Chapter 100.2
Chapter 100.2
Once Amy and Ryder had joined us in the office and were filled in on the new revelations, I asked them if they would be okay taking the blood oath, to which they agreed without hesitation.
Grimm retrieved the knife he had previously used to swear Declan into the pack.
“Okay, the key is to be specific in your words to avoid any loopholes in the oath,” Grimm coached me.
“Since we’re all kind of doing this together, how about we brainstorm what would be the best,” I suggested.
“I don’t think that’s usual procedure for a blood oath, but sure,” Declan offered, “How about ‘with this oath, you swear to maintain the secrecy of my true identity’?”.
“No, true identity isn’t specific enough,” Sera said, “I think it should be lineage, not identity.”
We know what the oath should be, Tala interrupted in my mind.
We do? I asked.
I felt her eyeroll, Yes. There is a special oath for the descendants of the goddess. This isn’t the first time this had happened in over one thousand years, you know.
Okay, sassy pants. I retorted, giving her an eyeroll of my own.
I don’t wear pants, she said.
Sassy fur, then!
I huffed out loud, drawing attention from the rest of the room.
“Uh, sorry,” I blushed, “Convo with Tala. Um, she says there is a special oath for this situation.”
“Oh, well that make it easier, who’s first?” Ryder said, clapping his hands together.
“I am,” Grimm said, stepping forward and handing me the dagger.
“Tala says we don’t need the knife,” I reply, taking It from him and returning it to the box on the desk behind me.
I take Grimm’s hand in mine, palm up, and take a breath to steady myself.
“Do you, Grimm Pax, vow to keep the identity of the descendant of the moon goddess secret in order to protect her safety and the safety of those she holds most dear?”
“I do,” he replied.
I extended one claw and drew a line across my palm, then one across his, the blood seeping out of the wounds. We clasp hands, joining the blood and sealing the bond. Seraphina covered our clasped hands with one of hers and muttered a short incantation. It felt like electricity fizzled around our hands for just a second, before Seraphina stepped away and the vow was made.
“Well, that was easy,” I said, “Who’s next?”
We repeated the process with everyone in the room except Father Sean. Being human, the blood oath would not work on him, so instead, we did a magical oath with Seraphina’s help.
After the others left, I flopped myself onto the sofa in Grimm’s office with a dramatic sigh.
“What’s wrong, little mate?” Grimm asked, lifting me up so he could sit and position my head on his lap, using his thigh like a pillow while he stroked my hair.
“I knew it was too good to be true.”
“What was?”
“The few days we had after the hunters were gone when everything was just normal,” I answered.
“Nothing has changed, really. There is no one actively trying to kidnap or murder your family and friends.”
“That we know of,” I groaned.
“Relax love, everything will be okay.” Grimm tried to reassure me.
I sat up and spun around to face him, crossing my legs on the couch, “Will it? You heard what they said. There are hundreds or possibly thousands of prophecies about me that could give people dumb ideas. I don’t want to spend my entire life worried if strangers at the store want to murder me. And what about when we have pups? What will we tell them? When will we tell them? And if we have a daughter, she will be a descendant and just as much of a target as me. We will have to train her to be a warrior from a little age!”
Grimm grabbed my shoulders and pulled me to him for a forceful kiss. As his tongue pushed into my mouth and met mine, I felt my shoulders relax and my thoughts narrows in on the feeling on my mate’s skin on mine instead of the swirl of panic and worry that had been there moments before. A small sigh escaped me as he pulled away.
“You were spiraling,” he offered in explanation. “Better now?”
“A little,” I confessed.
“I love that you’re so worried about our future pups, but I promise you, they have a whole pack who will be looking out for them every second of the day. They have a family of our friends who will be their aunties and uncles and who will love and protect them just as much as we will. We will face and overcome whatever comes up.” He stroke my cheek with his thumb gently as he spoke, the caress calming me. “If I had any doubt before, knowing who you are now makes me positive that the goddess put us together for a reason, Cam. She would not have paired her descendant with a mate who cannot protect her. She brought you to me because we are supposed to be together and face life and everything it throws at us together.”
Tears were clouding my vision at Grimm’s words. His determination and strong belief in us as a couple.
“I love you,” I whispered, leaning my forehead against his shoulder.
“I love you, too,” he replied, stroking my back.
