Chapter 32
Looked at Alexander's expression, Charlotte knew he definitely hadn't looked at what was inside the envelope yet.
So she strode out of the room and called for Lisa.
Soon, Lisa appeared hurriedly, wiping her hands: "Mrs. Forbes, what can I do for you?"
Charlotte asked,"The thing I asked you to give to Mr. Forbes the day I left—did you give it to him?"
Lisa thought for a moment, then nodded with certainty. "I gave it to Mr. Forbes, but he didn't open it and just tossed it aside. Later, I put it in the side room on the first floor."
Charlotte sighed quietly. "Then go get it now."
Lisa responded and left. After a moment, she returned with the envelope.
Charlotte took it, opened it to check, nodded. After dismissing Lisa,She handed it to Alexander. "Divorce papers. Sign them!"
Alexander's face darkened as he snatched it away.
Flipping through it, his expression grew even gloomier...
It was still the same divorce agreement he had once thrown on the floor, but now the envelope contained two additional items—a bank card and a ring.
So, before he ran into Charlotte at that restaurant in Vantage Mall, she had already left the supplementary card at home? And he had been so pleased with himself for deciding to freeze the card to force Charlotte to give in, never expecting that she didn't care about it anymore.
He gripped the bank card tighter and tighter!
Alexander felt his face hotter, as if someone had slapped him hard!
"It's just two pages, Mr. Forbes. How long do you need to look at it?" Charlotte couldn't wait any longer and urged him.
Alexander felt like his whole body was on fire. He slowly raised his head and stared hard at Charlotte. "Charlotte, are you trying to threaten me?"
Charlotte nodded. "If that's what you want to call it."
Seeing her indifferent expression, Alexander finally laughed in anger."Charlotte, do you think I wouldn’t dare refuse a divorce?"
"How many times have I told you? I promised your father back then that I would take good care of you and Sabrina... Why are you always so petty and can't accept Sabrina?"
Charlotte went along with it: "Right, I am petty, and I can't accept her."
"So stop arguing with me and just sign the agreement."
Alexander's hands began to tremble slightly—from anger.
"Fine, I'll sign! But don't expect me to give you Owen's custody."
Charlotte looked at him in surprise. "Didn’t youread it properly? I’m not asking for Owen’s custody."."
Seeing Alexander still holding the agreement without signing, Charlotte urge again. "Hurry up and sign. After you sign, I still need to pick up Philip."
Suppressing his inner turmoil, Alexander forced himself to read line by line.
By now, Sabrina had stopped insisting on leaving and instead stepped in as if to mediate: "Charlotte, stop making trouble. Alexander still loves you very much."
Charlotte remained cold.
Right now, she just wanted to cut ties with Alexander cleanly and had no time to deal with Sabrina.
Finally, Alexander looked up from the agreement, staring at Charlotte with apparent surprise. "You don't want anything?"
Charlottereplied calmly"Right, I don't want anything, but don't expect me to pay child support for Owen either."
Sabrina listened from the side, secretly excited.
Didn't Charlotte want anything? She really inherited that idiot Lynn's genes, valuing pride above everything else.
Once she left the Forbes Family, she would quickly learn that pride meant nothing compared to money.
At that moment, Alexander finally spoke in a hoarse voice. "I need to discuss this with Owen first."
Sabrina ground her teeth in frustration, wishing she could grab his hand and force him to sign.
Charlotte's mood wasn't much better either.
She hadn't expected Alexander to be such a good actor!
She had given up everything and was even being kind enough to let him be with Sabrina... Yet et he still hesitated at the crucial moment.
Taking a breath, she asked through clenched teeth, "Fine. What’s the latest you’ll give me an answer?"
Looking at the aggressive Charlotte, Alexander's expression grew colder. "Don't worry, I'll give you an answer in three days."
"Okay, I'll wait."
With that, Charlotte turned and left without looking back.
Only after Charlotte's figure completely disappeared did Alexander slam the divorce agreement heavily on the table.
Sabrina moved closer, studying his expression. "Alexander, Charlotte is just throwing a tantrum. You mustn't believe her."
Alexander looked at her sideways. "You're saying she's doing all this just to throw a tantrum?"
Sabrina nodded gently. "Exactly. Think about it—Charlotte has always valued Owen more than her own life. How could she bear to give up his custody?"
Alexander looked thoughtful. "You mean she doesn't really want a divorce but is using it to threaten me?"
Sabrina looked at him admiringly. "Alexander, you're amazing. You saw through Charlotte's intentions right away."
"Charlotte has always valued you and Owen. She would never truly leave."
Alexanderfrowned. "Isn't she afraid this might backfire?"
Sabrina smiled faintly. "No. Even if you sign, she can still back out before going to court to process it, and then win your forgiveness."
"So you absolutely can't give in at this point, or she'll have you under her thumb for the rest of your life."
Understanding dawned on Alexander’s face. "You're so perceptive! And here I've been in business for years, but couldn't see through her scheme."
Sabrina spokegently, "You can't blame yourself. Even I wouldn't have thought Charlotte would use such tactics on you and Owen."
Alexander slowly clenched his fist. "Charlotte has gone too far this time! If she really wants to play this game, I'll play along to the end! Let's see how she gets out of it!"
Having made up his mind, Alexander hurried back to the company, not taking the divorce agreement seriously at all.
After all, this was just Charlotte playing hard to get.
Watching his figure disappear completely, Sabrina slowly sat down. "Charlotte, congratulations. You'll soon get what you wish for."
Her light laughter echoed through the room.
Lisa, cleaning on the first floor, frowned when she heard it.
Sabrina was nothing compared to Charlotte.
Alexander was truly blind!
Although she didn't get her design drafts back, Charlotte didn't worry too much about it. After all, she had her mind.
In her view, as long as she had inspiration and ideas, she could create any design.
Moreover, now that she had left the Forbes Family and only needed to take care of the well-behaved and sensible Philip as agreed, she had much more time to think about designs than before...
So Charlotte ate when she should eat, slept when she should sleep, and apart from taking care of Philip, devoted almost all her time to designing new drafts.
That day, she went out for the whole afternoon looking for inspiration. Seeing it was almost time to pick up Philip from school, she headed straight to the kindergarten.
Standing by the kindergarten gate, a gust of wind blew by, and she couldn't help shivering.
The cold front came so suddenly. At noon, people were still wearing short sleeves everywhere, but now quite a few had put on sweaters and jackets.
Just as she was silently cursing the unpredictable weather, someone suddenly called from behind: "Charlotte!"
