Chapter 160 Humiliated Before the Pack
Chapter 160 Humiliated Before the Pack
“Excuse me, only those with proper clearance may enter the council chamber,” Florence said. He pushed his glasses higher on his nose, standing straight like a guard wolf at the den entrance.
“No problem,” Morrin replied at once.
She lifted her hand and stopped her assistant from snapping back. “Mr Samson, there is no need to stir the pack. As long as this company forms a successful bond with your company, I am satisfied. I own twelve percent of Farrington Corporation. When the pack grows strong, my share grows with it. I am not the sort to squabble over pride.”
The instant Morrin heard Mr Samson address Elena as “boss,” her blood went cold. The truth struck her without mercy. Elena was the true alpha behind Durok Biotech. The real founder.
Morrin kept her spine straight. She refused to show weakness. As long as the elders and leaders of Farrington Corporation believed she was the one who forged the exclusive bond between Durok Biotech and their company, any pressure Elena applied would look like an alpha crushing a weaker wolf.
That image would turn sympathy toward her.
She turned toward Elena. “Miss Elena,” she said softly, “then I will trust the partnership to your capable hands.”
A chair shifted. Dante leaned forward. His eyes followed Director Nicholas and his loyalty to Morrin.
“Miss Elena,” Nicholas said, “does this not feel improper. The exclusive bond with Durok Biotech was started by Miss Morrin. Even if she has not yet joined management, she remains a council member. Shutting her out now looks like cutting ties after crossing into safe land.”
“Hold on,” Samson said, smiling as he stepped in. “What do you mean by saying Morrin started this exclusive bond? Which Morrin are you talking about? The one standing by the door.”
He loosened his jacket and sat and relaxed. "Wasn't aware that our alliance with Farrington Corporation required a third party to begin it. When Morrin visited, was she not introduced as a messenger from this company? Was she not sent by Elena herself?”
Morrin's hands curled tight at her sides. Her nails pressed into her palms. She sensed eyes shifting. She forced her voice steady. “I hold twelve percent of Farrington Corporation. This morning the council accepted me as a director. It is right to state that I'm one of the movers of this great company. No matter what, Durok Biotech and Farrington Corporation will work together. A strong alliance feeds every wolf, does it not?”
“That is not the same,” Samson replied. He spun his chair slowly. “We are here because our founder chose Farrington Corporation. Not because someone claims familiarity with me. Durok Biotech does not form bonds based on empty words. And I do not even know you.”
Morrin's face burned. “Mr Samson,” she asked, “must you push me into a corner like this?”
“I am not cornering you,” Samson shot back. “You cornered me first. You tried to bare my throat before my boss.”
His gaze hardened. “I do not know you. How can you spread the idea that we share a bond? I know this chair better than your scent. I serve as head of Durok Biotech’s American division. I move by my boss's command. Yet you stood before her and claimed only you could secure our five-year exclusive alliance.
What do you expect my boss to think of me? How dare you speak so boldly in front of my boss? Others may think I took gifts or money from you or that you hold my leash.”
Morrin's breathing grew uneven. Panic rippled through her.
Samson twisted open his water bottle and continued. “We all know how the working world hunts,” he said. “Miss Elena trusts me, that's the main reason why I have to clear the air. I will not allow doubt to stain my name between my boss and your company. If suspicion grows, my standing could fall.”
Murmurs spread through the room.
“Did Morrin not claim she knew the founder of Durok Biotech?”
“Did she not know the founder is Miss Elena?”
“She clearly did not. Yet she accused her of stealing her credit. That is laughable.
Now Morrin's reputation stood on the edge of a cliff.
“Earlier,” she said quickly, “when I was asked if I knew the founder of Durok Biotech, I answered. Honestly, I was blind and offended by Dolphus. I apologize. I am sorry.” She lowered her head slightly, then looked up. “Mr Samson, are you tearing me down simply to gain favor with Miss Elena?”
“Absurd,” Samson replied with a cold smile. “You play the wounded wolf to blur the truth. Then answer this. When did you first contact my company? When did we request your proposal? When did we promise that no one else could claim the exclusive alliance?”
Morrin clutched her assistant’s arm, eyes red. “Enough. This is my fault. I should not have stepped into the contract between Durok Biotech and Farrington Corporation. My uncle is the founder. If he wants the alliance, it will form without my wasted effort. I will leave.”
