made medicine in many years. Now he just occasionally did experiments to pass the time. Seraphina had come to the wrong person!

No matter how much Seraphina pleaded, he remained unmoved.

But Seraphina still displayed her never-give-up spirit, day after day, until finally Clayton couldn't take it anymore and asked her what she really wanted to do with medicine for stomach pain.

When he learned that Seraphina wanted it for Bianca, he thought she was quite filial.

In the end, his heart softened, and he agreed.

So he had been prescribing this medicine for seven years.

Following his formula for another year or two, Bianca's chronic condition should be completely cured.

But just because he lived in this remote place didn't mean he was cut off from the outside world.

At some point, news about the Talbot Group online had become so high-profile that he couldn't avoid seeing it even if he tried.

That's when he realized that Seraphina hadn't married into a good family at all.

She had been deceived!

And naturally, he had been deceived too.

So from then on, Clayton refused to give Seraphina any more medicine.

Since the Talbot Family didn't know gratitude, she didn't need to keep giving either.

A few days ago, Seraphina indeed didn't come.

He thought Seraphina had finally learned to think about herself, but unexpectedly, she came again today.

Clayton absolutely didn't want her to suffer losses for nothing anymore!

But Seraphina's attitude was very sincere, tears in her eyes, pleading desperately.

"Mr. Turner, please, I promise this is really the last time!"

"This bottle of medicine is especially important to me. I must take it back."

As Seraphina spoke, thinking of Wendy still waiting for her to save her, her voice became choked with emotion.

"Mr. Turner."

Finally, she called out with a sob in her voice.

Clayton's body stiffened slightly. He looked up at her crying face and ultimately couldn't bear it. He sighed.

"Alright, stop crying. I've made exceptions for you many times already. What's one more?"

"But I've seen all the news online. The Talbot Family is simply too much. Why do you need to repay evil with kindness?"

Seraphina smiled bitterly, "I'm not doing this for their family. I'm doing it for my friend. She's in some trouble."

Only then did Clayton understand. No wonder Seraphina was so anxious.

She had always been a good person who valued relationships and loyalty. This time she must be really worried, which forced her to come ask for his help!

But thinking about giving this medicine to the Talbot Family, Clayton felt somewhat unwilling...

After hesitating for a while, he asked Seraphina.

"Are you painting again now?"

Seraphina was slightly stunned, then nodded. However, there had been too many things going on recently, and she really didn't have time to paint...

Seeing her nod, Clayton's expression became serious.

"Here's the thing. I can give you the medicine, but you have to agree to one condition. A group of my old friends and I have always wanted to have a portrait painted. Since you've picked up your brush again, I'll leave this job to you. What do you think?"

Seraphina's eyes lit up.

She could get the medicine and practice her painting skills at the same time. Why not?

"Of course! Whether it's a group portrait or individual portraits for each of you, I'll complete them with quality and on time!"

Seraphina nodded vigorously, her face full of joy.

However, after speaking, she was still a bit hesitant: "But Mr. Turner, can I bring Patrick along that day?"
