"Bast, wake up. It's time to start training." Octavia said as she shook me softly. I tried to hold back the vampiric abilities that were coming to the front as I woke up, but I couldn't help it, as the babies didn't react well to being woken up. I couldn't blame them as it seemed like I never got to wake up on my own anymore, and someone was always making me wake up before I was ready to.
"Sorry, it's not me. The babies aren't happy about waking up." I said with a groan as I sat up, trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes as I looked into Octavia's bright aquamarine eyes. *'How in the hell is she so awake?'*
"Good morning," Damien said as he entered the bedroom, handing a mug to me before offering one to Octavia as well.
"Morning, where are your lieutenant and the recreant?" Octavia asked as she slowly sipped the hot coffee, sitting down at the bottom of my feet, while Damien sat down on the bed next to me, kissing me on the forehead.
"Sam is getting Samantha, and Sinclair is feeding. He'll be back soon, as he left about thirty minutes ago." Damien answered as his eyes fell to my stomach and rubbed it softly. *'I can't believe I ever thought he could kill our babies. Look at how happy he is!'*
"Where did he go to feed?" Octavia asked as her mimic trying to force its way up. She'd made the vampires promise to feed out of town, but I could tell she was worried that Sinclair didn't listen to her and was out killing her citizens.
"Two towns over, because he's going to bring some back for Sam and I. Don't worry, it's only about four humans, and he went a distance to kill."
"Four? There's three of you!" She exclaimed, furrowing her brows in confusion.
"Sinclair is a recreant, his appetite is vast, and for him to stop at two is a feat in and of itself," Damien responded dryly, shaking his head like he couldn't believe she could be so dumb.
"Okay, maybe we should stop talking about this?" I said, leaning forward, so Damien and Octavia were blocked from seeing each other, worried that they might get into a fight right here while I was still laying here.
"Lucifer, your meal is on the table. Hello, mimic alpha." Sinclair said as he entered the bedroom, smiling softly at me, his golden eyes bright, showing he'd indeed just fed.
"Okay, do you understand what bedroom means, Sinclair? Get out!" I said as I stood and ushered all of them out of my room so I could dress in peace.
"Why do you insist on calling me that? You know damn well, my name is Octavia." Octavia asked Sinclair as they went to the kitchen. *'Weird, why is my vampire hearing working? I'm not tapping into it.'* I thought, realizing that I shouldn't have been able to hear what she was saying so clearly.
"Why do you insist on calling me recreant when you know my name?" Sinclair retorted.
"I said that before you got here!" She gasped in confusion. *'Does she not realize how powerful Sinclair's hearing is?'* I thought as I put on a pair of jeans and a tank top. Though the tank top made my pregnancy stomach more obvious, I didn't mind it much.
"Recreants, abilities are arguably almost double that of a vampire, Octavia. I could hear you speaking the moment I came back to town." Sinclair responded.
"It's pretty annoying how much he can hear. The only thing worse is that he's got more of the speed and strength, meaning no fight will be even." Sam said as he entered the house. I could hear Samantha's heartbeat as they did so, making me happy that there was finally another girl around. Though Octavia is a girl, she felt like she was too powerful to be considered as such, and was equal with the men, who's testosterone made me feel like I was drowning almost daily.
I turned my attention to trying to put on my shoes but groaned as my stomach was keeping me from being able to do so.
"You knew what he was going to do, Octavia. Why would you watch it?" Damien asked with a snort as he stood and returned to the bedroom, smiling softly at me before he bent to help me put on my shoes. *'God, how is this man so scary but so amazing?'*
"Yeah, it seems pretty dumb to watch someone drink blood, knowing how it would affect you," I said as Damien helped me out of the bedroom and to the kitchen.
"Oh, you heard that?" Octavia asked, raising an eyebrow as she motioned for us to follow her as she walked down a flight of stairs. "Kerr is the only other person who's been here, and I don't share this with anyone. Please, don't tell anyone," she said as she opened the door to the room we were waiting behind.
I felt my jaw drop to the ground as I stepped inside the room. It was like stepping outside while still being inside. The room was a small forest, with a river to the right. There was a sun in the sky, which was concrete, reminding me that I wasn't outside. *'A whole forest, in her house? This is amazing! Oh my god, there's even a breeze?'*
"How... How is this possible?" Damien asked in awe as he stepped into the room, looking around. He crouched down to touch the grass like he couldn't believe that it was real.