She turned.
“Stop,” Samson said as he rose to his feet. “You kept doing the wrong thing. What image are you carving into the pack’s mind? That you have dealt with Durok Biotech for a long time. That you guided this bond from the shadows.”
His gaze swept the room. “You contacted our company under Farrington Corporation yesterday afternoon. Before that, we already knew our founder would soon join this company as executive vice president.
Morrin stood frozen, her mouth parted, as Samson's sharp words tore through the room. The council chamber felt tighter with tension.
“It is common to see wolves steal praise inside a pack,” Samson continued, his voice rising with force. “But stealing it from our own boss is beyond reason. You speak of sharing words with her. Tell me this. If she stood before you now, would you even know her scent?”
Samson stepped closer to Elena. “Our founder wishes to bond with her own pack. One command would make it happen. Why must an outsider claw and beg to force it through? Does that not sound foolish to everyone here?”
Morrin swallowed hard. Her tongue felt heavy. No sound came from her throat.
“Enough,” Elena said. Her hand lifted, and Samson stepped back at once. “Sit down. We are here to discuss cooperation, not trade insults. Florence, please pass the contract papers to Mr Samson.”
Florence moved at once, carrying the documents forward.
Raphael Farrington's assistant, Nicholas leaned close to Morrin. “Miss Morrin, I will report everything that happened today to the chairman and the council. Also, your actions do not suit the company's policy. By order of the chairman, even if you hold twelve percent of the shares through any means, you will not enter into the management. And once work hours end, you should find your way out.”
Morrin's eyes drifted back to Elena. Her loss today burned deep. All of this happened because she failed to uncover one truth. Elena was Durok Biotech’s founder.
Earlier, when Drake left the building, he had taken a call that carried the scent of Durok Biotech.
“I understand,” Morrin said suddenly. She grabbed her assistant’s arm and turned away.
The moment Morrin stepped out, she pulled out her phone and dialed Drake's number. The call cut. She dialed again. And again. She did not stop.
Only after she slid into her car did Drake finally answer.
“Drake,” Morrin said fast, her eyes locked on the towering Farrington building. “I know that your company is struggling against Durok Biotech. But then, do you know who leads Durok Biotech Company? It is Elena. She is the one driving your company into a corner.
She is taking revenge on you.”
Drake was sitting in a meeting room, while Barrister Marcel and others were beside him. A short laugh escaped his lips. “Is this the story you created to pull me into your fight?”
“Drake, you are blind,” Morrin snapped, laughter edged with rage. “No wonder Elena has played you for so long. Do you think she became executive vice president of the Farrington Corporation by chance? She is the founder of Durok Biotech. She turned it into the next major force after Farrington Corporation in five years.”
Drake's grip tightened around his phone. Memories rushed in. Elena’s steady eyes. Her quiet confidence.
“Today, Mr Samson came to the company pack and declared it openly. Elena is their founder. Soon, Farrington Corporation will sign an exclusive alliance with them. If you doubt me, send someone to check. This truth will spread through the circle fast.”
Morrin paused. Before ending the call, she added one final strike. “So, Drake, if you want to fight back after opening your eyes, we should hunt together. If not, you will never defeat Elena.”
She ended the call without waiting.
Drake stared at the dark screen. The dial tone echoed in his ears before he lowered his hand slowly, as if waking from a trance.
“Durok Biotech,” Barr. Marcel asked, watching him. “Did they respond?”
Drake shook his head. “They said nothing. When will Samson call back?”
“His assistant said he left for Farrington Corporation this afternoon to discuss a project. He will return the call after that.”
Drake's lips pressed into a thin line.
Could it truly be Elena?
“Do not sit and wait,” Drake growled. He stood, phone in hand. “If Durok responds, we meet online. Prepare for the darkest outcome.”
The darkest outcome meant paying Durok Biotech Company thirty million more under the revised contract.
Drake's company doesn't have such money to spend. It's obvious that collapse would follow.
“Mr Drake, where are you going,” Barrister Marcel called as Drake grabbed his jacket.
Drake did not reply. Morrin's words echoed in his head.
He needed to see Elena. He needed to look into her eyes and ask if she truly led Durok Biotech Company.
Drake had just settled into his car when his phone rang again. Cassandra's name glowed on the screen. A heavy breath left his chest before he answered. “Hello, Cassandra.”
