Chapter 187
Jordan thought about it as he pressed the answer button.
After finishing the call, Jordan held his phone for a long time without putting it down.
Perhaps this was a great opportunity to get closer to Charlotte.
He had to seize every chance, otherwise Landon might beat him to it.
He'd already lost to Alexander once—he couldn't lose to Landon again.
The next day, Jordan arranged his schedule early and arrived at the kindergarten entrance ahead of time, waiting quietly.
As for whether he was waiting for Charlotte or Lily, only he knew for sure.
Before long, Charlotte finally appeared.
Jordan stood in a shadowy corner, not rushing out right away.
Charlotte wore a light green trench coat today—extremely simple in style, yet it made her fair skin stand out even more, her red lips striking. Even the parents passing by, both men and women, couldn't help sneaking several glances at her.
Jordan just watched quietly, watching this woman who had regained her spirit after divorce. For a moment, he seemed to see again that girl who used to sit quietly beside him.
It wasn't until the children filed out of the school in a long line that Jordan reluctantly looked away and slowly stepped out from the shadows.
"Jordan? You're picking up Lily too." When they met, a flash of pleasant surprise appeared in Charlotte's eyes.
Jordan nodded, and somehow blurted out: "My mom told me you got divorced?"
But before Charlotte could answer, he quickly realized his question was too forward.
So he hurriedly rubbed his hands and explained: "Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted to check on you."
Charlotte just raised her eyebrows casually: "It's fine. Everyone will find out sooner or later anyway."
Jordan was slightly surprised that Charlotte was so open about it, but it only confirmed his judgment even more.
The woman he had his eye on could indeed handle things well and let go easily.
Just as he was about to speak again, Charlotte had already turned to greet Philip and Lily who came running over.
Taking advantage of being a girl, Lily once again claimed Charlotte's embrace.
Her chubby little hands loosely circled Charlotte's neck as she said in a sweet childlike voice: "Charlotte, I haven't seen you in days. I missed you so much."
Holding the sweet and soft Lily, Charlotte couldn't help planting a big kiss on her: "I missed you too."
Watching this scene, Philip felt extremely jealous.
But he knew he couldn't say it directly, so he reached out and tugged Lily's little leg: "Lily, come down. You've gotten fatter lately—Charlotte will get tired holding you."
But Lily only hugged Charlotte tighter: "Charlotte, am I heavy?"
Looking at the hurt all over that chubby little face, Charlotte's heart had already melted: "Not heavy at all. Lily is the prettiest little princess."
Charlotte then gently reminded Philip: "Philip, you can't say things like that to girls."
As Charlotte said this, Lily also smiled at Philip, but with a hint of provocation in her eyes.
Philip glared back at Lily secretly and replied to Charlotte in a muffled voice: "Charlotte, I understand."
Being glared at, Lily couldn't help pouting.
But she quickly smiled again and nuzzled Charlotte's face: "Charlotte, can you marry Jordan? Then I could see you every day."
Charlotte nearly choked on her own saliva. "Lily, you can't say things like that."
"Besides, Jordan has many wonderful women around him who would be happy to marry him."
But Lily pouted her little pink lips: "But I don't like them."
Charlotte smiled and rubbed her little nose: "As long as Jordan likes them, that's what matters."
"But—"
Lily was about to say something indignantly when Jordan suddenly cut her off: "Lily, Charlotte's tired. Let me hold you."
Without waiting for a response, he took Lily from Charlotte.
After taking Lily, Jordan said sheepishly: "Kids these days—you never know what they're thinking."
"It's fine. Kids say the darndest things. Let's go."
Charlotte didn't take Lily's words to heart at all and pulled Philip along as she walked forward.
Taking the opportunity, Jordan leaned close to Lily's ear and whispered: "Lily, don't talk nonsense."
Lily wasn't happy about it.
He clearly liked Charlotte—why wouldn't he let her say so?
But Jordan gave her a warning look.
After warning Lily, Jordan quickened his pace to catch up with Charlotte, and the two walked side by side.
Perhaps to ease the earlier awkwardness, he asked tentatively: "Charlotte, do you remember Lucas from high school?"
"The Lucas who almost beat Calvin to death back then?" Charlotte tried hard to recall.
Jordan nodded: "Yes, that's him."
"My sister married his cousin, and later I found out he also studied abroad—in the same city as me, actually. So we've kept in touch."
"He called me last night and said he came back to the country a few days ago. He wants to get together with old high school classmates. Oh, and he specifically mentioned you and asked me to invite you to the gathering."
Charlotte looked incredulous: "He actually remembers me?"
No wonder Charlotte thought this way.
After all, Lucas used to be quite the presence at school, while she had always been quiet and didn't want to draw attention to herself.
But Jordan nodded with certainty: "He remembers you. When we were abroad, he even told me that if it hadn't been for you back then, Calvin probably would have died there."
Charlotte was a bit speechless.
That was definitely something Lucas would say.
She remembered very clearly that back then Lucas and Calvin couldn't stand each other and fought fiercely at school!
Seeming to see through her concerns, Jordan quickly added: "Don't worry, Lucas is very different from how he used to be."
"Plus, he also invited Jenna."
Jordan wouldn't forget that Charlotte's best friend was Jenna.
Sure enough, after hearing Jenna's name, Charlotte's expression clearly softened.
