Chapter 262
Chapter 262
For some reason, whenever Grandma mentioned Alexander by using the words "my grandson" instead of using his name, Lila always sensed a subtle hint of reproach in her voice.
But that couldn't be right, could it?
After all, Alexander was Grandma's own grandson. She wouldn't be too hard on her grandson.
Lila quickly snapped back to the present and flashed a bright smile at Gaia. "Grandma, he's already hired a housekeeper from a service company. I don't have to cook after work anymore."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
A warm smile instantly lit up Gaia's face, and her eyes sparkled with genuine delight. She glanced at Alexander as he walked over and said meaningfully, "Well, that's not easy. My grandson has finally learned to care for people. As his grandmother, I'm truly so happy."
Alexander looked at the joyful smile on Gaia's face and scoffed lightly, "Grandma, don't we deserve to sit down and talk with you?"
Gaia shot him a sharp glare. "What kind of thing is that to say?"
After speaking, she gently pulled Lila down onto the sofa and asked about her recent situation with obvious concern. "Lila, is being a driver tiring? Do you need that boy to get you a different job?"
"No need, Grandma. Being a driver is quite good. During work hours, I can read books in the break room. It feels very relaxing."
"That's good!"
Arabella felt a bit uncomfortable seeing Grandma being so warm and more affectionate to Lila than to her, her own granddaughter. She seized the chance while they were talking to interject, "Grandma, do you really like sister-in-law that much? I'm your real granddaughter, and after all these years, I've never seen you this enthusiastic with me."
"How am I not enthusiastic with you?"
"You're not enthusiastic at all. It's like I'm not even your real granddaughter. You won't even give me shares in the Sinclair Group, and my allowance isn't even enough."
Gaia had initially responded to her casually.
But when she heard her mention shares in the Sinclair Group, her expression immediately became serious. She looked at her and said, "Your dad has shares. If you need allowance money, you should ask him. What are you complaining to me about? I'm your grandmother, not your mother. Why should I manage your allowance?"
"You're only his grandmother too, but you still manage everything for him."
"What do I manage for him? I only managed his marriage. When you have a boyfriend, bring him to meet me too, and I promise I'll help you check him out properly."
Arabella saw that her Grandmother's attitude when talking to her was completely different from when talking to Lila. She pouted and said with dissatisfaction, "Fine, I got it."
Gaia withdrew her gaze from her face and looked at Alexander. "Grandson, come upstairs with me. I have something to ask you."
Arabella stood up, walked over to Lila's side, pulled her up from the sofa, and linked arms with her while standing beside Gaia. "Grandma, no need to go upstairs. I'll go outside with sister-in-law now to see if Isadora has arrived. You can talk with my brother here."
Without waiting for Gaia to respond, Arabella turned to Lila with a sweet smile. "Sister-in-law, shall we go?"
Lila's mouth twitched slightly.
Things had reached this point, so even though she didn't really want want to go,refusing now would only make things awkward. She nodded and said, "No problem, let's go."
After the two of them left, the smile on Gaia's face gradually faded away. She glanced at Alexander and asked directly, "How are things going with the child?"
"Still preparing."
"Preparing? A month of the year has already passed. If you want Lila to give birth to a child during the marriage, you must get her pregnant next month. And you're still preparing? How long are you going to keep preparing? Or are you saying you don't plan to divorce after the year is up?"
Alexander frowned. "She's not willing. What can I do? Rape her?"
Hearing him say "rape," Gaia remained unfazed and snorted coldly. "Don't think I don't know you've been looking for Celeste in private. Let me tell you, if she could be found by you, she wouldn't have disappeared for two years without a trace!"
Alexander scoffed lightly, "Well, I have to thank Grandma for hiding her so well, don't I?"
Gaia's expression changed slightly.
So after all this time, he still thought she was the one who hid Celeste away?
