Chapter 62

Baba Yaga Willow gave each baby a different gift and a protection spell if her sister decided to cheat and jump on them. There were all kinds of punishments for doing that thing, but she didn’t think that her sister would care; she went this long on revenge.

When she was done, she took notice of the moon cycle. It was three-quarters full; soon, she said to an empty room with a sigh.

Daisy opened the door to the nursery just as Willow was leaving; she smiled at her and waved. Willow guessed it was time for the babies’ dinner. Three other servants accompanied Daisy; one was Enid, the other she had seen around, but she did not know the third.

Willow stopped in the doorway and watched the unknown servant girl for a little bit, and then, just when she thought that maybe she was being paranoid, she felt the energy surge coming from the girl.

Willow went into full Baba Yaga mode. Quicker than anyone could see, she was behind the servant girl and grabbed her by her arm, whipping her around to face her.

The girl smirked; it was as Willow suspected her sister had possessed this girl and somehow got her inside to be the mom’s helper.

“You have no business here, you wicked old screw; it is time to leave!”

Letting out a cackle that made the other helpers gasp…

“Hello, dear sister, long time no see.”

“Tell me, Willow, how fairs our other sister? Have you betrayed her yet? Or are you saving her for a special occasion?”

“Oh, please, you never cared for Juniper, so don’t start to pretend now if you really must know it was on her advice that I betrayed your stupid ass; your fate was your own making, and you know it!”

Willow could see that she scored a hit; the girl’s eyes started to glow red as she shook in rage.

The girl fell to the floor and went into a full convulsion as blood came out of her nose, eyes, and ears; a black mist rose from the girl’s chest and bolted out the window shattering the glass in an explosion of anger around Daisy.

Willow looked down at the girl. It was clear that she was dead, so that was how her sister got more energy. She took the life force from the one she possessed.

Daisy had just picked up Blane and sat down on the loveseat. The Baba Yaga had come back in and was talking with the new helper Amy when all of a sudden, all she could hear was a loud hiss and then the window behind her exploding.

Instinctively she covered Blane to shield him. She felt several needle-like picks hit her back; before she knew everyone was around her, Enid reached under her to take Blane, as the Baba Yaga told her not to move.

Daisy felt a cold icy feeling running along her back as the pain from all the shards of glass subsided. The door banged open, and Noah was there with fury on his face.

He ran over to her and must have decided that she would be alright because the next thing they all knew was that they were dealing with a very angry Tiger.

“HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? WHO DID THIS? SOMEONE BETTER ANSWER ME AND FAST, OR I AM GOING TO START USING MY CLAWS INSTEAD OF SPEECH.”

The Baba Yaga raised an eyebrow at the shifter to say she was ready for whatever he was bringing.

Daisy was a little pissed now; she walked over to Noah and Raja and smacked them on their ass, hard.

“You two need to calm down right now; no one here is responsible for what happened, and as you can see, I am fine; yes, there are holes and blood on my clothes, but the Baba Yaga healed them all.”

“I shielded Blane from the glass. He is doing just fine, and so are Nicholas and Clara.”

Noah visibly calmed down some, but she could tell that until everything was explained, Raja wasn’t going to calm down. That was when the Baba Yaga began to speak.

“My sister had taken over this young girl’s body and slinked her way into being a helper in the nursery. As you can see, it didn’t turn out too well for the girl.”

“When she realized that I wasn’t going to allow her to continue, she drained the poor girl of all her energy and, in a fury, crashed through the window and back under her rock.”

“I am not entirely sure what she was up to, but I can guess she was trying to possess one of the children, but I think the more likely scenario was that she was trying to get information about what we are planning.”

“It was a desperate move on her part; she took a big chance; if I had more time, I could have bound her soul, which would be the end of it all for her.”

“Unfortunately, she was faster than I was and exploded the window as a parting gift.”

“Daisy was sitting directly in front of it and got hit with glass shards, we all acted quickly, and I poured a potion on her back that healed all her wounds. So there really isn’t a need for you to go all wild kitty on all of us women.”

Noah just stared at the Baba Yaga, took a deep breath, and then his eyes lost some of their glow as Raja started to calm down.

Noah pulled Daisy close to him and kissed the top of her head, looking over at his children with relief.

Daisy smiled. She was happy now, even with death swirling around the room. She felt that this moment should be pressed into her memory for all time. After all, she didn’t know how much time she had left to enjoy the quiet of the day.

Michael watched out his windows as the moon went behind the clouds, he always enjoyed the moonlight, but since all the curse business reared its ugly head, he hated it; the moon was three-quarters full, not much longer then.

Every night the moon got a little bigger as if death itself was getting closer, and all anyone could do during this time was wait and watch. It was maddening.

The plan was ready to go, at least his role to play anyway. He didn’t know what the part of any of the others was. He wanted to know everything, so he could fix things at the last minute if he needed to.

That wasn’t to be, though; he felt anxious and jumpy just thinking about what his part was; it was enough to make him want to panic; if he went by that alone, then what was about to happen was going to be horrific he just hoped that it wouldn’t end that way too.

There were the two wild cards to worry about, Noah and Garret. Both had been left out of the loop. He knew how he would feel about that, so he could only imagine what they felt.

Baba Yaga said that at least two witnesses had to be clueless about what was going on so that their emotions could appease the old magic.

He felt like he was playing a sick joke on a friend, one where you know their deepest fears, and you laugh at them for it.

It didn’t sit well, and if things went wrong, it could go awful fast; if he were either Garret or Noah, he would go on a killing spree.

He let out a sigh into the room’s dark; there was one other thing he didn’t like; even if everything went according to plan, he could lose his son-in-law and his best friend’s trust.

He hoped they would understand their role and why it had to be that way.

********************************

She was in a fury of killing rage; how dare her sister interfere yet again. All she was doing was eavesdropping, trying to find out some information; it wasn’t like she was there to hurt anyone.

Her vessel paid the price for her sister making her angry, that last little bit of energy she took was needed; soon, the moon will be in its proper place, and she will live again and again the life she always deserved.

Her curse was not going to be broken, not this time; it was unbreakable and didn’t have any weak points that she could see. Whatever they are planning, it won’t be enough.

Either I take the mother’s body or the babe; either way, I win.

Then I will show the whole world my anger, no one will be safe from my revenge.

The first thing I will do is take my sister’s life. Willow won’t be interfering in my plans ever again.
