Chapter 68

Chapter 68

But no matter how hard Lila tried, she couldn't get the wine bottle open.

She had never drunk red wine before and had no idea how to open it. She fumbled with the corkscrew the waiter had left nearby, but with no experience, she didn't even know if she was doing it right.

Lila felt so embarrassed that she was like a cat on a hot tin roof.

"Let me." Chris's warm, steady voice rang out, and he thoughtfully took the bottle from her hands.

Lila looked at him gratefully. "Thank you."

He opened the bottle and was about to pour wine for Alexander when he heard him say, "Let Lila pour it."

Chris paused, looking at Lila with surprise, as if to say "What's wrong with your boss?"

Lila's face darkened, and she clenched her teeth in anger.

Even so, to maintain her dignity in front of Chris, she silently took the bottle from Chris and poured Alexander a glass of wine.

After pouring, she looked at Chris. "Should I pour you some too?"

"I can do it myself." With that, Chris took the bottle.

Lila said nothing.

Chris poured himself some wine, then looked at Lila. "Do you want some?"

"She doesn't drink." It was Alexander who responded.

Though surprised, Chris looked at Lila and asked again, "Want to try some?"

"No thanks. I have to drive back to the office later. Can't drink and drive."

"You bought a car?"

Lila shook her head and didn't hide it. "No, my current job is as a driver."

Hearing this, Chris glanced at Alexander, seeming to understand something. "Okay, then I won't drink either. I drove here, can't drink and drive either."

"Mm, let's eat."

"Okay."

Lila kept her head down and ate.

With Alexander present, she didn't ask Chris what important matter he wanted to discuss with her.

However, Chris seemed hesitant.

Halfway through the meal, he still looked at Lila. "By the way Lila, the person who answered your phone last night, is he your boyfriend?"

She first paused in her eating, then glanced at Alexander from the corner of her eye, before finally saying, "No."

Hearing this, Alexander shot her a cold look.

Some deep displeasure hidden beneath his expression began stirring restlessly, though it was unclear when it had started.

Chris seemed quite satisfied with this answer and smiled. "I thought you got a boyfriend right after graduating from college."

Lila's mouth twitched, but she said nothing.

Chris took a sip of water, and when he looked at her, his eyes carried a hint of testing and caution. "Would you mind telling me what kind of guy you like?"

Alexander suddenly slammed his utensils on the table.

Lila, who was already on edge, was startled by the noise.

Chris immediately looked at Alexander.

Alexander curved his lips. "I'm full. You two keep eating, no rush."

Chris nodded and turned his attention back to Lila. "The type of guy you like—can we talk about it?"

Lila smiled at him.

For whatever reason, she rattled off a long list of qualities she liked in guys, "I like guys with good tempers and stable personalities. I like guys with good character and high emotional intelligence who know how to respect people. I like guys who are good to me, who will spoil me and take care of me. He doesn't need to have great career achievements or make a lot of money. As long as when he's with me, he puts me first and always prioritizes my feelings above everything else, that's enough."
