Chapter 179 File Content
Chapter 179 File Content
Over the following period, Amelia entrusted Tony with all documents intended for Oliver, including some rather important files.
Meanwhile, news arrived from the hospital—Victoria had regained consciousness.
Bodyguards remained stationed outside the neonatal ICU. During this time, someone had indeed attempted to take the baby under the guise of a routine check. Fortunately, the bodyguards noticed in time, and fearing arrest, the intruder fled immediately.
Amelia's concerns had been justified—Albert was still determined to take the child.
After handling company matters, Amelia headed to the hospital.
Victoria had survived the ordeal, but a scar now marred her face—a vivid red line running from her lower lip to her ear, held together by over a dozen stitches.
Her pallid face bore the livid, grotesque scar. Wearing an oversized hospital gown, she lay in bed looking haggard. Gone was her former glamour, replaced by wretchedness and misery.
When Amelia entered the room, the assistant was feeding Victoria soup.
Seeing Amelia, Victoria's face lit up with surprise.
"What brings you here?"
Amelia set down the fruit basket she'd brought, smiling. "I came specifically to visit you. How are you feeling now?"
Victoria gave a bitter smile. "Better than before, though my body still aches terribly. The doctor came by this morning during rounds and said my body will need at least six more months to recover."
"A hundred days to heal broken bones and torn muscles—there's no rush." Amelia sat beside her, looking at Victoria's condition with genuine pity. "What are your plans for the future?"
"The future?" Victoria murmured to herself.
Since the accident, she'd decided to leave the entertainment industry. After all, the money she'd earned was enough to last a lifetime.
She'd simply been greedy for fame and fortune, addicted to the spotlight of stardom, always wanting to maintain that elevated position.
This incident had been a trial by fire. Victoria had gained clarity—from now on, she only wanted to live a quiet, stable life with her child.
She didn't say it aloud, but Amelia could read it in her eyes. She yearned for peace.
At that moment, an unwelcome visitor appeared at the door.
Amelia's bodyguard immediately blocked the entrance.
"I'm sorry, you cannot enter this room."
The commotion at the door drew everyone's attention inside.
Amelia turned to look and was taken aback to find Albert standing there. Her expression shifted.
She truly hadn't expected Albert to be so obsessed with the child that he'd brazenly show up at the hospital.
"Ms. Wilson, shall we talk?" Albert stared directly at Amelia.
Coming to the hospital to find her?
Amelia glanced at Victoria, whose face had gone ashen. Clearly, she harbored an inexplicable terror of Albert. She bit her lip, her entire body trembling involuntarily.
This was proof enough that Albert had done unspeakable things to her.
"What do you want to discuss? You can say it here."
Albert frowned, displeasure crossing his features. "Some things are for your ears only."
Amelia looked at Victoria, then said to the assistant, "Take good care of her."
She turned and left the room.
The hospital rooftop.
After they arrived, Albert dismissed his men, and Amelia had her bodyguard stand at a distance.
On the empty rooftop, only the two of them remained, staring each other down.
A dark glint flashed in Albert's eyes. "Ms. Wilson, what will it take for you to give me the child?"
"Your child?" Amelia found this absurd, her voice dripping with mockery. "How could it possibly be your child?"
Albert clenched his fists, speaking with forced patience. "This child is very important to me. If you're willing to give me the child, I'll do anything you ask."
Amelia narrowed her eyes. Important to him?
She knew someone as arrogant as Albert would never willingly compromise with anyone.
There had to be something she didn't know about.
Seeing Amelia's silence, Albert assumed the negotiation might proceed smoothly. He lowered his voice. "I can tell you a secret."
A secret?
Amelia raised an eyebrow.
So he planned to trade a secret with her.
However, he didn't understand Amelia. What she hated most was being threatened by others.
Amelia turned to leave.
"Amelia, this secret concerns your father. Don't you want to know at all?"
Amelia's departing footsteps halted.
She turned back to look at Albert. "What do you mean?"
Albert continued playing coy. "Do you know the true identity of that person by your father's side?"
Tony?
That was Amelia's first thought.
Albert chuckled. "As long as you agree to give me the child, I'll tell you everything."
If this had been about herself or the corporation, Amelia would never have chosen.
But now...
"Fine."
Amelia agreed readily. Just as Albert's face lit up with delight, Amelia added, "However, I must verify the information you give me first."
Seeing Amelia's willingness to negotiate proved there was room for compromise.
He needed this child. He had no choice but to agree.
"I accept."
Then Albert waved his hand. One of his men stepped forward with a file and handed it to Amelia.
"This cosmetic surgery clinic was opened with my investment under my name. Just recently, I happened to see him at the hospital undergoing reconstructive surgery. Tell me—why would someone with a ruined face deliberately get a new one and infiltrate your inner circle? What could his purpose be?"
Amelia opened the file. The moment she looked at it, her pupils contracted sharply.
Though she'd previously suspected Tony's identity and had even mentally connected the two men, Tony and Eric seemed worlds apart!
It was precisely because of this that she'd dismissed her suspicions.
But seeing this file now, Amelia's brow furrowed tightly.
She'd been wondering why Tony would leak the corporation's internal secrets. Logically, there was no grievance between them.
But now, seeing this cosmetic surgery file, Amelia understood completely.
Eric would stop at nothing to get his revenge on her.
"My secret is worth it, isn't it?" Albert smiled.
No wonder Albert had dared to come find her alone.
This was why.
Amelia tucked away the file. She said nothing, but her silence acknowledged Albert's words.
She gave Albert one long, penetrating look before turning and walking away.
Soon, Albert's men clustered around him.
"Mr. Albert, Ms. Wilson took what you gave her. She shouldn't oppose you anymore, right?"
Oppose him?
A cold smile curved Albert's lips.
