Chapter 19 CHAPTER 19
Chapter 19 CHAPTER 19
SABRINA
I wasn't expecting it to be a huge place with the chairs arranged like a football court, and there were actually people sitting down watching how the race was going.
Vincent sat with the Alpha Kings in the front row, and there was a big screen showing how each person stood beside the bike they would be racing. I already know how the rules work. If they will be using bikes, it is going to be a fierce battle and overtaking is allowed.
“You can all make your bet now on who you think is going to win. Each person is only allowed to vote for one team.” The judge instructs everyone.
There were seven bikes in total, which means seven Packs will be competing with each other in total. The Alphas were the first to make their bet before the people's privilege to come began to make their own bet.
The referee gave the instructions and they adhered immediately. The competitors get on the bike and kick-start the engine.
I make sure I am hiding behind Finn, and from where we are, we can see what is going on.
“I doubt they are going to bet that much. We all know who is going to win.” I said without even knowing but the man beside me heard.
“No one from our Pack is competing now. They wouldn't bet that much yet.” Finn replied to me.
“Why is that?” I asked him, even though I wasn't planning to strike up a conversation at first.
“Because of Vincent. He has not been in the Pack for the past four years so they all believed that he is actually a bit weak.” Finn explained and continued
“He is going to compete at the end, and he needs to win to set a boundary and regain the power he once wielded. He has to do it himself,” Finn told me, and I don't know how I somehow relate it to my own story.
“I can see that this is going to be much more interesting than”, I replied, and in the next minute, a bullet was fired into the sky.
The competitors moved the bike and the crowd cheered. I looked at the wide screen the moment they began to move.
Everyone was full of anticipation. I don't exactly know what was going on but the guy with number 2 on the back of his shirt was actually faster than all of them. He managed to dodge their attack and also knock out three players when they finished the first round.
They moved again and this time, they could see clearly that the winner was the number 2.
The guy is actually pretty good, and he seems well-trained compared to them all. The crowd cheered when the number 2 tag at the back of his polo emerged as the winner.
“Though this actually belongs to Vincent, the Alpha also wished to have this place for themselves because of how successful it is,” Finn informed me, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Why tell me so much information?” I asked him and he smiled at me.
“I wanted to let you know that even though he pretended to be your bodyguard, the only woman who was able to stir his heart is…”
“Jeez. He is going to race with the first guy and to make it fair, they actually added another two men.” Finn said without finishing the first statement he said the other time.
“Three against one?” I asked him, flowing with the conversation. I saw Vincent stand up and get rid of his suit jacket. He walked down to the other competitors. There was actually not a single display of emotion on his face.
“Yes. Because they believed he was far, far stronger,” Finn replied, and my eyes were glued on Vincent.
The referee explained the rules and I wasn't surprised to see that they don't actually want anything to favour Vincent. And there are no fucking rules here.
The shot was fired and the race began. The bike moved forward like a rocket.
I leaned my back against the chair, my heart racing as the roar of engines filled the air. The sun beat down on the dusty track, and the smell of dust hung thick in the air.
Finn looked at me and I smiled. I think that's just one of his signs to let me know that Vincent will still be fine. However, I needed him alive to pay for his sins so he has to survive this
Vincent led early, but on the third lap, the dark-haired guy who had won earlier rode his bike past like a blur. The crowd roared.
The third guy tried to pass Vincent on the tight, but he almost fell. He managed to regain the balance but Vincent just sped up.
The final lap. Vincent was 2 seconds up, but the dark-haired, tall guy was closing in. The second guy grazed Vincent's rear. The crowd gasped in horror, but Vincent didn't even flinch, even with the fact that they would be wearing helmets.
Vincent didn't cause any accidents but he didn't give up either. Vincent leaned hard left, his knee scraped the ground, and, Zoo. He crossed the finish line just seconds ahead.
The moment he emerged as the winner the people roared with delight. I stood up from my seat just like and let out a scream.
Vincent's eyes caught mine when he got rid of the helmet. The Alpha king looked displeased but they didn't dare object.
The thrill still pulsed in my veins. Vincent climbed the podium, his bike’s engine purring.
The crowd cheered again, and I stopped myself from joining because it's not in my place to react that way.
“I told you he is going to win. I guess now, we have fewer problems to deal with,” Finn told me and stood up from the seat.
"Can I go back to the car?" I asked, Finn.
"Yes, I'll escort you outside." He said, and I quickly objected.
"I think I want to go alone today."
I chose to go to the car alone, I am nervous because I was cheering for Vincent. Two, I am famished. I should have accepted the food, I know that but I just proved to be stubborn to him. All I need to do is create a draft outlining how I plan to take my revenge on Vincent.
