Chapter 100
Chapter 100
I put my hands over my eyes, trying to relax my breathing and hurried pulse at this revelation.
“What did Tala say?” Grimm asked, his voice soft and soothing in my ear.
I gulped in breath, “I asked her how she got her name. She said her grandmother named her… her grandmother Selene.”
A shocked silence filled the room. The weight of this revelation falling heavily on us all.
“Hold on,” Declan said, breaking the tension and pulling us all out of our thoughts, “How can Cam be the granddaughter of the goddess? Her mother’s mother was human and her father’s mother was my mother, who was a goddess, goddess rest her soul, but she wasn’t the goddess.”
“Tala’s grandmother is Selene, not Cam’s,” Grimm said. I turned to him, seeing the concentration of thought furrowing his brow. “In some Alpha bloodlines, ones that have been around for centuries, your wolf can be a reincarnation of an ancestor’s wolf. It doesn’t happen all the time, maybe once or twice in a generation at most.”
“How do you know that? I’ve never heard of that?” Declan asked.
Grimm looked up at him, “Because Kieran is the wolf of my ancestor, the founder of the pack, Samuel Pax.”
“Fascinating,” Father Sean mused as he stroked his chin in thought.
“So… there’s no prophecy, right?” I asked the room, “The story by the Wizard of Oz guy talked about the werewolf origin story, and Tala is a reincarnation of the mood goddess’s daughter, but that’s it, right? No prophecy.”
“Well, Tala isn’t just a reincarnation of the mood goddess, you and Tala are connected and for her to be the wolf of the mood goddess’ daughter, you must be a direct descendant of the goddess, Cam.” Seraphina said.
“This is suddenly much bigger than just one prophecy,” Father Sean added, “There are many prophecies and hypothesis about the power and influence of the descendant of the goddess. There hasn’t been a known, living one in, well it must be sixty years at least.”
“Wouldn’t one of my parents have had to be a descendent for me to be?” I asked.
“Her recognized descendants only follow a female blood line,” Declan surprised me by adding in, I didn’t think he would buy into the goddess’ daughter thing like the others considering his position on prophecies. “If it’s through my father’s side of the family, he didn’t have any sisters and his mother died when he was very young. My sister could have been a descendant, but she died too young, she wouldn’t have shows any signs of it because she didn’t even make it to her first shift… It’s possible, Cam.”
“More than possible, I think,” Father Sean added, “Dec, for years I’ve wondered how you’ve survived as essentially a loan wolf, without experiencing any of the negative effects of being lone. If you have goddess blood in you, that would certainly explain it.”
“But I thought only females in the bloodline received gifts from the goddess?” he asked.
“Specific gifts, yes, but the males tend to exhibit special traits and abilities as well.” Father Sean explained.
“Gifts? I don’t have any gifts,” I interjected. I felt like the conversation and all this new information was swirling around the room and getting closer and closer to suffocating me.
“Yes you do,” Seraphina said, “Cam, there is what Father Sean said about Tala not going feral after being locked away for so long, not to mention you were able to pull yourself out of the magical coma after the block broke. Grimm and you shouldn’t have been able to feel the mate bond or recognize each other as mates because of the block on your wolf, but you did anyway. You were able to take on and kill a full dark witch alone. You could shift on your first try with ease. Should I go on?”
“Well – well… No one told me those things weren’t normal!” I argued. I wasn’t sure why I was arguing; maybe it was denial. I got up and started pacing. “Does this change anything?” I asked, cautiously, “I mean with me becoming luna or anything like that?”
“No!” Grimm shouted, “No, Cam. You will be my luna no matter who you or your ancestors are.”
I gave him a small smile, encouraged by his insistence.
“It will change how we keep you and this information safe,” Declan said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“If this gets out… there have got to be hundreds if not thousands of prophecies about the descendent of the goddess and what she can do or mean for wolf-kind. I know they are all shite, but there are many people out there who believe in them, some to a crazy degree, and not all in a positive way.” Declan explained.
I bit my lip, “Do you regret swearing to protect me now?” I asked.
A smile ticked up the corners of Declan’s mouth, “Never,” he said.
“You took a protection oath?” Father Sean asked, turning to Declan, who nodded, “Good on you,” he added.
“I thought you’d be against it,” Declan said.
“No. You’re a protector, Dec. Always have been since you were a lad. It’s what you’re meant to do. I think even more so knowing what we know about Cam now.”
“So now what?” I asked the room, everyone here knowing far more about the goddess and what being her descendant means more than I do.
“We need to look into what prophecies about the goddess’ descendant are out there so we can be preemptive if we need to be, if people find out. We need to find out more about past known descendants of the goddess. We need to fill Ryder and Amy in.” Grimm said, ticking off each item on his fingers.
“Sounds like a lot more research,” I concluded.
“I think Cam should initiate blood oaths with all of us plus Ryder and Amy,” Declan said.
“What’s that?” I asked, not loving the name of it.
“It’s like the oath Declan took to protect you, you swear and seal it with blood.” Grimm said.
“I don’t think that’s necessary,” I replied, “I trust you all with my life.”
Grimm smiled, “It’s not about trust, little mate. If there’s a blood oath, no one can get the truth out of us with torture or an alpha command. It’s basically like magically sealing your lips.”
“I can add an enchantment so it will resist magic compelling or truth potions too,” Seraphina offered.
“You think it’s a good idea?” I asked Declan and Grimm, both of whom nodded without hesitation. “Alright, I guess. What do I need to do?”
