Chapter Ninety

"Yes, I purchased six car seats, and what is wrong with that?" Damien asked me curiously as he finished dressing Azeneth, then took Ciaran from Sinclair, and let him hold her instead so he could put Ciaran in his blue onesie.

"You don't six is a little much? Why would we ever need six?" I asked incredulously as I watched Sinclair and the way he was holding Azeneth. He was incredibly careful with her, his every slightest movement was followed by his eyes widening as he waited to see if he'd upset her. *'I wonder if he's more afraid of hurting her, or more afraid of pissing her off? Though, being less than a day old, I don't think he has anything to worry about.'*

"Our children are royal elemental vampire hybrids, my love. No, I do not think six is too many, as we do not know how quickly they will grow, and nor do we know when they will be able to use their abilities." Damien said as he finished dressing Ciaran, sitting down on the bed and holding him carefully in his arms.

"That reminds me. Now that you've given birth, are you still able to tap into your vampire abilities?" Sam asked as he entered the room, stopping next to Sinclair to look down at Azeneth, smiling softly.

"Hmm, I don't know, but I don't think so. The babies are the reason I was able to do it before, would I be able to do it now?" I asked with a shrug as I concentrated on using those abilities like I had dozens of times before. *'There's no way this will work, right'* I thought but was surprised when I felt my senses heightening, and my heartbeat stop. "Maybe its something that will take a few days? I did just give birth yesterday, so it's possible it's still because of the babies, isn't it?"

"Yes, possible, but improbable," Sinclair responded as he stood and began walking out of the hospital room, then stopped outside of the door and waited for Damien and me to step out.

"Why is it improbable?" I asked as I stepped out of the room, following Sam to the front desk where I needed to sign the paperwork. Sinclair waited until Damien and I finished signing everything before responding.

"They would have stopped infecting you with their venom months ago, as they developed quickly, so their systems should host all of their venoms now. Your ability to become a vampire is your own, and it should remain as such." Sinclair said, handing Sam Azeneth before opening the front doors for us.

I stopped and took Ciaran from Damien, as I felt like I needed to be holding one of my babies. Though I could still see them, not having one of them felt wrong. At the very least, anyway.

"That sounds correct, now that I consider it. Bast shouldn't have been able to do it for weeks now, but she can. Kitten, I think that means you'll always have that ability." Damien said as we arrived at a car, which I didn't recognize, but Damien opened the back door and set Azeneth in one of the car seats, so I didn't question it.

"Did I forget to mention I also bought a car?" Damien asked me with a smirk, before taking Ciaran from me and walking around the car to put him in the other car seat.

"So, you bought a car, six car seats, and a lot of baby stuff, which I'm terrified to see how much of that you bought. Anything else you did while I was asleep?" I asked slowly, shaking my head as I sat in the passenger seat, watching as Sam and Sinclair got into Sam's car and drove out of the parking lot. "Also, did Sam ever tell you what happened with Valerie?"

"I guess she was cheating on him with a boy from school and got pregnant, which is why she was acting out before and after our wedding." He responded with a sigh as he sat down in the driver's seat and glanced back at the babies before starting the car and driving forward. "I also picked a house from Octavia's list, so she and Kerr could have some privacy. I wanted to wait until you could pick one but didn't want to force her into having two newborns staying with her. I hope you aren't upset."

"No, I'm not upset. Thank you for always taking care of things for me, babe. You are amazing." I said as I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. *'I can't believe Valerie could cheat on Sam like that. Though I am curious how she managed to get away with it, she always was a sneaky type.'* "Where is Samantha? I'm surprised she wasn't at the hospital."

"She's staying with Anissa. Sam made her stay there because he wasn't sure if the hospital would be dangerous or not. Though with the attack, I suppose he was correct."

"Attack? What attack?" I asked, whipping my head around to look at him, my eyes widened in shock. *'There was an attack? How and why did I not hear about this?'*

"It honestly did slip my mind, as you were still birthing Ciaran when it happened. A nurse said she needed to check on Azeneth, but I wouldn't allow her to take the baby, and when we arrived at the room, there was a group of mimics waiting there for us. I suppose the nurse thought that the mimics would be able to overpower us." He explained as we pulled into the driveway of what I imagined to be our new house. *'Well, is it our house? We will only be staying here until I've learned to control my abilities. Well, that and until the babies are a little older and it's okay for them to travel. But if they age as quickly as they did in the womb, that won't be a very long wait.'*

Damien carried Ciaran in, while I carried Azeneth, up to the steps of the house where I could hear Samantha and Anissa giggling happily. "These poor babies," I muttered as I stepped into the house where everyone was waiting. Sam, Sinclair, Anissa, Samantha, Octavia, Kerr, and a girl about my age that I hadn't seen before.

"Bast and Damien, this is Lilith, and Lilith, this is my sister Bast and her fiance Damien," Octavia said, motioning as she introduced us.

"Hey, Lilith. Nice to meet you." I said as I shook her hand, then smiled when I saw the way she was smiling at Azeneth, "And this is Azeneth."

"That is a pretty name. It seems like everyone in your family has an uncommon name. Other than Damien, no offense." She giggled softly, smiling warmly at Damien. I could tell she was incredibly afraid to be in the room with two vampires and a recreant, but she hid it well.

"If it helps, my birth name is Lucifer," Damien said with a chuckle, switching the hand he was holding Ciaran's to hold his hand out. She hesitated for a second before she took his hand and shook it, but shook it nonetheless.

"Congrats, mom and dad! The girl's name is Azeneth? What about this little cutie?" Anissa asked as she took Ciaran from Damien and cooed as she held him in her arms.

