Chapter 22 Where we part
Madison's POV
"What's he like? What does he taste like? What does he feel like?"
I looked at her, raising my eyebrow at her in confusion.
"Who are we talking about?"
She rolled her eyes, inspecting her nails. "The Don of course."
Why would she be asking me those kind of questions.
Was she trying to mock me? Or rather, rub whatever they did in my face?
"How would I know?" I asked, my tone harsh.
She eyed me irritatedly. "Look, I'm not going to report you to Claudia or something."
Who even was Claudia?
When she saw my confused expression, she pinched her nose and breathed softly through her mouth.
"Claudia was the lady you met. My mother's best friend? Alessandro's Auntie?" She said, trying to remind me of her.
"Oh" the witch.
I had forgotten her name after the time I met her.
"Yeah. You know she took care of Alessandro and her son when -" She paused, shaking her head. "So he'd do anything she says. He respects her."
"Why are you telling me all these?" I asked carefully, glancing at her.
She shrugged. "Just so you'll know." She placed a cigarette in between her lips. I watched her secretly as she lit the tip with a lighter, letting it burn for a while before putting it off. She took a long drag, shutting her eyes.
Well.
"Do you care?" Her voice was raspy as she spoke.
I shook my head, bringing my side of the window down. We were still in transit to wherever, the road was busy and the air was refreshing.
"Maybe that is why he keeps you around. You're too good." She blew a smoke at my face. Disgusted, I flapped the smoke away from my face.
"I am not good." I glared at her. Whatever perception everyone had of me was wrong. I wasn't good. I had done bad things for my Aunty Linda.
Things I weren't ready to talk about. Yet.
"Yeah right." She scoffed. "If you're not good then why can't you tell me how the Don fucking feels and taste?"
What was her problem with knowing those things?
"If you want to know how he freakinh taste and feel then why don't you check it out yourself? That's if you've not done that." I had the urge to roll my eyes but I held myself.
She snapped her head to me, her eyes cold. "You think I haven't tried?" She snapped at me, her voice sharp. My eyes widened a bit, my heart feeling a bit light.
Does that mean nothing happened in the office between them?
Then she took a drag and puffed out the smoke, speaking again, "It'll happen though. It's just a matter of time. Just after I take care of something."
Suddenly, she started laughing. She'd turn to me and then the laugh would increase.
The hairs on my neck stood, my stomach twisted in discomfort. I knew this wasn't right.
Was it too late to turn back?
When I turned back, there were no cars behind us and the road was quite lonely. Only trailers passed.
Now that was something to think about.
"Where are we going?" I asked her, my face serious.
"Chill. I am not going to kill you." She chuckled. "Especially since everyone knows you went out with me."
Okay that made sense.
My body seemed to relax a bit after she had said that. The rest of the ride were silent and boring.
"First, you'd help me pick all the things you'd like to wear." Kat smiled up at me. The smile didn't reach her eyes at all.
"Me?" I placed my hands on my chest.
"Come on." She dragged us into a store. "Pick."
And just like that, I picked tons of clothing I thought would look good on me. The type I also thought would be found attractive by him.
I didn't know why I had the urge to pick something he'd like.
"This is all?" Kat asked.
I nodded. "For now?" I shrugged, smiling shyly.
I couldn't believe she was about to buy these for me. Not until she spoke.
"Alright. Sit here while I test them all out." She winked at me.
My face fell as I stared at her. I sat there as was told, watching her fit all the dresses, one by one. She asked for a bigger size, because of her bust, whenever the ones I picked didn't size her.
My heart pricked me in my chest. In as much as I hated to admit it, they looked so hot on her like they were tailored to fit just her.
I doubted they would've looked that good on me.
Alessandro definitely wouldn't keep his hands off her. I was sure about that and knowing that made my eyes sting.
"That was fun." She laughed, handing some bags to me. "These are not for you though. You're just holding them." She clarified.
I swallowed hard, following her.
"Why did you let me pick them then?" I couldn't help but ask. I was angry.
She scoffed. "I just wanted to see your fashion sense. I give it to you, they all looked like what Alessandro would love too."
She laughed, walking into another section, picking lingeries. My eyes caught some lingeries that I'd love to have but immediately she looked at me, I diverted my gaze to another.
"You like this?" She picked it up. "I'd get it if you do."
I frowned, not saying a word and also trying not to look at the one I really liked. I didn't have money to get them but I wouldn't want her to get them too.
"You looked at it so I'd take it. It doesn't look bad." She laughed, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
I rolled my eyes. She must think she had gotten me. Funny.
"Now that's all that brought me here." I couldn't see her as she spoke because all her shopping bags were piled up on my hand, up to my face.
"Can you at least remove the one on my face?" I groaned.
"Hmm... Okay." She pulled one away roughly, falling the rest to the ground. "Let her pick it up." She stopped the guard from helping me.
I looked up at her through my lashes, biting back my reply. "Don't worry Jane, I'd reward you."
I had begun to hate the word 'Reward'. It was all because of Alessandro.
"Hurry up. You don't want to miss out on this." Kat's voice was distant. Huffing loudly, I packed all the bags again.
When we got to the car. The chauffeur helped me stock everything in the boot.
"Thank you." I muttered under my breath, walking back to the car.
"You know how I said you'd regret if you don't leave the Bianchi Manor?"
I frowned at Kat who was inspecting her nails carefully. I didn't reply her.
"Yeah, don't reply." She scoffed. "Anyway, I will help you out."
I sat up, paying full attention to her. "You're not playing with me, Kat"
"If you get caught though, I won't be dragged into it." She looked at me. "It must be boring being subjected to Alessandro's control. It must be tiring being used day and night. Right?"
I looked at her skeptically, not nodding or responding. Inside, I was dying of curiosity.
"So Jane. I mean, Madison." She corrected, smiling up at me. "Stop here." She said to the chauffeur.
He glanced between us. I raised my eyebrow at her, looking between the guy and her.
"He wouldn't say anything. I trust him." She assured me.
"So?"
"This is where we part, Madison." She held my hand. "I wish you well."
"Just like that?"
"Just go already before you jinx it." She snapped harshly and then smiled.
A big smile crept to my lips as I alighted from the vehicle. I opened my closed palm, smiling at the cash she had slipped into my palm.
"Thank you, Kat." I thanked her, watching them drive off.
As the car drove away, my conscience gnawed at me. I bit my lips, replaying everything that had just happened.
This didn't feel right
