Chapter 101
Chapter 101
Suddenly it was the day before the ceremony and the pack was buzzing with excitement. Under Seraphina’s scrutiny, a beautiful pergola covered in vines and sheer white fabric was being decorated. Grimm and I would stand under it for the ceremony.
Chairs were being set out for all the pack members to attend, tables were organized on the lawn, stretching out from the patio. The huge firepit where the meats would be cooked was being constructed at the edge of the patio, where the kitchen staff didn’t have to travel too far from the kitchen inside to reach.
The pack house was being scrubbed sparkling clean from top to bottom, and the dining room was full of she-wolves helping Amy make flower arrangements for the tables and little boutonnieres for every guest to wear. Seraphina had charmed all the flowers that were cut for the ceremony so they would stay looking perfectly fresh for a full 48 hours. She refused to have a single wilted petal present.
And I was… bored. Seraphina, Amy, and Amy’s mom had everything so well planned and organized that I had nothing to do. I was supposed to be “resting and relaxing”, but after a nice bubble bath and face mask and going into town to get my nails done, I was relaxed and tired of resting. I was also too excited and anxious to focus on reading.
I snuck down to my office to see if I could occupy myself with some work to make the time pass.
Opening the door, I was surprised to see Grimm sitting at my desk working on his laptop.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, closing the door quietly behind me.
“I could ask you the same thing,” he countered, “Aren’t you supposed to be relaxing?”
“You’re in my office. You can’t question what I’m doing in my own office.” I argued.
Grimm sighed, “Declan and Ryder told me I needed to stop working and rest up for tomorrow. I told them that was stupid and then they kicked me out of my office so I snuck in here to work instead.”
I bit the inside of my cheek to keep myself from grinning too broadly.
“I see,” was all I said.
“What about you?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I sighed and flopped into the armchair in front of my desk. “I got bored relaxing and snuck down here to do some work to pass the time.”
Grimm laughed, but made sure to keep his voice down as to not alert anyone we were in the office. “This is ridiculous. I’m the Alpha, you’re the Luna, and we’re resorting to sneaking around to do work instead of relaxing.”
Suddenly, I heard footsteps down the hall.
“Someone’s coming this way,” I hissed to Grimm.
Ryder! Grimm linked me. Duh, that would have been more quiet than whispering to him. Over here, quick. Grimm directed, holding his hand out to me and pulling me down on the floor, hiding us behind my desk.
What are we doing? I asked.
He keeps coming by and poking his head in to make sure I’m not in here. He doesn’t actually come in the room though, so hiding back here works.
Grimm, I said, this is ridiculous.
I was ready to stand up from behind the desk and confront Ryder. Who are Ryder and Amy to force their alpha and luna to relax if we don’t want to. Despite my inner determined thoughts, the second the door cracked opened, instead of standing up and confronting Ryder, I grabbed onto Grimm and buried my face in his chest like a toddler trying to hide.
We waited, hiding behind the desk, until we heard Ryder’s footsteps fade away down the hall.
Grimm rose up and peeked over the top of the desk.
Oh no, he left the door open this time, Grimm said, ducking back down.
So we’re stuck here behind my desk? I asked.
Grimm shrugged, Guess so. Good thing you picked a big desk.
Open that bottom drawer behind you, I instructed. Grimm gave me a quizzical look, but did as I said. His eyes lighting up as he saw the contents of the drawer.
You have a secret snack drawer! He said with glee.
I put a finger to my lips, reminding him to be quiet, as he removed a snack size package of cookies and passed it over to me before getting one for himself.
We spent the next three hours hiding behind my desk, snacking, giggling quietly, and chatting through our mind link. Honestly, it was the most relaxing thing I could have done with my day. Grimm even pulled my feet into his lap and gave me a foot massage which felt spectacular.
The sun was starting to set, and the light in the office was growing dim when we heard footsteps coming back down the hall. Grimm and I stilled, trying to keep our presence a secret again.
“Alright you two, you can come out now.” Ryder’s voice called out from the doorway.
Grimm and I looked at each other like caught children before slowly rising up to our knees and peeking over my desk to see Ryder and Amy standing in the doorway.
“How long have you known we’ve been in here?” Grimm asked.
Ryder looked at him like he had two heads while Amy hid behind Ryder’s shoulder to cover her laugh.
“Grimm. We’re werewolves. I could hear and smell you both in here the first time you hid from me. But you two hanging out behind the desk like weird-os was keeping you both from working so Amy suggested I leave you there.”
“Oh,” I whispered to Grimm. My cheeks blushing as I realized how ridiculous it was for Grimm and I to think we were really hiding all afternoon. Of course Ryder knew we were there.
“We’re idiots,” Grimm whispered back, causing me to break out in a fit of laughter.
“What were we thinking?” I panted out through my laughs. “I forgot I’m a werewolf before, but what’s your excuse?” I laughed, poking my finger into his chest.
“They’re laughing like lunatics. Should we check them for fevers?” Ryder asked Amy as they watched us roll on the floor laughing.
“When you two pull yourselves together, we had a nice dinner sent up to your suite for you so you,” Amy told us.
Finally calming down, the last of my chuckles leaving me as Grimm wiped the tears that had formed in the corners of his eyes, I nodded to Amy.
“Thanks, Ames.” I said.
“I’ll see you in the morning,” she said as she and Ryder turned and headed back down the hall, still shaking their heads at Grimm and my antics.
“Come on,” Grimm said, standing and holding out a hand to pull me up to my feet, “Let’s go have dinner, little mate.”
