"When I tell everyone what this is, they will understand. You'll see. The pack has always been accepting of my decisions, and they will understand this too." Octavia said with a nod as Damien helped me down the stairs, holding a suitcase in his free hand, and a bag over his shoulder.
"Bast, how far along are you?" Kerr asked as Damien went to the garage to put their bags in his car.
"Um, I lost count." I laughed as I took a moment to think about it. "I think almost two months now?" I said after a few moments of thinking about it.
"The babies grow incredibly fast, and it is closer to three months than it is to two, my love. Come, get in the car." Damien said after pulling his Aston Martin out of the garage and parked it behind Octavia's car.
"That's more than incredibly fast," Octavia mumbled as she got into the driver's seat of her car and closed the door.
"I thought we were going to run there?" Kerr asked as he sat down next to her, waiting. "And what in the hell is taking those guys so long?"
"I guess Damien had that guest house stocked with every gaming system ever made, and full of food to last months. And I changed my mind, Jaxson and Harold can head up and tail us, but I think Sinclair is going to run, so Sam and Samantha can ride in the car with us." Octavia said.
"Is everyone ready?" Sam asked as he pulled into the driveway, driving a champagne gold Ferarri, with Samantha in the passenger seat.
"Yes, let's go," Damien called out the window as he waited for Octavia to lead the way.
"A Ferarri and an Aston Martin? Do vampires know what under the radar means?" Octavia unhappily mumbled as she drove down the driveway, keeping her distance from the snow-white wolf who ran just in front of us.
"Vampires don't do, subtle," Kerr said with a laugh as the three cars, headed up by and followed by a wolf made the way to Octavia's pack town.
________
"Wake up, Kerr. We're here." I heard Octavia say to Kerr as we arrived at our destination.
"Jesus, Octavia, did we fly here?" he asked as he watched us step out of the cars, looking around.
"May of well as," Sinclair mumbled with a chuckle, making Kerr whip around to face him, clearly not realizing that he was leaning against the house behind him.
"So, this is the infamous pack town? Amazing." Sam said as he looked around, taking everything in.
"When you three go to feed, take a wolf, and do not kill anyone in my town. I should have said that before I brought you here, but I managed to forget that you were blood-suckers." Octavia said, then looked off towards the center of town for a few minutes, likely talking to someone in the pack. "Come on, Bast. I want you to meet Anissa."
"Oh, okay," I said as Damien took my hand in his and began to follow Octavia.
"Octavia, you're back!" Anissa grinned when we arrived at her house, pulling Octavia into a hug, grinning from ear to ear. "Where- Oh my god, are those vampires?" She gasped out when she saw Damien and Sam, but when her eyes fell on Sinclair, they went wide in fear as she took a few steps back.
"Anissa, it's okay. We were wrong about recreants. Look at him he's calm, tell me if that's what you thought recreants was?" Octavia said as she pulled Anissa into a hug, holding her like she was afraid Anissa would faint. Which didn't appear far from the truth, as all the color had drained out of Anissa's face, the moment her eyes fell on Sinclair, seeing his golden eyes.
"Yeah..." Anissa said as she eyed Sinclair curiously, waiting to see if it was a facade before she would get any closer to him. "Is it also false that you are stronger and faster than regular vampires? Or is that a misconception as well?"
"Oh, that is quite true, I assure you," Sinclair responded with a soft chuckle, winking before sitting down on the couch.
*'Ew, did he just wink? Why does that disturb me so much?'*
"Anissa, this is Bast. You'll never guess who she is!" Octavia exclaimed, rolling her eyes at Sinclair.
"Bast? Like Bastet? That's a beautiful name. Who is she?" Anissa asked, taking in my appearance until she noticed my protruding stomach and smiled knowingly, "Congratulations! When are you due?"
"I honestly don't know, to be honest with you. But I feel like it's going to be pretty soon." I giggled as I put my hand to her stomach and smiled.
"We're sisters, Anissa. Half sisters!" Octavia exclaimed, her eyes going wide in shock as she waited for Anissa to react.
"Wow, how did you find that out?" Anissa asked, doing a double-take, looking from me to Octavia. "Yeah, I can see it. You have the same nose and the same eyes, except for the color, of course."
"She's a royal, Anissa! She can control all four elements as I can! But I told the pack to meet us at the town hall, so we need to go. But I wanted to let you know that we were back and that I found out I had a sister." Octavia said as she waved us out of the house and began walking to the town hall where the pack was waiting.
When we entered the town hall, the room was packed with hundreds of people lining the walls, and sitting down in the chairs. There was barely enough room to hold everyone as some were even standing outside the door, but they still had a walkway cleared down the center towards the stage.
The moment Damien, Sam, and Sinclair entered the town hall, most of the people who were sitting, jumped into their mimics, while the rest crouched and growled.
"Stand down!" Octavia roared, her alpha scent bringing every mimic to their knees, including Kerr.
"Damien..." I mumbled softly, grabbing his hand as I saw all of the wolves surrounding us, snarling.
*'Well, if I'm going to die, at least I'll die with Damien. No, wait. I can't die! My babies!'*
"It's okay, kitten. We'll be fine, I promise." Damien said as his eyes turned red, and he snarled back at the hundreds of wolves standing before us. Half of the mimics in the hall were in full wolf form, while the rest were in human form, but I could see their mimics rippling as they held themselves back from changing.
"Stand down!" Octavia roared to the crowd, a robust and overwhelming scent reaching my nose the moment she spoke. It was like the words she spoke entered me and was trying to force me to my knees, and although it may have been easier, I fought the urge and remained standing.
