I want you.

I want you.
Sophie's Point of View

This is exactly what I wanted - getting rid of him and living my life away from him and his brother Liam, so why am I not happy?
Why am I crying right now, and why do I feel like I want to rush into his warm embrace and hide my head in his firm chest? The more I try to understand this emotion, the more a sharp pang cuts through my chest. Just thinking about him walking away from me is unbearable.

“What if I had changed my mind?” My chest tightens at my words. I don't even know what I'm saying, but I don't want to watch him walk away from me. “What if I want to be with a monster like you?”

I'm practically begging him. I should be ashamed of myself. I should have walked away, but I couldn't. There's this stupid part of me that is forcing me to say all these stupid words. Lucas stilled completely. His gaze flickers with different emotions I can't understand, and right now, I don't want to understand them. I want him. I must have lost my mind.

“Sophie, you don't know what you are saying. Please go home and rest.” He is stunned by my words, but I don't want to go home and leave him behind. I don't know what came over me, and I'm not even going to fight it.

“Was everything you said a lie?”
I walk to him, standing so close that I can hear the sound of his racing heartbeat, and our gaze meets.

“I know I've lost my mind for saying all this, but I can't help it, okay? For the past week, you were the only thing on my mind. I tried - I tried to get you out of my system, but I can't, okay?”

Without uttering a word, Lucas turns and walks away, leaving me behind.

I snap out of my daze as Lucas's words finally sink in, and I realize I've been imagining the whole thing. Obviously, that would be his reaction if I were to tell him what is happening in my head. He would walk away without uttering a word and leave me all alone again, and I'd cry my heart out.

“Sophie, I swear to be with you all I want, but I can't ruin your life. You don't deserve this kind of life. I want you to be happy.”

I suck in a sharp breath, trying to keep my emotions under control. I don't know why I'm crying. I hate the fact that I might be crying because of him, and it's all driving me to the brink of madness.

Without uttering a word, I turn and begin going to my car.
I should have known that no one comes and stays permanently in my life. They all come and make me feel like they'd stay forever, and when I get comfortable with their presence, they leave me broken, and I'm left alone, picking up the pieces and putting them together. Maybe this is for the better.

Getting inside my car, I close the door and rest my head on the steering wheel. The sobs I've been trying to control burst free, echoing loudly in my car. Warm, raw tears stream down my face, drenching my top.

“If you are done crying, start the car and drive!”

I freeze at the sound of Liam’s voice and the gun pressed against my back.

“What do you think you are doing?”

I ask through clenched teeth. I have enough issues to deal with, and I have no energy to deal with him or his nonsense.

“At the beginning, I wanted to take everything from you and leave you in the streets, but now that my brother has fallen for you, I'm going to kill you and take everything from you.”

Liam’s voice is void of any emotion.

“I wish I had magic powers to erase your existence from my life. You are really becoming a pain in the ass.”

I'm trying to act as brave as I can, but my heart is banging so hard against my chest, fear clawing at my skin. Dying seems like the only solution I have, but not in his hands. I don't want this loser to kill me.

“Drive this damn car before I shoot you right now!”

He says impatiently.

I let out a sigh before I started the engine and drove off. Relief washes over me as I see Lucas's car following behind me through the mirror, but I don't dare make it obvious. He must have seen him or something.

“Where am I going?”

I ask, trying hard to pull myself together. One thing is for sure, Liam has lost his mind, and if I do something stupid, he won't think twice before killing me in this car. I have to play my cards wisely.

“I will tell you to stop once we reach our destination.”

His cold voice slices through the tense air.

“So does bullying me like this make you happy? I've never done anything to offend you or your family. You are the one who has offended me, yet you still act like a victim in this whole thing. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?”

Maybe if he gives me some sort of explanation, I'd find closure. Maybe I might find it in my heart to forgive and forget about all the bad things he has done to me.

Liam lets out a scoff, and my grip around the steering wheel tightens.

“Sophie, you are not as special as you think you are. You were just an easy target, and I couldn't let the opportunity of scamming you pass by. But then my brother ruined everything, and now you are going to pay.”

I can't help but chuckle at his words. What a hopeless fellow. “I really pity you, Liam. Maybe God will have mercy on your pathetic life.”

I can't believe people like him still exist. He's the one who hurt me, and he still wants revenge. For what exactly, for his failed mission?
