Chapter Eighty-Eight

***The event ended today! More details at the bottom of this chapter!***

"Those are my children, and I have the right to be in there!" I yelled as Sinclair forced me out of the room, him and Kerr using all of their strength to restrain me. *'How dare they force me out of the room where my woman is birthing my children?'*

"Those omegas are scared of their own shadow, and they don't need the vampire king to be in the room," Kerr responded, grunting as he helped Sinclair hold me back.

"They should be scared. I'll rip the heads from their shoulders if anything happens to my woman!" I yelled, trying and failing to get past the two men holding me back. Any other time, Sinclair's strength would have been enough, but not this time. Not with what was happening.

"Lucifer, think about it!" Sinclair said as he pushed against my shoulder again, forcing me further into the waiting room. "Bastet is a new elemental, she doesn't know how to control her powers, and that will be enough for them to deal with without the vampire king in the room, ready to lunge at their throats."

*'Is he right? Would it be better for me not to be there? Those omegas are worthless, but Octavia will have her hands full, trying to keep Bastet's powers in check. She doesn't need to have me trying to kill members of her pack in the same room. FUCK!'* I finally sat down in one of the chairs, but then immediately stood and began pacing. I listened in on the area where Bast and Octavia were, wincing every time Bast cried out. I knew there was nothing I could do to help her, but I just wanted to be there to hold her hand and comfort her. I could hear Octavia trying to calm Bast down, and the nurses and doctors scampering around, trying to avoid the fire Bast was throwing around the room.

"You're right. You have every right to be in that room, and if things were different, we wouldn't be stopping you. But consider what Sinclair said." Kerr said as he watched me pace, sighing softly.

"Because of Bast's vampiric abilities, her heart keeps stopping, and I don't know if that's because something is going wrong, or because she can't control herself," I mumbled to Kerr and Sinclair, who were standing nearby, watching me. I knew they were standing nearby to make sure I didn't try to rush into the room, but I ignored that and continued to listen, making sure I wasn't needed.

"If something goes wrong, they will tell you, rest assured," Sinclair commented, turning his head in Bast's direction as she screamed out.

"I can see why Bast hates when I tell her that. Rest assured? No rest assured until I know she and my children are safe." I growled, then punched the wall, shaking the debris from my fist as I pulled it out of the hole I'd just made in the wall.

"Lucifer, I understand your frustration, but little Bastet is alright, and Octavia is there by her side. Nothing will happen to her." Sinclair said as he crossed the room, trying to comfort me, but I pushed him away with a snarl.

"How would you understand, Sinclair?"

"I had children, Lucifer. Three of them." Sinclair snapped, his upper lip twitching in anger as he took a few steps back, shaking his head. "Or, I would have had three. My wife and my third died on the table."

I was taken aback when he said this, as I didn't know that Sinclair had children. Come to think of it, I didn't know all too much about Sinclair as a whole. *'His wife and child died while she was giving birth? My god, I couldn't begin to comprehend such pain.'* "What were their names?" I asked after a few moments of thought.

"Laura, Beth, and the third was to be Rian, my only boy." He responded softly, his golden eyes clouded over in pain as he thought about his wife and child.

"Ciaran. A fine name for a young man, a fine name indeed." I said thoughtfully. I wished I could help Sinclair, as seeing a man of his staus so upset pained me more than I could bear to stand.

"Have you and Bast decided on names for your kids?" Kerr asked, looking back and forth between Sinclair and me, trying to change the subject.

"To be honest, no. We planned to do it after our wedding, but you know how that turned out." I responded, the sound of Bast's scream bringing me out of my thoughts and back to the matter at hand. "That didn't sound like the others. Something is wrong!" I exclaimed as I started to go back to the room, but just as I began to round the corner, a nurse ran into me. "What's wrong with her?" I snarled, feeling my fangs elongate. The woman didn't answer fast enough for my liking, so I picked her up by the throat and slammed her into the wall. "What. Happened?"

Before I could do anything that Octavia might have killed me for, I heard the loud and unmistakable cries of a baby. If I had a heartbeat, I know it would have stopped when I heard it.

"Damien," Octavia said as she took a step out of the room, holding a tiny bundle in her arms. Her aquamarine eyes were bright as she smiled at me, then looked back down to the babe. "It's a girl," She mumbled softly, cooing to the thing as she played with the tiny hand that came up from the bundle.

