Chapter 177
Chapter 177
Samira
I stretched, and rubbed my eyes. I looked around sleepily, noticing Tyson wasn’t home yet. The sun was still out, and I heard birds but the curtains were still closed at my request. In the dim light, I found my phone next to me on charge. I had 2 notifications.
One was Tyson telling me that Lustros was with his family in Jentucky. I had no problem with that, since I didn’t want him coming home 40 years old or something ridiculous.
The second one was Diana….?
I found that strange since she never calls.
I opened my phone, and saw what she wanted, since she never texts me. It only mentioned for me to call, so I did.
“I wanted to offer my congratulations on your child.” She said as if we were close friends, but she is a fairy. We aren’t close; she wants something.
I’ll figure out what though, it can’t be that bad.
“Thank you.” I said happily, as if I wasn’t suspicious. I won’t do that to her… If she’s reaching out, she must not feel safe enough to turn to her own people, something I can somewhat understand. “How goes your day?” I asked looking at the time, thankful that I didn’t say ‘good morning’, since it was 2:30pm!
“Heavily pregnant.” She complained. “I swear if I get any more bloated, I’m going to pop next week!!”
“Oh dear, how much longer do you have to go?” I asked.
“Months.” She complained. “But I also wanted to ask, did you feel that fluctuation of Old One magic?”
“I did. It’s Tyson fixing Obsidian Coven, I think.” I said groggily walking to the single cup coffee maker they added.
They added a small water jug as well, along with some paper cones, and little spoons in here at our request a few days ago. We could always make coffee in the office, but I wasn’t ready to be out in public just yet.
I got a white ceramic mug by the small end table everything sat on, and put a J-cup in the hopper. It was just espresso. There were creamer cups and sugar cubes on the table too, so while we chatted, I multitasked.
I got my computer while the machine was going.
“Then I’m glad I did call… What happened to cause on of your generals to enact such wrath on my mistress?” she asked. “Their actions without mending would have created some strife.”
“I know.” I said seriously. “General Eternya’s wife was abused by their leaders. I think she was supposed to marry their leader, she refused, and she fled to MisfitMoon, Lord Kaizen’s pack.”
“Then what he as done will be sanctioned as an act of wrath by the Realm King… but I am honestly surprised he did anything about the damage….Tell King Tyson on behalf of the Earth Goddess, and her people… thank you.” She said that sincerely.
“And on behalf of the Wolves and the Night Court, we would not dishonor the peace that is only just sprouting…. Who knows… maybe one day we can include humans as equals.” I said truthfully, but I expected her to laugh.
She didn’t.
“It will take some generations to ease them first…. And we’ll have to heal the hearts of our immortal peoples, since the transgressions of man forever feel as yesterday. Fresh… painful…. Like how I still feel toward the witches, and how they processed my first husband into ingredients.” She hissed. “If I could, I would give a thousand times thousand curses.”
“….. Diana…” I said not knowing what to tell her.
It doesn’t matter what I say, to her, it will forever feel like it happened this morning. I can imagine the horror, looking at him. I heard she discovered what was left of him, and had to bury him while also running a kingdom, fighting the Realm King, and raising her children as a single parent. That takes strength.
But she is also such a complicated, selfish woman. I thought of Alavastros…. He could have been a prince, but instead, he had to live out in the wilderness.
“Don’t feel sorry for me.” she chuckled dryly. “I could bet gold that you thought of my son. I did what was best for me, like any fairy would. It is our way, and he is half of me. Last we spoke he understood….” She sighed. “And I’m over the ‘barn bred’ tabloids… Gods I was such a brat.”
“You’re still a brat.” Said Tyson Behind Me.
“AH!” I yelped, giggling. I was picked up and spun around. We shared a small kiss, and we embraced.
“Sorry.” Said Tyson with a small, cheeky smile. It looked like he was trying not to giggle too, looking handsome in his general outfit. I loved how the fabric felt on the skin, softer than silk, but I suppose it’s stronger than steel.
“You’re Just Like Ash!” Yelled Diana.
“Sorry Diana.” He chuckled with a grin.
\[Ma!\] Squeaked Lustros in Wolf-speech. He was in the middle of the bed, upset that he could probably feel the bed was warm, but I was nowhere to be felt at the moment.
I screamed.
I was put down, and I ran to my little boy!
“Did you hear that?!” I screamed at the Top of my lungs!
I jumped on the bed, and he bounced, happy as soon as he realized I was there. I laid on my tummy, and gave him a million kisses on the top of his teeny head.
\[Ma.\] He said happily, and Tyson passed a napkin. I can’t cry… I wanted to, but I actually thought of my mother’s training for once.
I embraced my little boy. There were no tears. The joy in my heart was good enough.
“I did! Congratulations little one!” Said Diana from the phone. I won’t lie, I forgot it existed and it would be on the floor if not for Tyson holding it. “I think I’ll talk to you later.”
She hung up, and I felt the weight of my mate jiggle the bed as he sat next to us.
He passive face made him look older… more serious. I don’t know what happened, but I could guess. He might have seen how so many died, and it did not settle right with him.
“I’m so glad to be home!” he stretched, extending out his hands, reaching for the sky while on his back.
“I am too.” I said getting on top of him. He smelled of cinnamon, and hot spices. There was no stench of hell on him, only his natural scent it seemed…. He smelled like woods, and power; I could close my eyes and imagine a wheat field, not yet ready…. Sweet grasses that are a treat for me on rare occasion, since most don’t think of wheat as a crop until it’s harvested.
He put his hands on my waist, gently giving me a peck, though neither of us were trying to do too much. It was more that I was glad he was home… I was asleep, but I missed that my bed wasn’t warm, and I didn’t have my son at my side. Now our little family was whole again, and with it, came peace.
I snuggled him, and his massive arm wrapped around me, holding the blanket. He wrapped the three of us up in one swift, but smooth motion, one that was slow, and gentle. With magic, he summoned the remote, and put it on The Roadshow of Antiques, a personal favorite!
“How did you know I like that show?” I asked.
“I do too!” he laughed. “I was really hoping you did as well.” He kissed me on the forehead and he linked some servants to bring food so we could stay in bed. This was what I needed. There was so much always going on, but the breaks, even small ones or a nap, meant a lot.
