Chapter 8 CHAPTER 8: Marked Girl
Chapter 8 CHAPTER 8: Marked Girl
Elizabeth's POV
I turned to look at the three of them, as I waited for answers. Kae was still looking at me with a hurt look. He didn't even deserve to have his eyes on me. But that wasn't the thing I was worried about at that point.
I just wanted answers. Because everything that I heard inside the room had to be wrong. It was even more ironic that I could hear them perfectly. And they wanted to lie to me. What could be so hard to say, that they were practically making a plan to lie?
And Andy. He wanted control. I almost scoffed.
He was the one that I looked at now. He had all the answers that needed.
I noticed the way Lucif licked his lips, like he was trying so hard to hold back a smirk.
“Start talking,” I said, as Andy swallowed so hard that his throat bobbed.
He took a step forward, and I held my own hand in front of me. What was it with trying to touch me? I genuinely wasn't going to be shocked if he tried to make me collapse again. They had done it before, they could definitely do it again.
“Stay right where you are, and give me the answers.”
He gave me a stiff nod. “You're in danger.”
I was supposed to be running around the hall, right? So why the hell was I standing in the same position with an expressionless face, like I didn't just hear something tragic?
“I've always been,” I whispered, and it wasn't a lie. Right from the moment that I was being announced to the crowd as the powerless girl, my fate was already written.
“This is different,” Andy said, and I frowned.
“How so?” I asked, and my feet suddenly seemed more rooted to the floor than they were supposed to be. “You're in danger as well.”
Where did that come from?
I wasn't even given the time to register any of that, as the three guys took a step back.
“What happened?” I asked, and my heart was racing in my chest.
“Something just moved in your eyes,” Lucif said. “Did you feel it?”
“No,” I whispered, and I suddenly felt calmer. Something was wrong. There was nothing about my mood swings that was normal.
The four of us stood there for a few seconds without saying a word.
“If you're not going to explain anything, then I will be going my way,” I said, tipping my chin as I walked away.
I could feel their eyes on my back. And once again, their rapidly beating hearts.
As I walked through the hallways, I could hear the whispers. Somebody must have told the others that I was found almost lifeless in the corridor.
“That's her, isn't it?” One of them asked, and it took a lot for me not to ask what they had heard.
My eyelids were becoming heavy, and I struggled to even keep my eyes open at that point.
I put one foot in front of the other, as I tried to move along. I needed the control. I needed something normal. But my body was refusing to cooperate.
The three kings couldn't have done something to me, could they?
“I saw Mr. Dawson kiss a student in his class,” I heard someone say, making me stop in my steps. There was nobody in my path. So how could I hear the conversation?
I forced myself to move forward. I was imagining it.
As I pushed myself further, I could smell the tears of someone in the bathroom, and I could suddenly feel a certain itch on my skin. I didn't even hesitate to begin my fingers, scratching it like my life depended on it.
My eyes were fixed on my arm, as my skin turned so red that I looked like it was going to draw blood any time soon.
I forced myself to stop, with tears in my eyes. As soon as I stopped, there was a flicker of light right on my arm. A straight mark that glowed gold.
Immediately I blinked, it was gone.
“What the hell?” I whispered. “It can't -”
“Hey,” I heard somebody say, and I looked up just in time to see the vampire seniors that had blocked my path.
I swallowed hard. They were known for not showing any mercy.
“I didn't do anything,” I said in an attempt to sound soft. But my voice came out sharper than it was supposed to.
They didn't even look threatening. If anything, they looked cautious. And that was a thousand times worse.
“We just want to talk,” one of them said, and I frowned.
“No,” I said. Where the hell was all this courage coming from? And why was I saying the wrong things?
They cocked their eyebrows, and my chest tightened. Something was warning me. Like whispers in my head.
The first vampire reached out for me, and like the spread of light, I pushed his hand away, grabbing his own arm instead.
My eyes were wide. I didn't just do that. But at the same time, I was holding on to his arm. So there was that.
He attempted to grab my shoulder, and I pushed him back with such force, that his back slammed into the locker behind him.
My eyes are even wider, and I looked at the other vampires. They hesitated. It was almost like they were trying to figure out their next moves.
I watched them as they slowly backed off. Their hesitation saved me. Whatever happened just now, couldn't happen again.
My eyes were fixed on them, as they walked away, going to help their leader
I stood there in the hallway, breathing hard as my hands were balled into fists at my side.
This was wrong. So wrong.
My heart was racing in my chest and for the first time in my life, I didn't feel weak. Rage was flooding through my veins for no reason known to me.
I looked towards one of the windows facing the courtyard, just in time to see Lucif. He had a smirk on his face.
One that looked more than satisfied.