"Sorry I'm late, Anissa wouldn't let me go until-" Sam started to apologize as he entered the waiting room, but when he saw Octavia standing there with the bundle in his arms, he cut himself short.

"Sir!" The omega gasped, trying to pry my fingers from around her throat, reminding me that I was still holding her against the wall.

I released my hand and took a few hesitant steps towards the bundle, unable to speak, as I didn't know what to say. *'My child- That's my child! It's so tiny. I didn't think it would be so small.'* The sound of the baby crying brought me out of my thoughts, causing me to stop still a few feet away, afraid of coming any closer. *'The baby didn't cry until I came near-'* I started to doubt myself, but I could feel the strong urge of happiness and curiosity, telling me that Sinclair was toying with my feelings. Though, for the first time, I didn't mind it.

"It's okay, Damien, it's your child, you need to hold it," Sam said softly before putting his hand on my shoulder and giving me a swift push.

"No, she's so small, I'll hurt her. No." I said, shaking my head as I tried to take another step back, but I was greeted by Kerr, who pushed me forward.

"You will not hurt her, vampire king. Say hello to your child." Kerr said with a growl, but it wasn't a threatening one, just a soft and encouraging growl.

I hesitantly closed the difference between Octavia and me, holding out my arms as she put the baby in my arms. It felt as if my heart began beating again, so it could explode when I looked down into the face of my baby. *'My baby. I cannot believe I'm holding my child in my arms!'*

"Hello, little one, I'm your father," I whispered, running a finger down her cheek, feeling all of the hatred and anger I held dissipating, just by looking at her face.

"A beautiful little thing," Sinclair said softly over my shoulder as he looked down at the baby, his eyes bright with I could only describe as a knowing fatherly love.

"Hmm, that she is." Sam agreed, allowing her to grip his finger in her tiny hand.

The sound of Bast yelling brought our attention from the baby, back to the nurse who stood just outside of the door, waiting.

"What's happening?" I gasped, instinctively holding the baby tighter against me. *'Please don't let her be dying, I can't lose her!'*

"The other baby is coming. Alpha, we need you. She's going to set the room on fire if you can't help her contain it!" The nurse gasped as she looked into the room, then back at Octavia, her eyes wide in fear and panic.

"Of course," Octavia said as she rushed back into the room, closing the door behind her.

"Damien, she's alright. The other babe is coming, and Octavia will take care of her the same way she did for the first." Kerr comforted me as he peered into the bundle, then smiled softly.

"I-I'm sorry," A voice said from behind Kerr, bringing our attention to the timid woman who stood before us. "I need to give the baby an examination." she gasped out, looking from Sam, then Sinclair, before her eyes finally landed on me.

"Don't they give the examinations directly after the baby is born?" Sam asked her, narrowing his eyes.

"Yes, one directly after, then another a few minutes later. To make sure the baby is adjusting to life outside of the womb, and everything is alright."

"Fine then, where does she need to go?" I asked with a sigh, ready to walk with the woman, but she remained still.

"I can take the baby, Sir. It is my job."

"I'll bring her." I snapped at the woman, narrowing my eyes as I watched her. *'I understand that it is your job, but I am not giving my child to a mimic, I do not know.'*

"Very well, then, follow me." She said before turning and walking a few doors down from where Bast was.

"Who the hell are you?" Kerr yelled when we entered the room, to find that there were three mimics waiting, dressed in all black. I could tell that this nurse was going to do something to my child, and the relief I felt knowing that my suspicions had stopped it from happening; assured me that I was indeed ready to be a father.

The men were surprised to see Sam, Sinclair, Kerr, and me standing there and took a moment to regain their composure before lunging at us. I didn't need to protect myself or the child, as Kerr, Sinclair, and Sam immediately stood before me, snarling and growling at the men, before lunging to attack.

"And where do you think you're going?" I called the nurse who thought I didn't see her edging out of the room, assuming I was far too engrossed in the fight, or holding my child to pay her any mind.

I carefully readjusted the way I was holding the baby, and grabbed the nurse by her throat with my free hand, carrying her back into the waiting room, before throwing her into the chairs. "Don't kill them, bring them here," I said over my shoulder to the three men fighting the mimics.

My command was followed by groans of protests, but they did as I said, and brought the men out to the waiting room, throwing them in the general direction of where the nurse lay.

"You knew something was going to happen, then?" Sinclair asked as he wiped off a trail of blood that fell down his chin.