"Ciaran," I said, letting Samantha hold Azeneth. "Are you alright?" I asked her, noticing a sadness in her eyes.

"Of course, I am." She lied, then giggled at the baby as she opened her eyes, looking up at Samantha in curiosity.

"Damien, she's got my eyes!" I gasped, looking down at Azeneth, who turned her attention to me instead. She had eyes like mine, emerald green.

"Yes, she does," Damien said as he put his arm around my waist, standing behind Samantha and me, smiling down at the baby in happiness.

"Damien," Octavia said, drawing our attention to her instead, and nodded her head towards the front door, signaling that she wanted Damien to follow her. I didn't try to follow, but I tapped into my vampire hearing so I could know what was happening.

I watched as they walked outside, followed by Kerr and Sam, leaving the door open slightly as they stood on the porch. Octavia and Kerr both lit cigarettes before either of them spoke.

"Those mimics who attacked you yesterday, they aren't in my pack," Octavia said with a growl before taking another long draw off of her cigarette.

"What does that mean, exactly?" Sam asked

"It means mimics found a way to get into the town, without Octavia knowing. As you can probably imagine, that bodes well for no one." Kerr responded.

"How do you know when someone comes into town?" Damien asked Octavia, looking back in at us before turning his attention back to her.

"There should be only one entrance, and that is the front entrance. I have round the clock mimics there to tell me when someone new comes. Those guards didn't notify me about that group, which means they didn't come in through the front entrance." Octavia explained slowly, waiting for Sam and Damien to catch on to what she was trying to tell them. After waiting a few moments, she sighed. "My border is failing, and I need to be able to reinforce it. I need Bast to help me do that, as the town has grown too far outside of my abilities."

"She just gave birth, Octavia. I don't think she's in any shape to do something like that, not to mention the fact that she hasn't gotten training on how." Damien responded with a soft growl.

"Damien, I'm not a child, and I don't need you to tell me what I can and cannot do." I snapped as I walked to the door and looked at the group, who looked stunned to see me. "Octavia has done a lot for us, and the least I can do is try. Even if I fail."

"Bast, he's right. You just gave birth yesterday. It probably isn't a good idea to push yourself so much right now." Octavia responded, shaking her head, causing her long brown hair to shake softly.

"I realized this on the way home, but I'm healing faster than I should be. Or, I'm healing faster than I used to, before the babies and becoming an elemental." I said, reaching for the pack of cigarettes Kerr was holding. He raised an eyebrow and pulled the pack of cigarettes back, out of my reach, shaking his head. "Oh come on, I'm eighteen!"

"Your age isn't the reason I won't give you one, Bast. It's a nasty habit." He said, shaking his head again. Damien sighed and grabbed the pack before Kerr could notice what happened, then took one out, lighting it before handing it to me. He reached past me and pulled the door closed before he would let me smoke it.

"She smoked all the time in high school, age aside," Damien said as he leaned against the railing on the porch, watching me.

"How did you- Nevermind," I said, shaking my head. *'Do not ask the questions you don't want to know the answer to, Bast. You will regret asking every time.'* I looked at Kerr, realizing for the first time that he appeared to be around the same age as Damien, and Octavia was only twenty-four. "Kerr, how old are you?"

"Thirty-Six."

"You're older than Damien?" I gasped, trying and failing to stop myself from laughing. *'Granted, Damien has been thirty-two for over 200 years, it's still funny that my sister is dating a guy older than my boyfriend. Though, I suppose we are both a little weird. I'm dating a guy fourteen years older than me, and she's dating a guy twelve years older than her.'* I thought as I looked to Damien and Sam, who snorted and shook their heads.

"Wait, is he?" Octavia asked, biting her lip to keep herself from smiling as she looked from Damien to Kerr, then busted out laughing.

"He's over two centuries old! I'm only older in human years, not immortal years." Kerr snapped, looking from Octavia and I as we struggled to stop ourselves from laughing.

"Huh, I just realized I don't know how old you are. Only in human years." Octavia struggled out, wiping tears from her eyes.

"No, you'll start laughing again, and I'd rather not," Kerr responded, narrowing his eyes as he waited for us to stop laughing.

"Wait, mimics stop aging too?" I asked as I finally stopped laughing and waited for either Kerr or Octavia to answer me.

"We don't stop aging, but after a certain age, we age slower," Octavia said as she finally stopped laughing.

"Oh, I didn't know that," I said as I flicked my cigarette down into the grass, then turned to enter the house.

"I'd guess he's over fifty, at least," Sinclair said, looking up from the couch with a grin, watching Kerr as he sat across from him on the other couch, shaking his head.

"We are not talking about my age, so stop trying."

"Hmm, then I'd say closer to a century, based on that response." Sam added as he walked to Samantha, kissing her on the head, watching her as she played with Azeneth.

"It's okay babe, I still love you." Octavia said as she sat next to Kerr, kissing him on the cheek.

"Here, momma. I know you're missing your babies already." Anissa said as she handed me Ciaran, then sitting next to Octavia.

"Is that normal? To miss them so much even though I'm right here?" I asked her as I put a cover over my shoulders, bringing Ciaran to my breast to drink. Damien lifted me slightly, and sat me down between his legs, leaning back

"Believe it or not, it gets worse." She chuckled, pulling Octavia to her in a wide hug. "I miss Octavia and worry about her, even though she's a big bad alpha now."

"I love you too, Anissa." Octavia giggled, putting her arms around the woman with a smile.

"Octavia, when do we need to do the border thing?" I asked, leaning back into Damien's arms rubbing Ciaran's head softly as he drank.

"Soon, but you need to rest. So likely within the next few days.
