Chapter 27: Ricardo vs Giovanni

Morning came without warning, bringing only silence that added to the tension in the air. Sofia woke up in the cold and gloomy basement, the light of a small lamp hanging above creating weak shadows on the wall. Next to her, Ricardo was already sitting with his gaze fixed on the door, his pistol lying on the small table.

"You're awake," Ricardo muttered without turning his head, his voice low and alert.

Sofia rubbed her face, trying to shake off the lingering sleepiness. "What are we going to do today?"

Ricardo glanced at her for a moment before answering. "We're going to start moving. Salvatore has important information, but I need to make sure he's really on our side."

"And if he's not?" Sofia asked, even though she already knew the answer.

Ricardo just shrugged. "If he's not, he won't live long enough to betray us."

Salvatore appeared from one corner of the room, carrying a cup of coffee with a strong aroma. "Don't worry, Miss Sofia. I still intend to help," he said in a casual tone.

Sofia gave him a sharp look. "Then prove it. Give us information we can use."

Salvatore smiled, though the smile never reached his eyes. "Of course. Giovanni is moving one of his most important shipments tonight. If you're quick enough, you can destroy most of his business plans."

Ricardo leaned forward. "The location?"

"The old port at the east end of town. Giovanni has a large warehouse there, but it's heavily guarded. You'll have to prepare for battle."

Ricardo nodded, digesting the information. "And you're sure this isn't a trap?"

Salvatore looked at him thoughtfully. "Believe me, Ricardo, if I wanted to set you up, I would have done it last night. But I know you won't take my word for it. So, take it or leave it."

That night, they prepared. Ricardo checked his weapons, making sure everything was in perfect condition. Sofia, despite feeling uncomfortable, offered her help.

"You don't have to get involved," Ricardo said, looking at her sharply.

"I'm not going to sit idly by while you risk your life," Sofia countered firmly. "I may not be able to shoot, but I can help in other ways."

Ricardo approached her, his expression softening. "Sofia, this world is too dangerous for you. I don't want you to get trapped any further."

"Too late," Sofia replied softly. "I've been stuck since the first night I met you."

Her words left Ricardo speechless. There was something in how he looked at a mixture of guilt, admiration, and something deeper he was trying to hide.

"All right," Ricardo finally gave in. "But stay behind me. Don't try to be a hero."

**The Battle at the Warehouse**

The warehouse was near an almost forgotten harbour, surrounded by dark and silent water. Large lights illuminated the outer area, revealing a group of armed guards standing guard.

Ricardo and Sofia watched from a distance, hidden behind rows of containers. Salvatore stood beside them, looking calm but with eyes that kept watching.

"How many people are inside?" Ricardo asked.

"At least twenty," Salvatore replied. "Maybe more. But they don't expect an attack tonight."

Ricardo nodded, thinking of a strategy. "We need to move quickly and effectively. Sofia, you stay here until everything is done."

Sofia wanted to argue, but Ricardo's stern gaze made her understand that she wouldn't change her mind.

The attack began with a small explosion that confused the guards. Ricardo and Salvatore moved incredibly quickly and precisely, taking out the guards individually.

However, they found something they didn't expect when they reached the warehouse. It was empty, containing only a few wooden crates that appeared to have been abandoned long ago.

"It's a trap," Ricardo growled, gripping his gun tighter.

Before they could react, the warehouse door suddenly closed with a bang, followed by approaching footsteps. Giovanni emerged from the shadows with a triumphant smile on his face.

"Ricardo Moretti," he said in a mocking tone. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to come here."

Sofia, who had remained outside, heard the first shots. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized Ricardo might be in grave danger.

Without thinking, she grabs the gun Ricardo left in the car and runs towards the warehouse.

Inside the warehouse, tension builds as Ricardo and Giovanni face each other, their guns pointed at each other. Outside, Sofia approaches, her hands trembling but her resolve unwavering.

That night, Sofia's decision will change everything.