"I didn't know, but I knew that woman wasn't to be trusted," I answered as I looked back down at the bundle in my arms. "You've got your mother's eyes, little one," I mumbled as she looked up at me, her big green eyes wide. There was a childish wonder in her eyes, but I could see the power and understanding in her eyes as well. "You'll be a powerful little thing, won't you?" I asked her softly before sitting down in a chair, ignoring the moans of the four would-be attackers who were waking.

"Dumb bitch must have thought those mimics could overpower us," Sam said with a sneer, kicking one of the men in the gut.

"Language, Alastair," I warned, rocking softly back and forth, trying to understand the look in my daughter's eyes. I don't know how I knew, but I knew that she could understand everything going on around her.

"I apologize, little one," Sam said as he stood over me and smiled at the baby, before turning his attention back to me. "Did you and Bast pick out names?"

"No, we didn't. But I've got the feeling Bast has an idea already." I answered, looking up in the direction of where I heard the door opening.

"Sir, you're son has been born. Would you like to cut the cord?" The doctor asked, a grin on his face until he came closer and saw the four mimics who lay unconscious on the ground.

"What the fuck, Damien? I get that you were worried about Bast, but did you need to attack random people?" Octavia said softly as she eyed the baby in my arms, not wanting to speak loud enough to startle her.

"They tried to take the baby, but Damien wouldn't allow us to bring real harm to them, so we threw them over there," Kerr said, as he pulled Octavia into his arms, kissing the top of her head. "It wasn't random, I assure you."

"They did what?" She asked incredulously, then growled at them before looking back at me. "I'm sorry." She said as she patted my shoulder, then followed me back into the room.

"Oh, my love," I mumbled when my eyes landed on Bast. Her black hair drenched in sweat, her green eyes low and exhausted until she saw me and the baby in my arms.

"Damien," She muttered softly, trying to sit up, but was stopped as I put my hand on her shoulder, pushing her back down.

"Rest, my love. You need it." I whispered as I leaned down and handed her the baby, then kissing her forehead. I stepped down to the foot of the bed where the nurse was holding my son, drying him off, and rubbing his belly, while the doctor handed me the scissors to cut the cord.

"How is our baby boy?" Bast asked, trying to see him as the nurse handed him to me after taking the scissors.

"Beautiful, my love. Just like you." I said as I walked back to her side, before sitting down on the bed next to her.

"He's got your eyes," She said softly, a few stray tears falling down her cheeks as she looked from me to our children, then back to me. "Don't be afraid, guys. You can come in." She said with a laugh as she looked past me and to the doorway where the three men were peering into the room curiously.

"A boy and a girl. Everything you've ever wanted." Sinclair said after crossing the room and standing on the other side of Bast. as he looked down at the boy in my arms, smiling softly. "You did good, momma." He said, then leaned down and kissed the top of her head before looking down at the girl in her arms.

"She doesn't seem too happy that you kissed her mother," Octavia said with a laugh, sitting down on the other side of the bed.

"She isn't, not in the slightest," Sinclair said, before narrowing his eyes at the little girl, then smiling, "You'll just have to get over it, little one, as I will not be going away anytime soon."

"Bast?" I said, pushing the stray hairs out of her face, looking down into her tired eyes. She was tired, but I could tell she was overwhelmingly happy as well.

"Hmm?"

"Have you any idea what you wish to name them?"

"I like the name Azeneth, and I think it's fitting."

"An Egyptian name like yours, and meaning 'She belongs to her father' if I'm not mistaken?" Sinclair asked.

"Mhm, I like it, but what do you think?" She asked me, peering up at me nervously.

"I love it, but what do you think about the name Ciaran?" I asked her, smiling softly when I saw Sinclair's eyes widen in shock and disbelief.

"What does it mean?" Bast asked, looking back and forth between Sinclair and me curiously.

"It means 'little dark one,' and it was to be the name of my son," Sinclair answered breathlessly as he came over to where I sat, Waiting until I handed the baby to Octavia before pulling me into a hug. "You don't need to name him that, little Bastet, but thank you, Damien, for even considering it." He said after I sat back down on the bed, taking my daughter from Bast's arms so she could hold our son.

"No, I like it. And this wouldn't be possible without you, Sinclair. None of it would be. Azeneth and Ciaran, I love it." She said, smiling down at our girl.
