Chapter 67
After saying this, Alexander took the menu from Chris's hand and casually glanced at it, "This restaurant is really not that great. They don't even have a single decent bottle of red wine."
Lila felt somewhat helpless.
Still wanting to drink wine, and he's not even the one paying for the meal.
In the end, Alexander reluctantly pointed at the most expensive wine on the menu, "This one then, just something to get by with."
Lila was annoyed inside.
Alexander was being so disrespectful, practically making her lose face in front of Chris.
But she couldn't get angry, so she could only hold it in.
Chris was pretty good-tempered and smiled, "I was originally planning to have dinner with Lila, so I didn't plan on drinking. I just focused on finding a restaurant with good food. Please bear with it, and another day when there's a chance, I'll have Lila arrange for me to treat you to drinks."
Alexander looked at him impassively.
Who does he think he is, trying to make arrangements for Mrs. Sinclair?
This sharp look made Chris wonder where he had said something wrong.
During the awkward standoff, Alexander suddenly smiled, "I'm afraid Mr. Cavill will be disappointed. I'm very busy and don't have time to go out drinking with people I'm not familiar with."
"That's okay, there's still plenty of time in the future to get to know each other." Chris said.
Lila didn't want them to keep talking, so she simply looked at Chris and changed the subject, "Chris, I heard you went abroad after high school. When did you come back?"
Chris smiled, "I didn't expect you to be so interested in me."
Hearing this, Lila instantly felt extremely embarrassed.
She nervously picked up the water beside her and took a sip, "I was just asking casually."
Chris noticed her flustered drinking and thought she was being shy, so he deliberately steered the conversation back to their school days, "I heard that you really liked me in high school?"
This sentence successfully caught the attention of Alexander, who had been silent.
He turned his head to look at Lila.
Lila also instinctively glanced at her husband in name only, surprise and confusion evident in her eyes.
But she quickly looked back at Chris, "Who told you that?"
"Don't be nervous, I'm just asking casually."
"I'm not nervous. High school was so long ago. We were young then and didn't really understand what it meant to like someone."
After saying this, she continued drinking water.
Chris nodded in agreement, "True. Someone mentioned it to me and it reminded me - in high school, I think I noticed several times that you were following behind me, but you'd hurriedly turn around when I saw you. Those weren't coincidences, were they?"
Alexander listened quietly, a hint of interest flickering in his blue eyes.
Lila was very nervous.
She felt like she was going to die.
Why was he suddenly talking about all this when there was another person present?
Lila didn't know how to answer, so she just kept drinking water and playing dead.
Chris saw that she had drunk more than half of her water and picked up the pitcher to refill her glass.
"Thank you," she said quietly.
The waiter came over to serve the food at that moment, and Lila finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After the dishes were served, the waiter left.
Chris looked at Lila and was about to say something when Lila quickly spoke first, "Let's eat first. It tastes better when it's hot."
"Okay, eat more. The food here is really good."
"Mm."
Lila picked up her chopsticks and was about to reach for some food when Alexander coldly looked at her and spoke in a commanding tone, "Pour me a glass of wine."
Lila's movements froze. She looked at him, humiliation in her eyes.
She tried to convince herself that he was her boss, and pouring wine for her boss was normal, then reluctantly picked up the bottle.