Sofia approaches the warehouse door cautiously, her steps slow but determined. The sound of gunfire from inside continues to thunder, echoing in the silent night. The gun feels cold and unfamiliar in her grip, but she knows there is no time to hesitate.

She pressed her ear to the door, trying to understand what was happening inside. Giovanni's voice rang out, clearly cracked and full of mockery.

"Ricardo, you're such a fool to think you can take this game from me!" Giovanni laughed the sound ear-piercing.

"This game has long been mine, Giovanni," Ricardo retorted, his tone cold. You just haven't realized it yet."

Sofia held her breath, trying to find an opening to enter without being seen. She knew this wasn't her world, but her feelings for Ricardo pushed her further than she ever imagined.

Ricardo continued to move nimbly inside the warehouse, dodging the shots Giovanni's men fired. Salvatore had already taken out a few, but they were still far outnumbered.

"You should give up, Ricardo," Giovanni said arrogantly, pointing his gun. "You don't stand a chance against me."

"But I have a reason to fight," Ricardo replied, his eyes narrowing. He aimed his shot precisely, taking out the guard who tried to approach him from the side.

Giovanni grinned. "And that's why you lost. You involved too much emotion."

The words burned Ricardo, but the warehouse door suddenly opened before he could respond. All heads turned, and there stood Sofia, hands shaking but determined, pistol pointed at Giovanni.

"Sofia, what are you doing here?" Ricardo asked in an angry and panicked tone.

Giovanni chuckled. "Look at this. Your little girl came to save you."

"Shut up!" Sofia shouted, her voice trembling but firm. "Drop your weapon, Giovanni. Now!"

Giovanni rolled his eyes, then looked at her with disgust. "You don't even know how to use that, little lady."

Sofia does not lower her weapon. She knew she might lose this confrontation but couldn't back down now.

"Try me," she said, her voice more stable.

Ricardo watched the situation intently, trying to find an opening to take control. Seeing Sofia's courage gave him an added boost, but he also worried that Sofia's actions would complicate things.

Suddenly, one of Giovanni's men tried to approach Sofia from behind. Ricardo, who saw that, acted immediately. He fires his gun precisely, taking out the man before he has a chance to touch Sofia.

However, that action made Giovanni move quickly. He pointed his gun at Sofia, and in an instant, everything seemed to slow down.

"Stop!" Ricardo shouted, his voice filled with an emotion rarely seen.

Giovanni smiled coldly. "I'll give you a choice, Ricardo. His life, or your chance to get out of here alive."

Sofia felt her breath catch. She knew Ricardo was between impossible decisions. But before he could think further, she took a bold step.

Sofia dropped the gun, raising her hands slowly. "You don't need to involve Ricardo in this. I'm the one you want, right?"

Giovanni was surprised, though only for a moment. "Ah, what a brave girl. But you're wrong, sweetie. I want to destroy Ricardo. And you are just a tool to achieve it."

Ricardo, seeing the opportunity, launched a swift attack. He knocked Giovanni down with one swift movement, Giovanni's pistol slipping from his hand. In the chaos, Salvatore finished the rest, taking out the last guard.

The tension eased as Giovanni was taken into custody, but the calm was only temporary. Ricardo looked at Sofia with a mixture of anger and concern.

"Why did you come in?" he asked, his voice low but sharp.

"I couldn't just sit still," Sofia replied, her eyes filled with conflicting emotions.

Ricardo approached her, placing his hand on her shoulder. "You were almost killed. I can't lose you."

His words startled Sofia, but Ricardo hugged her before she could respond. "Don't ever do that again."

Sofia could only nod, feeling emotions she could hardly explain.

In the corner of the room, Salvatore only smiled a little before turning his face away. "Maybe you can talk about love later. We still need to get out of here."

With Giovanni captured, the fight wasn't quite over. The criminal underworld they faced would not let things go so quickly. But for tonight, they had a small victory that laid the foundation for new hope.

Ricardo led the way out of the warehouse, Sofia by his side. They know that what happened tonight is only the beginning of something bigger-something that will test their strength as individuals and together.
