Chapter 20 CHAPTER 20

Chapter 20 CHAPTER 20
SABRINA

Penny dropped the tray on the table and served me the juice. She is hurt badly and my heart aches, seeing her in this vulnerable state. I never think about her because all my thoughts are on Harry.

I folded my hands together on my lap and looked at her, my throat hurt badly from stopping myself from crying

“I am sorry for what happened to you,” I told her and she smiled..

Even that smile was filled with sorrow. No matter how much she hid it, I could see it.

“No. It's not your fault Miss Sabrina.” Penny said but my heart…

It…it aches so bad.

“So, how are you coping here?” I asked Head Maid Penelope.

I can no longer call her with the same title so I will stick to her nickname for now.

“I was told to only serve you and no one else. The Alpha Prince made it possible.” Penny revealed and that was not actually how I viewed Vincent. I thought he didn't care after all.

But….

“Wow”, I said and continued.

“ I didn't even know he was going to do this. He didn't inform me and yet he actually did bring you here. I am so glad to see you again Penny.” I said expressing how I actually felt.

It's good to actually see someone I could rely on because everyone here doesn't even relate to me. Penny is like a mother to me which is why I will always forgive her for whatever she might have done to me. She actually loves me compared to anyone and all she did was obey orders because she doesn't want me to end up in danger.

“Princess, I should be the one saying that,” Penny said.

“I am actually glad that you came across him. If I had known that he was the Alpha Prince of the Crescent Claw Pack, I would have been nicer to him.” She said with a nervous smile and I shook my head.

“You don't have to be Penny. He is a murderer.” I told her and sighed.

His handsome face still haunts me in my dreams, and each time I try to stay away from him, Zara will always act up. She has been weak lately and I wonder if it's because I am trying to reject the bond.

“I know but I am sorry to say the Alpha king actually deserves it because of how he treated you,” Penny said and quickly went to her knees.

My mouth fell open in shock but I closed it back. The truth hurts, but I only wish it were someone else and not Vincent.

If he had abducted me, it would have been different.

And you know deep down it's a lie. You won't go with him. Zara said and I shut my eyes.

“I deserve punishment, princess, but I want you to be happy”, Penny said, and I don't really know how to react right now.

“Who told you I am not happy Penny?” I asked her, trying to hide my shaking hands behind me.

“The guard relayed the message to me. He told me to make sure you are happy.” Penny said and her eyes watered with tears.

“You have never been happy, Princess, and the only time you smile and laugh is when you are with him,” Penny revealed, and my lips quivered.

“Wha…What?” I asked her in shock.

“Everyone could see that Princess, and maybe that is part of the reason the king married you off early,” Penny said, and I wish I could actually pull her closer for a hug.

“If being by his side will make you happy, then I will be happy to serve you for the rest of my life,” Penny said, and the tears dropped down, trailing down her cheeks.

I am not supposed to feel emotional but I did. I got weak seeing how much she knew about me. She has been watching me and I wonder how much pain she must have endured, watching me grow that way

My heart felt heavy but I didn't want her to see me cry. I would only be proving her right that I am indeed not happy.

“Penny,” I called her name softly and she quickly wiped the tears off her face with the back of her hand.

“Yes, princess,” Penny said and I stood up.

I walked towards the window, looking outside and my gaze became blurry with tears.

“You can just go now. I want to think for a few minutes.” I said and Penny stood up and made her way outside.

When I heard the door shut, I got on my knees and the tears poured down softly.

“I will rewrite my Fate Mother. If he is going to marry me then I will make him fall in love with me. If Revenge doesn't work I am sure this will work.” I said and got rid of my tears.

I heard a knock again and I wonder if Penny has come back to the room.

I walked to the door and unlocked it. “Penny, I said you should…” My voice trailed off when I saw another maid at the door.

“Miss Sabrina, Lady Soren is in the dining room and she invites you to the room for a meal,” the maid said, and I wonder if it's actually mandatory that I need to show up because right now, I am not hungry.

However, this is the first time she has invited me for a meal, so I will just go this time. If she wants to make the same request next time, I can just decline.

“Tell her I will be down shortly,” I said and the maid bowed her head.

“Alright, ma’am,” she said and hurried away.

I took the band and tied my hair into a bun. I take one last look at myself in the mirror before making my way outside.