I ate the food slowly, looking at the entrance to see if he was already coming, but he was not. When I was done eating, a thought suddenly surfaced in my mind.
There was a small knock on the car door and I quickly hid the bag beside my leg. Vincent came inside, followed by Finn, who looked at me through the rear mirror.
You later ate the food.” Vincent said and I gritted my teeth together
Does he really have to mention that for me to know he is aware? It is not as if I have any ounce of shame left in me so I decided to give him a reply.
“I thought it was for me. Is it not?” I asked him and he rubbed his temples, his eyes on me.
Before I could ask him what he was looking at, he extended his hand towards my face and I froze. He took something from the corner of my mouth. I wasn't going to pay much attention since it's just crumbs but not until I saw Vincent put the finger into his mouth and chew the crumbs.
“I know the food belongs to you but I remember you clearly rejected it,” Vincent replied and rested his head on the back seat, looking at me with the expression that made me weak in my knees.
“He is not the romantic type!” I keep telling myself but everything else screams at me. He is no gentleman.
“And now I should just give it back to you?” I asked him, trying to ignore what he did just now.
My conclusion is that he must have done that to a lot of girls, so there is no special thing to it.
He doesn't have a girlfriend though. I don't think he is a womaniser either. Zara said and I clenched my hands against my lap.
She always defends him.
“You don't have to return the food,” Vincent said and I looked elsewhere. The cat hasn't moved an inch yet.
“Is there any place you would love to go to? I saw you cheering me on back there or did I see it wrong?” Vincent inquired from me.
My plan was to give him a vague reply but I chose not to.
“You made a mistake because there is no way I am going to cheer you on,” I interjected.
“Hmm. It's fine. So, is there any place you have in mind to visit?” He asked me and I wonder when he is going to actually instruct Finn to start driving.
“I would love to be in my room for now,” I answered.
“ Okay. Take the car back to the Pack and make sure Sabrina is given everything she needs.” Vincent said and I looked at him.
“Alright, Vincent. Take care of yourself.” Finn said and Vincent pulled the door open.
“Is it a prank?” I asked no one in particular.
“No,” Finn replied and I chuckled.
“You mean he is really angry because of the little thing I said?” I asked Finn and he just smirked.
“That is not the case but it might be part of it too,” Finn said and added.
“He still needs to address the Alpha kings,” Finn said and I wish I knew what that truly meant because Vincent already won.
“Alright,” I said, and Finn kick-started the engine.
“He is afraid that some of them will recognise you and run a background check on you,” Finn said and I nodded, watching Vincent back as he walked away.
“Okay. Thanks for informing me.” I said but I have a feeling that Vincent doesn't care about that.
We eventually arrived at the Pack and Finn told me to go inside. I climbed the stairs and got upstairs. I kind of feel like drinking wine or juice. Either of the two is going to work and maybe I will find a good sleep.
I saw the maid downstairs and called for her. She came up immediately and bowed her head with a greeting.
“Can you get me some wine or juice?” I asked and she raised her head.
“I will get it ready ma’am,” she said and hurried away.
I got inside my room and took off the baseball cap Finn gave me. I sighed deeply, looking at my reflection before making my way towards the door.
I turned the doorknob and stepped outside only to meet the maid outside.
“You can drop it inside. I will take it when I am back.” I said but the maid didn't bulge. She didn't move an inch.
“Hello. Can you hear me? Is everything okay with you?” I asked, trying to know why she was mute.
“Miss Sabrina”, I heard the shaky voice, and the familiarity is something I can't explain.
Am I hallucinating right now?
She raised her head and my mouth hung open in shock. It's head maid Penelope.
“Penny”, I called her with her pet name, and she nodded her head.
“It's me, Miss Sabrina,” she repeated and I took a step forward. The baseball cap fell from my hand.
“How did you get here? What are you doing here? Is this even real?” I asked and touched her cheek.
“I was taken back here by one of the guards.” Head maid Penelope said and a tear escaped my eyes. I know she is not a terrible person. Father made her that way and it wasn't her way to treat me badly
I can't believe this. I never expected Vincent to do something like this for me.
Wait. Is he trying to let me forgive him for what he did?
“But… what happened to your face?” I asked her, seeing all the bruises.
“Tell me. Did he hit you? Calhoun?” I asked, my throat choked with tears.
“You don't have to worry about me, Miss Sabrina. I have been assigned to be your personal maid.” Penny revealed and I can see she is indeed right. She was the one who brought me the wine with a glass cup.
“Please come in. We need to talk.” I said and ushered her in.
