Chapter 159 The Role She Couldn’t Answer
Chapter 159 The Role She Couldn’t Answer
Morrin's eyes hardened the moment Elena pushed back her words. She then spoke with forced control.
“Alright. But Samson will come over this afternoon. And I have been the one in contact with him. So in what role should I meet him? So should I meet him as a board director of Farrington Corporation?”
Elena lifted her gaze, her lips curving slightly, then she asked. “Morrin, what role did you use when you approached them?”. “You should meet Mr Samson in the same role you used when discussing cooperating with them.”
Elena paused, her eyes were sharp then she continued.
“Unless Miss Morrin does not truly know Mr. Samson, and the claim of closeness was only meant to sway the board.”
Morrin's fingers curled. Her plan had been simple. She would use the time before Samson arrived to fill the cracks in her lies, to move first and claim ground. Elena’s words cut that path cleanly.
Before Morrin could reply, Dolphus spoke. His voice was the kind that silenced a pack without effort.
“That is enough. Please, Director Dante, can we end the mid-year report here?”
Director Dante nodded at once, smiling as if nothing unusual had happened.
“Agreed.”
The meeting ended.
As chairs scraped and voices rose. Morrin stepped outside, and she turned to her assistant.
“This afternoon, stay at the entrance. Watch carefully. When Mr. Samson arrives, stop him. He must be guided by me into the meeting hall. Make sure he understands that.”
Her assistant nodded quickly. “Understood.”
Morrin walked away.
Back in the office, Elena closed the door and reached for her phone. She dialed Samson's number.
The call connected.
“What is it, boss?” Samson said. “I am heading to Farrington Corporation this afternoon. Why the call? Should I be polite with them?”
Elena leaned back, her chair shifting softly as she spoke.
“This morning, you said that my company reviewed the proposal from Farrington Corporation. Who handled the discussion on their side?”
There was a short pause.
“She said that her name is Morrin. From the marketing department. Did something go wrong?” Samson responded.
Elena’s fingers rested on the open file before her. The proposal carried no official seal yet. She had already informed Samson of the cooperation. With Morrin's position now clear within the company, Samson had assumed Morrin acted under instruction.
Elena gave a soft laugh.
“Morrin has been telling the board that she is close to you. She claims only she can secure a five-year exclusive agreement with Durok Biotech.”
Silence filled the line.
Then Samson spoke, disbelief clear in his voice.
“Is she serious? I met her once. She stopped me at the company's entrance. Close? That is absurd. Does she not know you are the founder? Remember that your grandfather mentioned your identity at his birthday party. I was there too.”
“Grandfather only told a few trusted directors,” Elena replied. “The rest were unaware. I revealed it today only because my position was questioned.”
“So the board knows now?”Samson asked.
“They know,” Elena said, turning a page. “But doubt still lingers. They may confirm it with you this afternoon.”
“I understand,” Samson replied. “I will take care of it.”
The call ended.
Elena set the phone down. Her expression remained composed, but her wolf sensed shifting tides. She knew that power had been revealed. Reactions would follow.
A knock sounded at the door.
Dolphus entered, carrying two lunch boxes.
The meeting had stretched far beyond expectation and hunger had been ignored,
“It's already late,” Dolphus said, placing the boxes on the coffee table. “We should eat first.”
Elena stood and joined him.
As they ate, Dolphus spoke about the company's current projects, one after another. Expansion plans. Resource flow. Rival movements.
Dolphus planned every step before leaving the company.
As they were eating, Dolphus reached for the last shrimp, cleaned his hands, then lifted her chin calmly.
“Eat well,” he said.
Their gazes locked. She nodded once.
“Okay,” she answered.
“Samson Mitchell will arrive this afternoon. Don't do anything, Morrin. Just allow your grandfather to do the work by himself. I already spoke with the chairman. Nicholas will come today. He will speak on his behalf. Once he blocks Morrin from being part of the management, her twelve percent share holds no bite.”
Elsewhere, Morrin's assistant stayed alert. Messages flew between her and Durok Biotech Company. The moment news came that Samson was close to the company's building, she stood ready below. When the car appeared, she called at once.
“Miss Morrin, I can see Mr Samson's car.”
Pamela rose from her café seat, lifted her bag, and walked fast. Outside, she spotted Samson stepping out, straightening his suit. She moved closer, coffee in hand, smoothing her hair like a chance meeting.
“Mr Samson, I thought you were not coming by this time. I planned to prepare before meeting you. I did not expect such speed.” Morrin stated.
She turned to her assistant. “Go inside. Inform them that Mr Samson has arrived. I will follow shortly.”
Samson raised one brow. This woman knew how to raise her own value. Without the call from Elena, he might have played along blind. He hid his thoughts, followed her inside, then slipped out his phone. A short message went to Elena, stating his arrival and the encounter. He locked the screen and entered the elevator beside Morrin.
Upstairs, Elena read his message while speaking with Nicholas. Another alert chimed from the secretary's office stating that Samson had arrived.
“Let us move,” Elena said. She stood. Nicholas, Florence, and Melvin followed her steps.
They reached the elevator lobby. Senior executives waited with trusted aides.
Recognition spread and greetings followed.
“Miss Farrington.”
“ Nicholas.”
Questions rose. Why was Nicholas here?
Nicholas smiled and said, “The chairman asked me to assist Miss Elena and act on her direction.”
The air shifted. Faces tightened. Nicholas served the chairman for decades. Now he stood behind Elena. The message cut deep.
Where did Dolphus stand now? Who would inherit the pack throne of the company?
Before the conclusions were settled, the elevator doors opened.
Morrin stood inside with Mr Samson. And they were standing close together. The sight sparked whispers. Many believed her bond with Samson ran deep. They assumed the exclusive deal rested on her claws. Some recalled her earlier doubt toward Elena's status as the founder of Durok Biotech. Eyes slid toward Elena.
Elena watched Samson step out beside Morrin. She pressed her lips, reading the scene. Samson Mitchell‘s calm presence always signaled trouble. If he stayed so relaxed beside a schemer, a strike waited.
“Boss,” Samson called, stepping forward.
Murmurs rose.
Samson paused. “Ah no. We are at Farrington Corporation. I should say, Miss Farrington.”
He offered his hand. “Miss Farrington.”
Elena hesitated, then accepted the shake.
Morrin stepped in fast. “Is the meeting room ready. We could escort Mr Samson and speak comfortably there.”
Samson turned to her, eyes narrowing slightly as if confused. “I am unsure about this lady.”
His assistant leaned close. “Is Miss Morrin Farrington.”
Samson nodded. “My mistake. What role does Miss Morrin hold here? I wish to address her properly.”
A senior executive frowned. “Mr Samson, are you trying to tell us that you don't know Miss Morrin? I heard you are close.”
Whispers returned.
“Morrin held ten percent shares. Director title hovered near her name.”
“If she mattered so much, why did Samson forget her place?”
Morrin curled her fingers, hiding tension. She smiled. “If Mr Samson truly supports my position, then, what role suits me?”
Samson slipped his hands into his pockets. “I do not involve myself in internal seats. I never speak for others.”
Elena lifted her hand gently. “Let us move to the meeting room.”
Samson turned at once. “Of course. As you wish.”
Inside the corridor, his tone softened only for her.
At the meeting room door, Elena entered with Samson and selected executives. Melvin and Florence blocked Morrin and her assistant from entering.
Her assistant stepped forward and asked,
“What's the meaning of this nonsense?”
