Chapter 69

*LUNA*

I was dimly aware of how quiet the room had become and how Kayden gripped me trying to get me to calm down but somehow I slip out of his hold and ran out of the ballroom to my room, I made sure to lock the door behind me before collapsing on the floor of my room. Did they recognize me? I couldn't tell, the fear and shock had made me go numb I didn't wait to find out.

I heard a knock on the door coursing me to stand up from the floor instead of getting it, I slumped down on my bed hugging a pillow to my chest, I just wanted to be alone at that moment.

"Luna, will you please open the door? I have to make sure you are okay" I heard Rebekah say at the other side of the door. I felt silly for even thinking it was Kayden, this wasn't a real mate in trouble situation. After much hesitation, I went over to open the door and she immediately pulled me into a hug.

"You made me so worried about you? What happened? Alpha Kayden made sure that no dagger or knife was brought into the room knowing how much it scares you. The last time you went like this was when Sophia tried to injure one of the mistresses" She pointed out leading me back to seat on my bed.

"It's not that" I replied. "I'm fine, I just want to be alone. I don't want to go out there" I informed her blinking back the tears that threatened to roll down my face. I reminded myself that the night was over, that it was never going to be repeated but nothing eased, seeing Heather with the guard today had brought up the fear I had kept locked away.

"You can't stay here. The feast was for you, to introduce you to everyone as Alpha Kayden mate...." I interrupted before she could go on further.

"Alpha this! Alpha that! Does everything have to be about him? This is why I crave my freedom more than anything. Being mated to him is no different from a life of slavery, I don't want to go back out there but I don't have a choice. Tell me how this is better than slavery and I'll wait!" I yelled walking towards the door, when I opened it I was surprised to see Kayden standing outside with an unreadable expression on his fear.

"I...I...I'm on my fear" I shuttered out nervously, I couldn't tell but wondered if he heard the argument between Rebekah and I. Nothing about the way he was looking at me proved that so I tried to relax.

"Readjust yourself and come out there. It is an order" He sneered at me before walking away and that was enough to confirm my suspicions, Kayden had no doubt heard it. I turned to walk back into the room letting the tears roll down my face.

"It couldn't be that bad, no one would say anything to you. I saw Amelia talking to you earlier, does it have to do with something she said?" I knew she was concerned and worried about me but her questions made me flare up in anger.

"The scar on my face? The person who did it is out there along with the man who tried to rape me" I blurted out before I could stop myself. It was the first time I ever told another soul about what happened to me that night.

"What!" Rebekah said, shock written all over her face. "I thought you said you were born with it"

"That was the story I went with, at least the councils knew I did it myself. Everyone thought I did it too so what if I had said the truth? Nothing changed. I mean Miranda knew the truth, Heather had slashed my face in half that night, she witnessed her mate trying to force himself on me but somehow I got blamed and thrown into the basement despite being scared of the dark. Heather came with a few other girls that night. It was also the same night I got over my fear of the dark. The reason why my wolf has been weaker than most Omega wolves" I explained surprised to see Rebekah crying silently.

"That is so horrible! I wish there was a way to make her pay" She snarled. "I'm sorry you had to go back out there" She apologized.

"It's not your fault. I believe I was cursed" I laughed a little at that as she started to help me smooth my make-up out.

"I know but I'm still sorry you still had to go through that"

This time when we went back to the ballroom, I tried my best to put on a brave face even though I was shaking with fear, I look around nervously half expecting Heather and her mate to jump on me, Rebekah lead me to my seat beside Kayden and I cling unto her not wanting her to go but the death stare Kayden fling in her direction, made her hurried away.

"I don't know why you mark me if you hate me so" I muttered under my breath.

"Is the feeling not mutual?" He sneered back at me. "The mating bond has not been complete, you still have not claimed me" The mockery in his voice was clear.

I was dimly aware of someone approaching and I hurriedly got out. "That is something I shall never do!" I retorted.

"A gift fit for the Luna" I jerked around to see who that voice belong to, I froze when it turned out to be Heather stretching a gift towards me. Our eyes met and I could feel surprise flicker in her eyes before she gasped. She snickered at me before leaving to drop the gifts among the rest. "Can I have a word with the Luna?" She asked Kayden.

My heart speed up in fear as her mate appeared beside her. Recalling what I had gone through in their hands, I didn't want to be anywhere close to them. "No!" I choked out flinching when I felt Kayden's arm around my shoulder.

"I think not," Kayden said speaking on my behalf, I looked at him in surprise finally relaxing as the two dreadful couple walk away from us.

"Thank you" I whispered in gratitude.

"Now tell me what the hell is going on" He growled softly under his breath, I open my mouth to tell him nothing but the expression on his face was enough to make that lie die between my lips.
