Chapter 21 I never listen
Madison's POV
Nothing pricked my heart more than what I had just witnessed with my eyes.
Kat and Alessandro? Together in one room?
They didn't look like they were just talking. It looked more than that.
He was definitely falling for her slowly. I didn't see that coming!
I mean, he didn't even dare to come after me. Not like I expected him to anyway.
Who was I lying to? A part of hoped he would come after me, telling me that I was seeing wrongly.
I knew that was too much expectations and I really wanted to stop myself from doing that but I just couldn't.
"You said Don asked you to write this?" Jero asked me, holding the folded paper delicately.
On the other hand, I was having a second thought.
"You know what? Forget about it." I stretched my hand to take the paper back but Jero wouldn't give it back.
"Jero?" I raised my eyebrow at him. "I don't want to give it to him again."
He would probably just toss it in his trash can. I was the one who was forcing him to reward me anyway.
"Too late." Jero raised his hands up, far from my reach. I pulled his hands down, standing on my toe as I tried to get it from him.
"Give it back." I groaned. "I don't want to give it to him anymore. Why can't you just listen to me."
"Stop struggling, Ms." He held my forearm, trying to push me away.
"What's going on here?" A cold voice said, sending icy chills down my spine.
Jero stood up straight, bringing his hands down immediately. He stood as tall and firm as a tree.
"Why's nobody answering me? Madison?" Alessandro called sternly. I raised my head up, meeting his dark onyx eyes.
"I ... I was -"
"Throwing yourself at a guard? That's a new low for you. Because you seduced a fucking man few days ago doesn't mean you should go round, practicing it on my men."
My heart ticked like a fucking bomb as I scoffed in disbelief. I stared into his eyes -the eyes that challenged me.
"Firstly, I didn't ask to seduce the so called guy, serpent or whatever his name was." I felt Jero's gaze on me and Alessandro's eyes only got darker. I didn't care. "And secondly, I wasn't seducing Jero here. I was asking that he return my paper."
He snapped his head to Jero. "What paper?"
"This." Jero handed it over to him. Alessandro looked at it skeptically, not wanting to touch it.
That only made me feel stupid for even writing it.
"You don't have to -"
"Shut the fuck up." He glared at me. "Don't forget I am the Don and you don't talk to me anyhow you feel like."
I clamped my mouth shut, digging my nails into my palm. He was being rude and I didn't like it but this was typical Alessandro.
Always Rude.
He finally snatched the paper from Jero, opening it. He didn't even spare it much of a glance before tearing it into million pieces, throwing it on the ground.
I bit my lips, staring at the ground as the papers littered.
"Clean that mess." His hard shoulder brushed mine as he walked past me. His footsteps halted afterwards and then he spoke again. "And I do not want to see what I just saw today. Have I made myself clear Madison?"
I nodded, too tired to talk.
"Are you fucking deaf?" His hand gripped my forearm, spinning me to face him.
His eyes bore into mine. I parted my lips, my chest heaving up and down.
"I heard you, Don." I spoke calmly, compared to how I was feeling inside. My insides burned with rage and all I wanted to do was to push his hands away.
I didn't want him touching me.
"Then act like it. You fucking respond when I speak to you." He pulled me closer to him, his nose flaring.
"Yes, Don. Sorry." I said dryly.
His grip loosened bit by bit until he peeled off his hand. "Good." He walked away.
Why was he mad at only me? At least if he wanted to get mad unnecessarily, Jero and I should be yelled at.
Oh well. I knew the answer.
He liked me less.
"There you are, Jane." Kat smiled up at me. Jero and I shared a look before I turned my attention back to her.
"Get out." She ordered, staring squarely at Jero.
"Madison is my top priority and -"
"I am the next in command after Don because I am going to be his wife soon and I say LEAVE. Do you really want to test me?" Kat frowned, facing Jero.
Jero braced himself up. He looked like he was about to challenge her and since I didn't want that, I did what I had to.
"Jero!" I called out to him. "I'm fine. Just.. just leave." I begged with my eyes.
Hesitation was evident in his eyes. He glanced between Kat and I and then he turned away.
Kat scoffed and then laughed. "Can you believe that Jane? You mean he now listens to only you?"
I frowned at her. "My name is not Jane. It's Madison."
Or Raven.
No. My name wasn't Raven.
Besides only one person could call me that.
I didn't even know why he called me that.
Her lips curved down, her eyes judging. "Yeah whatever." Then she smiled again - forcefully. "Aha! So I was wondering if you'd like to follow me out."
I raised my eyebrow at her. What was this about?
"Why?" I eyed her up and down. I didn't trust Kat.
"You know it sucks to go out alone. All my friends bailed out on me and I need someone to follow me."
More like, she needed a house maid who she could order around. I'd skip.
"Sorry but I'd have to decline that. I have duty and on top of that, I have to clean this mess." I pointed at the littered ground.
She looked at the ground, her face serious. Then she raised her face up, her tone cold, "You are turning me down?"
I opened my mouth to apologize and turn her down again when she pulled me with her, by my hand.
"I'll fall down. Easy!" I hissed, trying to slow my steps and pull my hands away from her grip.
"Dina. Dina. Assign Madison's duty to someone else because she's following me out." Kat said, smiling at me and then at Dina.
Dina looked at me in awe and confusion. I shook my head stiffly at her, silently begging her to refuse.
"I'm sorry but the Don wouldn't -"
"Do y'all want to fucking get fired because I can do that."
On hearing fired, my body jerked up. I wouldn't want them to fire Dina or Jero or anyone at all because of a stranger like me.
"I will go with you." I spoke up immediately before Dina could speak. She gave me a 'what are you doing' look.
"Good. Let me go get my purse so we can go." Kat clapped happily, rushing upstairs.
"Are you out of your mind?" Dina yelled immediately. "You don't want to go with her."
I don't.
"I do. It'll be great leaving the house a bit?" I shrugged.
"Ales wouldn't like this. He wouldn't."
I scoffed, looking at my palm
The Don that I met few minutes ago. The one who tore the paper I wanted to give him?
He couldn't even erase my doubt of him tossing it away. Worse, he tore it.
"I can't wait to have a fun filled day with you." Kat pulled me by my hand. "You won't regret it."
My mind told me I would.
I knew I shouldn't have gone.
I never listened. I just never.
