Chapter 63

The Full Moon

Daisy couldn’t sleep no matter how much Raja purred; she couldn’t stop thinking, what if something goes wrong. What if she loses one of her babies tonight? What if she loses a lot more.

Although she was in the loop of information, she was only allowed to know her role; only Baba Yaga Willow knew the whole picture; she only knew what to look for when it was her turn to play her part.

It all sucked on a Mega scale of suck. She looked over at Noah. He wasn’t sleeping either; they were both staring into the dark silence just before the dawn.

Daisy went into the adjoining nursery and looked lovingly down at their three tiny cubs. She still used the term children, but Noah softly but constantly corrected her telling her to use the term cubs.

When she pointed out that technically there was only one cub, he said they were all his. Therefore, they were all cubs. She liked that a lot; he didn’t care what they were. They were all his cubs, period.

Looking back at her life and how drastically it had changed since last year, she struggled with her art and getting the new business up and running, never even thinking about love and family. She never, at that time, gave even dating much thought.

Little Nicolas was the spitting image of his father, and though it was a little early to tell he would also have his golden-brown eyes, little Blane looked a lot like his grandpa, which made her father very happy.

Little Clara was her mother’s visage, including a pair of huge blue eyes. She had her daddy wrapped around her finger already and her grandpa.

She felt sorry for whatever poor guy came along that tried to date her.

“Don’t worry, little Clara; mom will step in if your daddy shows his teeth too often.”

She touched her babies’ face’s one at a time to reassure herself that they were all ok and alive. She had a terrible nightmare that one of her children would be sick or dying when she woke up on the first day of the full moon.

Strong arms wrapped around her from behind, and she leaned into Noah’s warmth with a small sigh. She wanted it all to be done and over with, with all her family intact and everyone happy.

“Don’t worry, my lovely mate, all will work out for the better; I don’t know how I know this; I just feel it.”

“How does Raja feel about all this?”

“You know how Raja is; he thinks they were being stupid, this coming from him, he thinks that his teeth and claws will fix it all; If not, he will purr them into submission.”

They both laughed and could now hear Raja let out a disgusted sigh as he turned to ignore them.

They looked out the window as the sun rose, deciding that it was time to start the day. They returned to their room to get dressed and eat breakfast before it was time to feed the babies.

Baba Yaga Willow let out a sigh; after all this time, she still couldn’t see everything, no matter how hard she tried. The Hands of Fate move too fast, and in directions she couldn’t always follow.

She was going to trust that everyone would play their roles when needed, and it will all end up for the best. Either way, she would make sure her sister harms no one else ever again.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, we have to wait for the dark again before it can all be over; I have lived eons, and time never bothered me like it is right now.

Strange how being the good guy can be so frustrating; I always found being evil to be easy; no wonder I hide away anymore and don’t bother myself with the problems of the world.

Still, everything that can be done is done; the only thing left is to wait and see if I have done enough to ensure that everyone lives and my sister goes to hell.

6 pm

Everyone was sitting in the dining room. The table before them was filled with all kinds of things that they all enjoyed eating, yet no one had any appetite to eat.

The room was so silent that you could hear a mouse fart; everyone was off in their own little worlds, full of worry and anxiety about what was to come; Michael had instructed the servants to leave things as they were. Perhaps they would feel like leftovers when it is done.

The servants were sent off to their families for the night; there wouldn’t be any interruptions that might cause problems.

So, here they all were around a table; Enid, Daisy, and Michael held one of the babies; Garret looked around the table; as a Vampire, this was not a typical scene. He felt that for the briefest of seconds, time stood still in that moment.

He wished it would stay like this forever, making his immortality more palatable. He was born a Vampire well; he became one when he was fifteen; at that time, you don’t think about the time. You only know that you have a lot of it.

Now that he had lived as long as he had, he understood that immortality wasn’t living forever; it was family and friends, the people in your life that you love to carry your memory.

Then there was the moment that you began to hate your fate and what you were, the moment you realized that your immortality isn’t a blessing but a curse, to watch those you love to grow old and die, knowing that you never will.

He looked over at Enid. They hadn’t talked about it, but he wondered if she let him turn her. He couldn’t think about not living without her. Love is the true immortal; it comes with the pain of knowing that the one you love doesn’t have the time you do and that soon you will be without them.

It was one of the reasons he avoided having relationships. It was simply too painful.

Enid watched Garret as he was lost in thought; she was so happy to have found him and knew she would have him for the rest of her life.

Letting out a sigh, she knew that she wouldn’t be his for the rest of his life. The pain he would feel after she was gone, she could only imagine what that would be like.

She was scared to become a vampire, to be honest; even though she knew quite a few of them, it didn’t look to be all that bad of existence. Still, she didn’t know.

She knew that she would ask him about it soon so they could discuss things and what was expected, and perhaps she would grow brave enough to take up the challenge; she wasn’t getting any younger either way, so it would have to be soon.

Sunset

They all watched as the last rays of the sun fell from the clouds in the sky; the moon was making its way out of the twilight of the earth, the rising beacon of their nightmare to come.

Will stood off to the side, watching everyone and waiting for the cue to come that would finally bring an end to all the strife that this curse had brought.

Just inside the folds of her long skirt, she held the Dagger of Oria, the only weapon that could kill anything, immortal or mortal, shifters, witches, even a God.

She didn’t want to do this, but it was the only way to break the curse and save the child. She knew that it would be the girl child that would die, she was a pureblood after all, and that is too much temptation for the fates of the universe.

They all stood on the cliff’s edge, waiting to see who would fall off first. She hated waiting for this day, but at the same time, the wait that she complained about was nothing now compared to the seconds that ticked away right now.

As the bright full moon gained her position in the heavens, the clock began to chime; there wasn’t a reason for it, though; since it was not on the hour.

They all heard it simultaneously, the slight cough of their baby girl. Her two brothers started to wail out of control, and to all their horror, little Clara was turning blue.

They could all feel the heaviness of evil coming into the room; they knew who it was. Daisy held her baby girl close to her, trying her best to get the baby to breathe.

Willow hoping everyone remembered what to do, moved fast, almost in a blink of an eye; she pulled the dagger out of its hiding place as she was about to stab Daisy right in the neck.

Before anyone else could even react, Noah came out of nowhere to protect his mate.

Before she could stop herself, the dagger was deep inside Noah’s chest.
