Chapter 180 Clues Have Been Found
Chapter 180 Clues Have Been Found
From the beginning until now, Albert had been watching Amelia's expression closely. The gift he'd given her would definitely prove useful.
If Amelia still didn't know what was good for her, he couldn't be blamed for what came next!
"Go. Keep tabs on Amelia. I want to know her every move in the coming days."
After returning, the moment Amelia entered the hospital room, Victoria looked at her with hopeful, expectant eyes.
"Amelia, what did he say?"
Victoria clutched her hands tightly together.
She was terrified that Albert might have convinced Amelia to take her child away.
Though she hadn't wanted this baby initially, after ten months of pregnancy, how could she bear to part with it?
"Actually, there's something I need to tell you."
Amelia walked over to Victoria's bedside and leaned down to speak. Suddenly, Victoria's expression changed.
"What did you say?" Her eyes turned red as she stared at Amelia, her breathing becoming uneven.
Amelia's tone was measured. "The child won't benefit from staying with you. I'll arrange a better situation for the baby."
"No!" Victoria gripped Amelia's hand desperately, her voice pleading. "Amelia, this child is everything to me, my whole world. You can't do this! I'm begging you! Please!"
Amelia pulled her hand back expressionlessly, looking at Victoria with complete detachment.
"When I first helped you, it was because I saw your value. If you agree to cooperate with me, once you're discharged, I'll arrange for you to join an entertainment company and make you the hottest celebrity again. If you refuse, I'll take your child, and I won't care what happens to you."
Victoria's face filled with utter despair.
Without another word, Amelia turned and left the room.
The instant she opened the door, Victoria leaped from the bed like a madwoman and lunged at Amelia.
"No one can take my child! No one!"
Just as she was about to reach Amelia, two bodyguards rushed in and shielded Amelia.
How could the weakened Victoria match two bodyguards?
They pushed her back onto the bed.
Amelia turned around, standing in the doorway with an air of superiority.
"What right do you have to challenge me now?"
With those contemptuous words, she left without another glance at Victoria.
This entire scene was witnessed clearly by someone monitoring from a corner.
Naturally, the information was promptly relayed to Albert.
It seemed that file had swayed Amelia.
Things would be easier now.
After leaving the hospital, the first thing Amelia did was have Hannah investigate Albert. She needed to know why Albert had suddenly changed tactics so drastically.
He wanted the child badly enough to negotiate with her this way.
Hannah quickly uncovered the reason.
The investigation revealed something shocking.
Albert's wife, Joanna, had cancer and was hospitalized receiving chemotherapy.
All of Joanna's assets came from her family. Once she died, Albert, as the primary heir, would logically inherit everything.
But Joanna's father disagreed. Since they had no children, he refused to hand the family business to Albert, an outsider.
So he and his wife discussed adopting a child.
But Albert would never let his fortune fall into the hands of a child with no blood relation to him. That's why he'd had Vincent use blackmail to coerce Victoria into pregnancy.
Recently, Albert's wife's condition had worsened. If she died before they adopted a child, the assets wouldn't fully belong to Albert.
That's why Albert was desperate to get this baby by any means necessary.
Amelia now understood the full picture.
"Ms. Wilson, how should we handle this next?" Hannah asked.
"Don't worry, I have a plan."
Amelia narrowed her eyes.
From the very beginning, she'd had a complete strategy in mind.
Eric had transformed into Tony to take revenge on her, leaking Wilson Corporation's secrets and stirring up turmoil in the industry.
Amelia had even fanned the flames, making everyone in the industry scramble for the leaked files.
And Albert, desperate for the child, had given her those very files.
A man as calculating as Eric—once he knew his identity risked exposure, there was nothing he wouldn't do before achieving his revenge.
What she needed to do was release information that could potentially expose his identity.
Suddenly, Hannah's phone rang. After answering, her expression turned serious.
She looked at Amelia. "Ms. Wilson, the investigation you requested has yielded results. The leak originated with Jenny. She released this information in the industry. Jenny's real identity is as a corporate spy—her entire business model depends on this. And she seems to have disappeared recently."
Disappeared?
Amelia raised an eyebrow slightly.
By all logic, someone like Jenny would have her own methods of self-preservation in the industry. She couldn't just vanish without a trace.
"What's the latest on Jenny?"
"Apparently, after going to Rona Corporation, Jenny disappeared. Also, my people uncovered something else—Jenny seems to know firsthand information about Cecil's death."
Amelia's expression grew grave.
If Jenny had disappeared because of the Wilson Corporation leak, it completely contradicted her previous collaborative relationship with Dennis.
She definitely wasn't someone who'd run from trouble. So her disappearance was likely forced.
She'd vanished after going to Rona Corporation. Amelia couldn't help thinking of past events. Could Cecil's death be closely connected to Rona Corporation's chairman?
Quickly, Amelia had Hannah call Lawrence and explained everything.
Lawrence shared what he'd recently discovered.
Following the leads, they'd learned that years ago, Rona Corporation's chairman had repeatedly made Cecil steal secrets from other companies, with Cecil working as a mole.
He'd target promising companies, then acquire them when they neared bankruptcy, legitimately taking over their assets.
Amelia couldn't help connecting this to how Cecil had approached her grandfather years ago.
The incident back then had very likely been orchestrated by Rona Corporation's chairman.
But why had he died?