"Alpha!" A man exclaimed as he came closer to Octavia. He was about Sinclair's height with the same muscular build as Sinclair, but his head shaved, and his eyes were like two black coals.
"Jacob, do not argue with me. I know what I'm doing. Get out of my way," Octavia growled as she pushed past him and led us up the aisle. Damien kept his fangs elongated as we made our way forward, him, Sam, and Sinclair kept Samantha and I between them, protecting us as if the mimics were going to attack us, and not them. "Get out of your mimicks. We are holding a meeting, and you need to all pay your full attention. You have five minutes, GO!" Octavia said to the crowd once we reached the stage. When Octavia finished talking, all of the mimics ran out of the building, and while the others sat back down and waited.
"Thank you," I said as one of the men who was leaning against the wall brought me a chair, who immediately made another man stand when he saw that I was pregnant.
"Of course," The man said softly, his grey eyes soft and warm as he helped me sit, then growled lowly at Damien, before returning to where he stood against the wall.
"We knew this wasn't going to be as simple as telling them to get over it, but you guys seriously could try to be more helpful, you know?" Octavia said with a sigh, narrowing her eyes with a soft growl.
"Yes, Alpha," Sinclair said in a mocking tone as he sat down on the stage, just in front of me, bringing his legs down with a loud thump, making all of the mimics in the room jump up surprised.
"Sinclair! Really?" Samantha said, punching him in the shoulder before sitting down next to him.
Sam chuckled and sat on the other side of Samantha, leaning back on his arms as he looked out at the crowd. "Hey, how's it going?" He asked the nearest woman to him, winking.
"Why are you here?" The woman responded, eyeing us curiously.
"Sit down." Octavia boomed as the rest of the mimicks filed into the building again. She watched as they sat down, growling if any of them looked at us, waiting until they all sat before speaking. "This is the vampire king, Damien, and his lieutenant, Sam. And that is the leader of the recreants, Sinclair."
"Oh my god, that's the vampire king? And you two are friends? How the hell did that happen?" The man, Jacob responded, his black coal-like eyes wide in shock. "Wait, leader of the recreants? I didn't know such a title existed!"
"Yes, I understand that a lot of you dislike vampires, and you've never had to be in such proximity with such, especially such high ranking vampires. But Damien and Sinclair have pledged their allegiance to our fight against the elementals and will help us train to take them down. The reason they are here is because of Bastet." Octavia said, holding her hand out to me with a soft smile.
"Oh, okay," I said as I took her hand and walked to the podium with her, trying to stop myself from blushing.
"This is Bastet, and she's my half-sister. I ran into Sinclair a few days ago, who was searching for an elemental to assist his friend who displayed abilities. As many of you know, that is the reason I left. To go and help his friend. When I arrived, I found out that the friend was my sister, who is engaged to the vampire king, and best friends with the leader of recreants. As members of my pack, you know you have a right to speak, so speak now, we will answer any questions you have."
"So, basically, you and your sister are magnets for power, and the two of you combined, are the deadliest force in the known world?" Jacob asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked back and forth between Octavia and me, then nodded as he could see the similarity between us.
"Sounds about right," I said with a giggle, then went to sit back down.
"Who is the human sitting between the recreant and the king's lieutenant?" One of the men towards the back of the building asked.
"Hello, I'm Samantha. I'm Bast's friend. I asked to come with because I wanted to learn about mimics." Samantha said softly, trying to force herself to smile.
"Are you really the king of vampires?"
"Yes, and the vampire sitting on the stage is my lieutenant. I am Lucifer Damien Edge." Damien said, his deep and resounding voice ringing out clearly from one side of the giant room to the other.
"And you're engaged to a human? A young and pregnant human?"
"Yes. Bastet is my bride, and I've every intention of marrying her." Damien responded, raising his eyebrow, but refusing to say anything more on the subject.
*'There's no easy way to explain that I'm actually pregnant with Damien's children, especially to mimics who don't have the in-depth knowledge of vampires like a lot of us do. It's actually kind of funny that Samantha, a human, knows more about vampires than a lot of mimics do.'*
"Recreant, how are you the leader of recreants, and why are you not crazy like other recreants?"
"Recreants regain their control, just like a fledgling vampire. The color of our eyes only symbolizes that we've no connection remaining to this world. As for my title, little Bastet is to thank for that." Sinclair responded, looking back at me with a slight smile.
"It's not all my doing. I just made Damien realize that recreants weren't what everyone thought they were, so he changed the vampire law about killing them. Then an army of recreants came to our house and pledged their loyalty to me, and asked Sinclair to be their leader." I responded softly, looking down at my lap, then felt the babies kicking softly like they were telling me to stop being so modest.
"Jesus Christ, you've got an entire army of recreants? Ha! Those elementals don't stand a chance!" Someone in the crowd yelled out, causing the entire room to erupt into laughter.
We continued to answer questions for another thirty minutes until it felt like I gave my entire life story to the mimics, and the same for Damien, Sinclair, and Sam. I was unbelievably thankful when Octavia called an end to the questioning and told them it was time to get home for dinner.
"Alright, go on home. This isn't a one-night appearance, as I will be training Bast to use her abilities. Go home, get some dinner, and some rest. Training will continue in the morning." Octavia said as she waved dismissingly at the crowd.
"Oh, thank god. I have to pee so bad." I said as I struggled to stand, trying to keep myself from wiggling from discomfort.
"Little Bastet, why didn't you just go?" Sinclair asked me disapprovingly.
"Every time I was starting to get up, someone asked me a question," I said with a shrug as Samantha helped me stand, then helped me into the bathroom.
