Chapter 186
Chapter 186
Titafia
I flew the perimeter, wondering why I had not seen Kenriel. I figured he didn’t wish to share words with me, so I kept up my patrol.
Nothing of note happened, other than the occasional small curse thrown General Tyson’s way. He’d done no ill to warrant it, and usually it wouldn’t affect him, but I slashed through the purple orbs that lazily floated his direction anyway.
Most were from our people…. The humans do not like, nor trust him, even though in my eyes he has earned some. I I personally do like and trust him because his rulings are just. In the time I've spent watching not only his son but his court passively since his son comes with him, he has never done anything corrupt. He does not accept bribes, nor does he allow it to happen under his watch.
Unlike the Sleeping Wolf King, he was not tricked nor bound into an oath that he could not break…. And it isn’t right that others are hating on him so badly that they’re making negativity come his way. I honestly don’t care if they realize that they do it or not.
It’s still not fair.
Plus, negativity like that might give my charge bad dreams, and I’m not having it.
Lustros squeaked, getting dried while Lord Tyson suffered…. He had my condolences on eating what the Moon Goddess made…. Even though he'd since recovered some time ago, even the demons hold reverence when they speak of her cupcakes.…
Her food was so bad that the demons were getting in trouble for tossing bisects at we angels when we flew too down to the lowest parts of Pergatory, or when they delivered souls to hell by tossing them out the master’s realm.
I heard about in passing through Captain Getriel, who works with Lord Tyson’s brother … Poor Kaizen too. Lady Lulliba managed to poison her entire bloodline, even some of her completely mortal ones like the Charred One, Kaiden.
“Who’s my big little man?!” Beamed Samira, and I diligently watched from afar, letting the new mother be with her child. He wiggled to no end in that little blue towel, while I flew comfortably in the stratosphere.
\[Ma!\] he beamed!
“You are!” she glowed spinning him around… I don’t think I’ve ever seen her happier.
“AWE!” I yelled, looking intensely… for observation of course.
It wasn’t because I wanted to pet him!
Samira grew as a person, not just that she married Tyson… Through her own determination and moxie, she gained her own voice. I've watched her grow up and I saw how she was a good child but she was ultimately unhappy with the obligations her family placed upon her. While her twin sisters thrived, she somewhat withered, like a plant that was not given quite enough light or a little too much water. She was not given quite enough freedom, and a little too much control this forced upon her, as what happens with many noble houses.
There is a certain expectation to complete tasks and act accordingly. And I’m one to talk, seeing as how I was created a soldier. From the moment I drew breath, and saw the Light, I had a blade in my hand. I was trained in combat, and I know No Fear.
I was full glad I took this task, regardless to if I’m capable… I know if I die, Uriel will avenge me. That boy belongs to the Night Court… and because of that, my husband would never be tasked to aid in saving Lustros’s little life, I volunteered.
And I am ever grateful to the Moon Goddess. Because of her ruling, I feel the entire room was fully swayed to allow me to do this in the 1st place. I also think it is because this was my true intention. As I watched the little family put their child to bed so they may go to bed themselves, I prepared myself to essentially be bored the rest of the night.
With my rank, I could be stationed somewhere much higher, or at least in the eyes of other angels it would be. However, I feel that this should be done by someone like me who only wants to be aid, with no ulterior motive.
And while the generals are making examples of those who would disobey, I watched the couple.
“Get some rest.” Said Saimira, while their pup was put in his crib. They kept it in the room with them, but who could blame them?
“I can’t argue.” He yawned.
“See!” She exclaimed. “Sleep. Now.”
“Yes. Ma’am.” He chuckled.
“You too mister! Your sleep schedule will not be ruined.” She said confidently.
\[Ma-mama-ma-maaa…\] He yawned too. Although he couldn't quite fully understand what cheat said, it seems no child wishes to go to bed all the time when they're having fun.
It made me happy that Uriel’s children shine. I remember she was the timid one, and her spirit was crushed by the weight of her duties that she was designed to be unable to do…
I felt a presence incoming, and I readied myself.
It was not Kenriel.
“Why are you so close to the master and his freshly hatched?” Chittered Kusare, the Rotted One…First General of the Realm King. “I am not here for battle, but Lord Zytherian is off world.” He said with crossed arms. At the moment, he only had two.
