Chapter 178: Uncle Kills Someone
Seeing Dylan's growing anxiety, Jenny's eyes gleamed with even more amusement.
"Mr. Evans, you know information gathering is my specialty. This kind of thing? It's just time-consuming and labor-intensive for me—doesn't mean I can't dig it up."
Dylan reached for his coffee, appearing composed, but his hands trembled uncontrollably.
To him, that secret from years ago was buried deep.
If anyone found out, his entire empire would crumble.
"What exactly are you getting at?"
"I want to know how much this secret is worth to you. You know what I do—I collect information and sell it. Plenty of people would love to know what really happened back then. If I let just a little hint slip, don't you think others might offer me more than you would?"
Jenny's tone was casual, but every word dripped with menace.
Dylan remained silent.
His face betrayed no emotion, but soon he made his move.
He stood up and began pacing.
Jenny rose as well, speaking unhurriedly. "Mr. Evans, my time is limited. As for this file in my possession—if you want it, I'll hold onto it for you. If not, well, I always follow the money when interested buyers come calling."
With that, Jenny turned to leave.
Dylan watched her retreating figure, his expression darkening.
In the next instant, he grabbed the ashtray from the coffee table and hurled it viciously at the back of Jenny's neck.
Jenny didn't even have time to react. Her body convulsed violently before she collapsed to the floor.
And Kelly, standing outside the door, witnessed every horrifying second.
She stood frozen, her entire body shaking.
What had she just seen? Dylan had just killed someone!
Dylan seemed to sense he might have an audience. After knocking Jenny unconscious, he quickly moved to the door.
He cracked it open, checking carefully for any witnesses. Satisfied the hallway was empty, he closed it again.
Kelly had ducked into a corner nearby.
She pressed her hand against her chest, covering her mouth. She couldn't make a sound—if Dylan noticed her, she'd be finished.
Three days later.
Amelia received some underground intelligence. Rumors about their corporation's leaked confidential information were spreading everywhere.
"Ms. Wilson, there's chatter all over the industry about our internal files. Some companies have already started developing their programs based on our template," Hannah said, frowning.
Amelia appeared calm. "The cloud-based program we're developing is unique in the industry. If someone can match our progress and develop this program, it would give them tremendous market potential."
Amelia analyzed the current market situation rationally.
The cloud program their corporation had been developing cost hundreds of millions. If someone replicated their data, they'd essentially be handing their competitors a gift.
"Ms. Wilson, I've had people collect market program data. What we found matches our internal files by at least eighty percent."
"The master template must have been leaked. Ms. Wilson, we have a mole."
A mole?
Amelia's lips curved slightly. She'd known all along there had to be a traitor.
As for who that traitor was, she already knew perfectly well.
"Hannah, compile all the obsolete data from the R&D department," Amelia said calmly.
Hannah looked curious but quickly caught on.
Amelia always had her own methods.
She soon gathered the unwanted data from R&D onto a flash drive. When she brought it to Amelia, Amelia didn't take it.
"Hannah, sell these files."
Hannah thought she'd misheard.
But Amelia looked absolutely certain.
"You're wondering why I'd have you sell the files?"
Hannah nodded.
Amelia spoke slowly. "Since rumors about leaked documents are already circulating, let's go big."
Hannah thought this was rather bold, but Amelia had the courage and determination. Nothing she set her mind to ever failed.
Soon, under Amelia's direction, Hannah released the files.
In an instant, news of Wilson Corporation's security breach sent shockwaves through the industry.
The news quickly reached Oliver's ears. In his fury, his condition worsened, and Amelia rushed to the hospital the moment she heard.
Oliver lay in his hospital bed, the oversized patient gown hanging off his pale frame.
"Dad." Amelia's nose stung with emotion as she hurried over.
Oliver looked at his daughter, his expression grave. "Amelia, I heard about it. The data—is it really..."
"Dad." Amelia gripped Oliver's hand, speaking with conviction. "I'll handle this. Don't worry."
Oliver sighed, his voice heavy. "Sweetheart, how can I not worry? That file is so important."
Oliver knew the corporation had spent considerable time, energy, and resources developing this file.
The thought of it being leaked cut him like a knife.
Tony, standing nearby, offered warm reassurance. "Mr. Wilson, no one wanted this to happen. I'm sure Ms. Wilson has already taken measures. Please don't worry."
Oliver looked at Tony with appreciation. "I'm grateful you've been by my side lately. I've seen your work capabilities firsthand. Now that my condition has worsened and I can't handle many things myself, I'll be entrusting them to you. Tony, are you up for it?"
Tony froze momentarily, clearly not expecting such a decision from the chairman.
After recovering from his surprise and delight, he quickly composed himself, his expression filled with determination.
"Mr. Wilson, you can count on me. I'll do my absolute best."
Oliver patted Tony's hand and turned to Amelia. "From now on, Tony will act as my proxy. Amelia, you can confidently delegate to him."
Amelia smiled slightly. "I can tell you're very capable. Otherwise, my father wouldn't trust you so much."
Tony scratched his head bashfully.
Then father and daughter exchanged a knowing look.
