Chapter 184 Don’t Expel Me

Chapter 184 Don’t Expel Me

Ever since Rona Corporation merged under Wilson Corporation, Amelia had been swamped with resource integration.

Late into the night, she was still in her office, buried in paperwork.

Just then, the door swung open.

A figure walked in slowly.

Amelia assumed it was Hannah and gestured toward the cup beside her without looking up.

"Perfect timing. I'm dying of thirst."

The sound of water pouring followed, and the cup was filled to the brim before being placed directly in front of her.

Amelia looked up, about to say thank you, when her expression froze.

"What are you doing here?"

Her dark eyes reflected the man's strikingly handsome face.

William stood before her, looking utterly wounded.

"If I didn't come find you, would you ever come find me?"

Amelia had genuinely been swamped lately. Hearing the hurt in his tone, it was obvious he was upset.

"I was planning to see you once things settled down. Merging Rona Corporation into Wilson has been a lot of work."

William remained unmoved.

Amelia set down her documents, walked over, and tugged at his collar. "I know I've been neglecting you. I'll make it up to you."

Suddenly, an arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her close.

William's breath warmed her face, hot and teasing.

His deep gaze locked onto hers as he spoke softly.

"How are you going to make it up to me?"

His voice was low and magnetic.

In the quiet, late-night office, it sounded especially captivating.

Amelia leaned against his chest, lips curving slightly. "How do you want me to make it up to you?"

William leaned in closer, narrowing the distance between them.

"What do you think?"

Their eyes met.

The air between them grew thick with tension.

Just then, Amelia's phone rang, urgent and insistent.

This time was different.

The call was from the hospital.

Amelia's heart leapt into her throat.

If her father was fine, the hospital would never call.

She answered quickly.

"Ms. Wilson, your father's condition isn't good. You need to come to the hospital right away."

The doctor's voice was grave.

In an instant, Amelia felt her legs go weak.

The two of them rushed to the hospital immediately.

By the time they arrived, Oliver had already been wheeled into the emergency room.

Amelia stood outside, staring at the glaring red light above the door. Her hands clenched tightly as anxiety churned inside her.

She prayed her father would be all right.

Before long, the door opened.

A nurse wheeled him out toward a recovery room. Amelia grabbed the doctor, urgently asking for details.

"The patient experienced cardiac arrest due to an incorrect dosage. It's highly likely he took the wrong amount of medication. I've reviewed the situation—Mr. Wilson took one extra pill, which caused this."

The doctor sighed, looking at Amelia with sympathy. "Ms. Wilson, I know you've been busy with work lately. But you still need to keep a close eye on your father's condition. If a family member had been present, this kind of mistake wouldn't have happened."

Yes. How could this have happened?

How could the dosage be wrong?

Amelia's heart pounded.

If it hadn't been caught in time, Oliver could have died.

She rushed back to the hospital room.

Suddenly, a shadow dropped to its knees in front of her.

Amelia looked down.

It was Tony.

"Ms. Wilson, this is all my fault. I didn't take proper care of Mr. Wilson. I failed you. Please, you have to forgive me!"

He looked utterly remorseful.

Before this, if Amelia hadn't known his true identity, she might have chalked it up to an honest mistake.

People make errors. She might have forgiven him.

"You're his personal assistant. How could you make this kind of mistake?"

Amelia's face was stern as she scolded him. "Do you realize that because of your carelessness, my father almost died? How can I keep an employee like you? I'll give you three times your salary as severance. Starting today, you don't need to come back."

Tony's expression shifted instantly. He grabbed onto Amelia's leg.

"Ms. Wilson, I was wrong. Please, just give me one more chance." His voice was sincere.

Amelia wavered for a moment.

Was this man, on his knees begging for forgiveness, really Eric?

Could he really go this far just to get revenge on her?

In that instant, Amelia wanted nothing more than to rip off his mask and expose him.

But she couldn't. Not yet. She still didn't know what he was planning or what he might do.

Keeping him close, under her watch, gave her room to maneuver.

If she fired him, he'd disappear into the shadows.

It's easy to dodge a spear in the open. Much harder to avoid a knife in the dark.

"Amelia..."

Oliver's weak voice came from the bed as he slowly opened his eyes.

"Don't blame Tony. He really didn't mean it..."

"Dad, how can you still defend him at a time like this? He gave you the wrong dosage. You almost died." Amelia bit her lip, clearly frustrated.

Oliver sighed. "What are you talking about? Tony isn't an outsider. He's been my right hand. I've relied on him this whole time."

Amelia looked unconvinced but said nothing.

Oliver turned to Tony.

"Don't take what she said to heart. I've spoiled this girl since she was little—she doesn't know how to watch her words. You've been a great help to me. So you made one mistake. Just learn from it and move on."

His words were magnanimous.

Tony's eyes welled up with emotion.

"Mr. Wilson, I swear this will never happen again."

He raised three fingers, about to make a vow, when Oliver stopped him.

"All right, all right. I just got out of the ER and I'm parched. Go get me some water."

Tony nodded eagerly and hurried off.

At that moment, Amelia caught a look from Oliver.

Between father and daughter, some things didn't need to be said.

"Did you come alone?" Oliver asked curiously.

Amelia found the question odd.

He didn't usually ask that. Why now?
