Chapter 9 CHAPTER 9: Prophesy Untold
Lucif’s POV
I had been waiting for something like this.
For months. For days. For years. For a whole century if you had to put it like that.
And she was finally there. Right in front of me, already showcasing herself.
I couldn't deny the fact that I was already more than amused. I wasn't expecting it to be her as a person. The most I wanted as a hybrid. But there she was, a fucking tribrid.
If the gods weren't being merciful, I didn't know what else they were being.
But then, there was something that made me slightly worried.
In the world we lived in, power didn't ever come without consequences. And Elizabeth Siege looked exactly like the consequences.
It didn't matter. At least not yet. Not when I was still reeling from the way she flung Lance across the hallway.
I was standing at the same spot, with my hands stuffed in my pockets, when I felt a tap on my shoulder.
It was Lance. I smirked at the sight of him.
“You saw that, didn't you?” He asked, and I gave him the small nod of a head. “You didn't tell me what I was getting into.”
“Even I didn't know what you were getting into. If I did, I would have gotten a chair and drinks. It was iconic to watch.” Then I looked at him from head to toe. “How are you feeling?”
He rubbed against his shoulder, before pulling his shirt back, and showing me the huge purple bruises that stared back at the both of us.
I couldn't help but widen my smirk, before reaching further into my pocket, and putting some money in Lance's pockets.
He looked at me, cocking an eyebrow like he was waiting for me to send him some kind of errand.
“You can get some blood. I don't think anyone would let you bite them now. You look like you've seen a ghost.”
He clicked his tongue, like he didn't want to believe what I was saying.
“What do you even need her for?” He asked.
“None of your business,” I answered without a second thought. Even with all the answers I was giving, I didn't for once take my eyes off Elizabeth.
She was still in place, with her hands at her side. Like she was scared of what more she could do. There was something about the way she stood that was… attractive.
No.
“Do you need my help with any of it?” Lance asked, making me suddenly turn to look at him.
“I'll let you know if I do. For now, I don't want a word outside. Especially not around the other Kings.”
With that, he nodded and headed out.
I continued to follow Elizabeth.
The constant flicker as her eyes changed color. The snapping of her neck from side to side.
She was trying so hard to act invincible, but she was losing that power. She walked like she didn't have any life in her. Like she didn't belong in the school.
Technically, she didn't.
She headed towards the snack shop, and I noticed the way she seemed to swallow as her eyes landed on the blood. But she ended up going for a bottle of orange juice. One that the woman in charge gladly gave to her.
I watched her walk towards the cafeteria, and that was when I finally stepped in.
Fuck, I had been aching to talk to her for some reason. Now that Andy was out of the way, and I didn't have to constantly hear somebody act as my leader, I could finally speak.
Curiosity is a dangerous habit, you know,” I said, and she didn't even flinch. It was almost like she had been expecting me.
“I'm past being careful,” she spoke, and I could tell that it wasn't her speaking. It was whatever was inside her.
And I knew that I was going to have enough fun studying whatever it was.
I walked around her in a circle, and I could smell the energy coming off her. It was interwoven. And only people that paid enough attention to her would have been able to figure it out.
Thankfully, no one at the school really cared about who she was. For now.
Her energy was unstable. And I could smell the ancient power coming off her.
For just a second, I was fucking proud. I spent years studying magic, and I could identify them. I wasn't King for nothing.
“You're looking for answers, aren't you?” I asked, and I noticed the way her hands went still at her sides. Her fingers were curled around the bottle of the orange juice that it was only going to take nothing for her to lose control.
She was going to lose control with the wrong person. It was going to be fun putting her in her place. I wasn't Lance.
“I'm looking for the truth.” She turned to look at me, and just for a while, I could feel the innocence in her gaze. “Why I'm like this.”
“Those are rarely the same things,” I said, and she didn't smile.
Good.
I walked down the hall, without turning back to see if she was following. I could hear her footsteps behind me immediately.
Smart girl.
I led her towards the school's archives. The one place that the principal had to give me permission to gain access to.
I didn't know why I was letting Elizabeth in, but I knew that I wanted her around.
She knew that I had something she didn't. Of course she was going to follow.
I pushed the door to the archives open, and I was met with the secret passage. Elizabeth has her eyes on me, like she was waiting for me to punch in some kind of code.
Wrong place, sweetheart.
I put my hand on the wall, and magic responded immediately, as the place lit up with those forbidden texts that made my heart race every single time. It was forbidden. That was what made it all the more exhilarating.
The door opened, and I walked inside, looking at the rows upon rows of forbidden books. I smirked at the sight.
I ran my hands against the books, before picking one out, and placing it right on the table in front of her.
Elizabeth read through rapidly, and I noticed the way she stilled.
My smirk grew.
“This is a myth,” she whispered and for some reason, her whispers bounced off the walls.
I didn't blink as I gave her the answers she wanted.
“No,” I answered and for the first time in years, I was glad to use that word.
“So what am I? A weapon?”
I was slightly moved by the fact that she believed me to begin with.
“You're a possibility,” I said and she gritted her teeth.
“That doesn't make it any better.”
No, it didn't.
But it was more dangerous than any lie. And that was the thing about being steps ahead. It gives leverage.
I looked back at Elizabeth. She knew the truth. She had the knowledge.
And now, all the knowledge was going to do, was make her grow.