“I am Titafia, the holy Blade, Wife of General Uriel. Here.” I confidently pulled out my orders, and handed them to him. He read it in about a minute. I think he expected me to be afraid, but that is not so easily done.
The Rotted one appears as a ‘handsome’ young man from an island in the East with dark, emerald shimmery hair. He’s ‘handsome’ with air quotes because it is a deceptive appearance, a form created to trick. He only imitates the human form, because his is actually a giant insectoid monster that can split himself apart into thousands of 2 inch copies.
I was told by Uriel he was made that way because of his repulsive true form. His hair was the only thing to even indicate his monstrous nature. It’s green held a bug’s iridescence. If you looked closely, you could see the butterfly scales that made it.
It reflects his carapace, since he usually holds the wings and stinger of a wasp, the legs of a spider, the body of a centipede, and the more copies he becomes, the smaller he gets.
Besides the Beast Prince, I flapped my wings before the second smartest being on this planet, or to wear flesh…. He was someone I could not engage, but I also knew he wasn’t here for blood; I’d be dead already. Uriel’s blessing would not be enough.
“Very well, hive mother of the Unicorn King.” He said firmly. “I shall report to the master that you’re here 18 years and a day.” He said pulling out his phone. “Thank you small one. I have gained off time.”
“Well, since you’re here, would you like to eat with me Rotted One?” I offered. “So long as it’s in the pack, I may partake in lunch with you.”
“I do not understand. I am an egregious monster, the likes of which repulse your kind.” He mumbled. “Explain if you please.”
“Lay down your suspicion; I only wish to ask a few things.” I smiled. He looked at me a long time, but I could not read him. He is a monster… an old one the humans still make horror stories and movies of to this day…. “I figure if I’m to work here, it’s better to get to know as many of the Night Court as possible, and possibly learn something.”
“Alright.” he relented. “I have not been here often, but there is a café down there with mortals who make very nice espresso.”
“Oh?” You like espresso?” I said flying near him.
“Why yes.” His voice sounded happy, but he does not make many faces it seemed. “The bean water’s temperature and bitter nature is something I do not encounter in meals.”
I hadn’t spoken with any of them before, yet somehow this felt pretty natural. I’m also sure by ‘meals’ he also meant screaming innocent people, but I cannot judge a lion for eating antelope… ugh… Regardless, I wouldn’t say anything about it.
We landed, putting our wings away, and it did spark quite the controversy too.
Anyone old enough to recognize him, or knew who he was through his recent visits bowed to us as we walked on the sidewalk. They parted way for us too, but I expected him to charge forward, not politely open the door for me with a bowed head.
“After you, my lady.” He smiled lightly, something I also didn’t expect.
“Aren’t you the charmer.” I said with a light grin, and he grinned back.
“Oh? Did you expect a brute because I am not a mammal?” He chuckled. “I get that a lot.” He pulled a chair out for me, and I sat, still a little surprised. “I also summoned Kenriel, since you two work together to watch the little master. Forgive me, I was following another target you see.”
“Thank you.” I said as a waitress put a pot of coffee in the middle of the table, and three coffee cups, since it was obvious they were listening in. But I can’t see why they wouldn’t. “Who were you intercepting?” I asked. I knew of his dragonfly sight.
He could see, and intercept paths at a glance, seeing all spectrums of light as well, even seeing in total darkness.
The wife of the Unicorn King is sitting in front of his most HATED, skilled enemy, and we’re about to have coffee and snacks.
“As you know, Uriel takes to the skies to behead those who will not lay down their blade. He killed an angel, one off world, and a friend of theirs took offence. I would have kept chasing them, but there are so many young larva of the masters here, that I am bound to this planet.
“And I am bound here as well.” I said honestly. “Would you like me to pour?”
“No, thank you. I rather enjoy serving others.” He said pouring me a cup. He pointed to the crème and sugar, and I held up two fingers. He made it the way I liked it before he made it for himself. “That you volunteer to aid us pleases the master, and it pleases me. It matters not your reasoning.”
“I wish to be of aid to Uriel’s children.” I smiled.
I am not her …. “But I am enough. I must ask if there are any threats on your end that I should worry about.”
“Not really.” He said sipping black coffee. “If they get close enough, they can rightly receive their end.”