"Wow!" Samantha exclaimed as she pushed Damien to the side to go to the lake, where she immediately took off her shoes and socks, putting her legs down in the water.
"Did that human just push me?" Damien asked incredulously, looking from Samantha to me like he wasn't sure if he'd imagined it or not. But he didn't, she'd just pushed him, and it was hilarious.
"She did, and if you don't move, I'll push you too," I said with a giggle, putting my hands on his shoulder to act like I was going to push him.
"Oh, is that so?" Damien exclaimed, grinning, showing his crater-like dimples that I wish I got to see more often. He picked me up and tossed me over his shoulder, making sure he wasn't pressing against my stomach, before carrying me to the riverbank next to Samantha.
"Put me down!" I giggled as I tried kicking my legs to get free, but Damien ignored me as he stepped into the river, before setting me down next to Samantha. He glared at her for a few moments before putting his hand on her back and giving her one swift push into the river.
Octavia was looking at us curiously, like the fact that Damien could be playful was weird to her, before sitting down on the riverbank next to me, setting her feet down in the water.
"Don't think you're exempt, mimic alpha," Sinclair whispered in Octavia's ear, not giving her a chance to react before he shoved her into the water.
"Oh, you are going to pay for that, recreant!" she yelled as she waved her hand, forcing him into the river with a burst of air he had no chance to fight. *'Wow, that was awesome! I can't wait until she teaches me how to do that!'*
"Yes! Thank you!" Sam exclaimed as he laughed, his laughter only getting louder when he saw how pissed of Sinclair was.
This only caused a full-blown fight as Sam tried to dodge Sinclair's attempts to throw him into the river, while Samantha tried to push Damien over again, not seeming to realize she stood no chance unless she'd managed to throw him off guard, which wasn't likely to happen a second time in her lifetime.
"What in the hell is happening right now?" Kerr said as he entered the room, closing the door behind him. His deep blue eyes were wide in a mixture of confusion and surprise as he looked around.
Before any of us could say anything, Sinclair pushed Kerr into the water, laughing.
"Sinclair!" I gasped out as I watched him push Kerr into the river, waiting in stunned silence for what Kerr would do next. And I wasn't the only one as Damien, Octavia, Sam, and Samantha were also curiously waiting in silence as we watched Kerr pull himself out of the river, then walk towards Sinclair who'd remained still, smirking.
"So, is that what we're doing now, recreant? You know that only the girls have the power to hurt you, so you quite literally throw me?" Kerr asked dryly, narrowing his eyes at Sinclair.
"Not quite, mimic hybrid. I was curious about what kind of fight a hitman hybrid could put up." Sinclair responded with a shrug, then smiled as Kerr. The two men remained silent for a few minutes before they finally lunged at each other, fighting. I was surprised that Kerr could keep up with Sinclair, and it looked as if he was winning the fight. *'How is it possible for Kerr to be winning? Kerr is an only half mimic, and Sinclair is a recreant! Maybe Sinclair is slowing himself down?'* I thought as I watched them, but I knew that wasn't the case, as they were not pulling their punches in the slightest. Kerr managed to punch Sinclair so hard that he went flying backward into a tree.
"Stop it!" Octavia growled as she stood, waiting for the two men to stop, but they didn't. I wasn't sure if they were ignoring her, or didn't hear her, although the latter was least likely as they had superhuman hearing. Octavia growled and brought her hands up, bringing two orbs made out of dirt up around the two men, then split it in half, separating the two in their own orbs.
I could hear them fighting to get free, but the dirt prisons she built seemed to be too strong even for Sinclair's recreant strength as she went to the tree they'd knocked down, and put her hand on the ground. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. But the tree pieced itself back together and grew back taller as if nothing had happened.
"You're telling me, that Bast will be able to do all of that as well?" Samantha asked, her mouth falling open as she watched in amazement.
"Yes, she will. With practice, of course." Octavia said as she walked to the orbs and stood there with her hands on her hips. "If I let you out, are you going to damage my mini forest again? Because if you are, I'll leave you in there until you suffocate, Kerr. And Sinclair, I will bury you so far in the earth, you'll be a hundred years older before you see the surface again."
