Too Many chances

Too Many chances
Lucas's point of view

That's it! I've given him too many chances, and now I'm simply going to kill him and leave him to die.
There's no way I'm going to spare him after trying to harm Sophie not once but twice. Even though this time around it was my fault.
I shouldn't have let her out of my sight knowing he was a free man and he might try something to harm her.
At this point, the only choice I had was to keep her with me no matter what happens. I won't let her be harmed, especially because of Liam.
I parked my car a few steps away from where Sophie had parked the car. Liam forced her out of the car and started dragging her through the forest.
Tall trees towered over me as I ran following Liam and Sophie's footsteps. I let out a sigh of relief as I finally caught up with them. Sophie was crying as Liam stood before her, pointing a gun at her. Lifting my hand, which clenched the gun, I pressed my thumb over the gun and pointed it right at him from behind.
Without giving him a chance to react, I released the bullet, and it shot him in the back. His body stumbled as he fell to the ground, and Sophie covered her mouth, screaming even louder in the silent forest.
I rushed over to her, walking past Liam who was lying on the ground, painting the grass red with his blood. "You are going to regret this, Lucas," he said, his voice laced with agony.
But right now, his pain was none of my business, Sophie was. As I reached where she stood, she wrapped her arms around me as she burst into sobs at the sight of Liam’s body on the ground.
I scooped her in my arms and turned to Liam. "Don't worry, you won't die so soon. If you are lucky and someone comes by here, you might survive, and if you are unlucky, then may your soul rest in peace, brother." My voice dripped with sarcasm. Without waiting for his reply, I began making my way back to where I'd left my car.
Sophie collapsed into my arms, her eyes now shut. I'm sure she was so shocked by everything that she fainted. Placing her in the backseat of my car, I walked around to the driver's seat, got inside the car, and drove off.
~~
There hasn't been any news of Liam since that day, and I was glad that he must have died there. I didn't even bother myself with sending my men to check on him.
He was an asshole, and that's exactly how he deserved to die, like a street dog with no dignity or self-respect, not that he had any when he was still alive.
Sophie has been in silent mode since that day, and I didn't try to bother her or get close to her. I'd rather watch her from afar than get close to her.
I won't give myself false hope of something that can never be.
The door to my office swung open, and Mason burst into the room. He placed a tablet in front of me.
"Lucas, your father is taking over the second seat in the Red House."
My eyes widened at Mason's words. I grabbed the tablet from the table, and I felt my insides twisting with dread at the latest news.
Fuck that old man! I shouldn't have let him out. I should have kept him in there for the rest of his pathetic life, but because of Sophie, I couldn't keep on locking him in that room, and now he shamelessly showed me he didn't deserve it.
"That's not all."
I lifted my head from the tablet to Mason.
"Just say the damn words!"
I clenched my jaw, rage rushed through my blood.
"Liam was saved by Marco's brother, and they sent a war declaration later. Either you give up Sophie and your chair, or they are going to kill her."
My pulse raced with terror from Mason's words. I wasn't scared of them even a bit, but I can't protect Sophie from them. I can't do it, no matter how powerful I am. She's not used to this kind of life.
"Call an emergency meeting at the Red House, and everyone has to be there,"
I muttered under my gritted teeth. If they want a war, then I'm giving them exactly that, but there's no way I'm going to give up on Sophie. I'd rather die than let her be with Liam or anyone else.
"What are you planning to do? Don't tell me you are going to choose her over your position, Lucas?"
Mason's voice is laced with disbelief, and when I didn't say anything, his eyes went wide. But my decision was final, and I'm not going to go back on my word.
"Call the meeting, Mason, and it should be in an hour."
I was now ordering him as his boss, not as his friend. I'm not going to lose Sophie for anything, and that's it.
