Chapter 31 Playing Hard to Get?

Chapter 31 Playing Hard to Get?

Seraphina didn't speak. She gently shook her head, pulled at the corners of her mouth, and gave a bitter smile.

If these nurses knew that the woman they'd just been so indignant about was actually her, what would their expressions be?

"You're seriously injured, with a mild concussion. You may feel dizzy. Ms. Borgia, given your current condition, it would be best to have family come take care of you!"

When she heard this, Seraphina felt momentarily dazed.

Her family was probably lovingly keeping another woman company right now, wasn't it?

Where did she even have family anymore?

After a moment of silence, Seraphina picked up her phone and sent a message.

The nurses watched as Seraphina remained silent the whole time. They exchanged glances, probably guessing she was in a bad mood, and gave each other knowing looks.

Once they confirmed she was okay for now, they left.

The hospital room instantly became quiet again.

Susan's injuries weren't serious—just some redness and swelling around her ankle.

But perhaps because she felt wronged, she kept crying. Michael tried everything to calm her down, feeling completely exhausted both physically and mentally.

"Michael, I'm a bit hungry. I want to drink the chicken soup Seraphina makes."

On the hospital bed, Susan's face was pale, her eyes red and swollen. She sobbed and spoke carefully: "But Seraphina hates me so much, she definitely won't want to make it, right?"

"Never mind, I'll just think about it. It's okay, as long as you two don't fight because of me!"

Michael's brows furrowed tightly. He obviously felt this request wasn't quite appropriate either.

But Susan was injured after all, and besides, she didn't have much time left. She just wanted a bowl of chicken soup—was that really too much to ask?

Michael's heart softened in the end.

He sighed and took out his phone: "You're the patient. Taking care of patients is only right. I'll have her make it."

Susan immediately smiled through her tears: "Really? Michael, thank you."

One number had already been blocked by Seraphina. Suppressing his anger, he called from another number.

It went through, but no one answered on the other end.

After three calls, Michael's face showed clear impatience.

What was she trying to pull? Playing hard to get?

"Michael, why isn't Seraphina answering? She must still be angry, right? Forget it, don't bother her anymore."

"Her, angry? What does she have to be angry about!"

Seraphina not answering the phone already annoyed Michael.

Hearing Susan backing down like this made him even more furious. He stood up abruptly.

"Susan, you rest first. I'm going home to check."

With that, he turned and left with an angry expression, never seeing the flash of satisfaction in Susan's eyes.

Michael drove all the way home.

By the time he got there, it was already late at night.

At this hour, the servants and Janna were all asleep. The entire villa was silent, making him inexplicably anxious.

But before, no matter how late it was, Seraphina would always leave a light on for him.

Whenever he came home, he would see Seraphina half-leaning against the sofa under the warm yellow floor lamp, sleeping peacefully.

Back then, he always felt incredibly at ease.

He would walk over, plant a gentle kiss on Seraphina's cheek, and carry her upstairs to rest.

But now, everything around was empty.

Cold and darkness wrapped around Michael, making him feel an inexplicable panic.

He thought of the woman covered in blood who had crashed into Susan today.

She really did look a lot like Seraphina!

Michael's brows furrowed tightly. He took out his phone again and dialed her number.

Still no answer.

In the empty living room, only the busy signal from the phone kept sounding.

Thinking about it carefully, Michael couldn't remember how long it had been since she'd come home.

What was this supposed to mean?

She'd been throwing this tantrum for so many days, and she still wouldn't back down?

He suddenly remembered what Ryan had said before—sometimes you just can't be too nice to women!

You have to teach her a lesson, so she knows he has his limits too.

Sure enough, he'd been too lenient with Seraphina before, which is why she dared to oppose him like this!

Seraphina woke up the next morning.

She picked up her phone and saw many missed calls and text messages.

Demanding to know where she was, why she wasn't answering the phone, how long she was going to keep this up?

Seraphina gave a mocking smile and deleted them all with one click.

Out of sight, out of mind.

After the doctor made rounds, police came to question her: "Ms. Borgia, yesterday we received a report about an assault incident at Royal Oak Primary. We need to investigate this, and we ask for your cooperation."

Seraphina nodded and calmly explained: "I went to the school for a parent open house for my employer's child. In the hallway, I had just turned around when someone rushed down from upstairs and violently knocked me down the stairs. I didn't have time to react at all..."

The police took notes as she spoke.

Suddenly, they looked up and asked: "Ms. Borgia, are you certain she knocked into you, and not that you knocked into her?"

Seraphina's brows furrowed slightly: "What do you mean? She won't admit it?"

The police nodded somewhat awkwardly: "That's the current situation. She says you rushed out and crashed into her first, but because your position was closer to the stairs, you rolled down first. But she claims this incident was caused by you!"

Seraphina almost laughed in anger.

"Who it really was—can't you just check the surveillance footage? I didn't even see her, and I had no intention of crashing into her!"

Hearing this, the police looked even more troubled: "The stairway where you two were located happens to be in the school's surveillance blind spot, so there's no evidence to prove which of you is telling the truth."

"This matter requires further investigation, or you two can settle it between yourselves!"

Seraphina gave a light, mocking laugh and closed her eyes wearily.

She should have known this would be the result. Since Susan dared to make a move on her in a place like the school, how could she not have prepared a foolproof plan?

But what exactly was she trying to do?

First, she used a kidnapping to test Michael's feelings. Michael had already chosen her—wasn't that enough?

Why did she need to put her in danger again?

As soon as the investigation on Seraphina's side ended, the information was passed to Michael's assistant, Steven Mitchell.

He was reporting this to Michael: "Mr. Talbot, according to the police, the other party doesn't admit she knocked into Miss Dixon. Instead, she claims Miss Dixon violently knocked her down the stairs. Her attitude is firm, and she doesn't plan to change her story easily."

Hearing this, Susan, lying on the hospital bed looking extremely weak and fragile, immediately showed a wronged expression.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she quickly shook her head.

"No, it's not like that. Really, she suddenly rushed out trying to hit me, but she didn't expect to hurt herself instead. But I got hurt so badly too..."

As she spoke, she tremblingly grabbed the corner of Michael's clothes, her eyes full of glistening tears.

"Michael, yesterday the doctor said my hand ligament is strained. I wanted to paint a few more pictures in my final days to leave as memories for you."