I descended the stairs and went to the sitting room. She sat elegantly on the chair with an iPad in her hand. She is actually a pretty woman and I can't deny that.

What I don't understand is why she chose to eat alone with me.

“Welcome Sabrina. We don't need to be too formal with each other right?” She asked, and I don't really see anything bad in calling her by her name, too, so I agree.

“Yes,” I replied and sat down.

“Let's eat first. I actually wanted to ask you some questions." Soren said, with her chin resting on her hand. She already dropped the iPad on the table.

"I heard you are Vincent's fated mate.” She said, and it felt as if she was deliberately trying to pick a fight with me, but I can't jump to a conclusion yet.

“I thought everyone was aware of that. I am his fated mate.” I said and placed my hand on the table confidently.

“Don't quote me wrong Sabrina. I only said I heard. I have seen you but I might not really know that you are his Fated mate.” Soren said but I know she is trying to humiliate him.

“Why would he bring me here if I am not his fated mate? I am the daughter of the rival Pack. Why would he bring me here if it's not because of that?” I asked Soren and she picked up the fork and knife to cut the meat.

“Maybe he brought you in as a prisoner,” Soren said and chewed the meat slowly. I might not know it at first but now it's clear that she is a bitch.

“What?” I asked and she quickly picked up the hanky to wipe the corners of her mouth.

“Oh sorry. I am not supposed to say that but I heard about your sham marriage.” She said with disdain and my eyes widened.

“Dear, come on. I am not saying this because I want you to feel bad but it's just the truth. Did he tell you that he was betrothed to someone else?” she asked me but the truth is, I am not aware.

Vincent didn't mention it or should I say we never had any good conversation.

“I guess you aren't aware.” She said and pushed the food aside, crossing her legs over another.

“Vincent is betrothed to the princess of another Pack, which I am not going to mention. And they have been betrothed to each other for six years.” Soren added and I listened to every word she said.

“The only condition given to Vincent to annul the marriage is if he found out who his Fated mate is before the marriage. He is trying to escape that by using you” Soren concluded and nodded.

“Then why are you coming to me instead of Vincent?” I asked her and colour drained from her face.

“Because I know your intentions aren't good. He killed your only father so tell me why you will suddenly agree to marry a man like that.” Soren said and I must say she is actually smart and intelligent.

“If your motive is to destroy him, I will advise you to escape now. That guy is not your loving bodyguard who only protects you. He has a lot to protect and if you try anything funny, you won't escape.” Soren said, more of a warning and I interpreted her words correctly.

“Are you in love with him or something? I thought you were the Alpha king's woman? Is the king aware of what you are doing?” I asked Soren and and she stood up.

Before I could come up with what she was up to, she drew my chair closer and her palm struck my face.

“How dare you talk to me that way?” she asked, her eyes red, fist balled to her side.

“And you will pay dearly for touching what is mine.” I heard the echoing footsteps of Vincent, his deep baritone voice filled with threat and I could almost taste it. The eerie feeling that oozes from him and yet, I only want him to draw me closer.

To see what was beyond the abyss.

His addictive smell filled the room and I inhaled deeply like an asthma patient.

“Vincent,” Soren said with shock on her face. Her eyes darted around the room, her pupils dilating.

Vincent came to my side and wrapped his hand around my shoulder.

“I am not going to hit you, Soren but she is going to do it.” He declared in her authoritative voice.

“What?” She exclaimed. “I am your father's wife, you can't tell her to hurt me.”

“Come on Soren. We both know you haven't given him a child. Why would he care much about your well-being?” Vincent said and I looked at him with confusion dancing in my eyes.

His expression, his aura. He seems different.

“Slap her back, then we can talk about what led to the fight,” Vincent told me and I shook my head.

“Soren is just like a mother to him so I can't hit her. I know what he did is wrong but hitting her is not the best way to punish her,” I said in a high-pitched voice, my chest rising and falling in sync.

“Petal”, Vincent called me with that annoying nickname but strangely, my very self loved the name.

“Slap her,” Vincent instructed me but I refused to take a step forward.

“I can't do it. She is just like a mother to you.” I said, and Vincent held around my shoulder, tightened. If he continues, I am afraid my bone is going to break.

Vincent let me go and I turned back to see him rolling up the sleeve of his shirt.
